This is not really a 4 Runner. The sister is actually Toyota LC Prado. It looks almost the same except the badge and the front, of course. So this car is actually a luxury version of Land Cruiser Jr.
The maid must've had one hell of a party last night and didn't invite me? This is the closest thing to the perfect SUV even if it has some flaws. Great Review!
Great review. Strangely for the same economy and power, I drive a larger version, albeit older, an LX 470, 2003. Great car! Bottom line for me is that offroading is enjoyable and smooth and above all, quiet. Was the GX like that too?
Solid review, and makes me feel happy I went for this instead of another 4 Runner! I just bought a 2019 GX460 Luxury after someone took my 2006 LX470 out of commission after 10 wonderful years of companionship. Sadly, I couldn't afford another LX but think this GX Luxury will do everything I need it to for much less $$!
Great review! I just purchased a 2019 Lexus GX460 Luxury and my decision was influenced by your video! Thank you! I’m up in Vegas and hope to have some adventures similar to yours in my rig.
@@chadhaire1711: any recommendation on tires? I’d like the ability to hit a trail while also dealing with snow when we visit Utah. I pull a boat on occasion but mostly just doing the family stuff. Was thinking the Michelin Defender LTX M/S 2.
@@mrard1 That is tricky.......Goodyear Wranglers have been used on off-road Jeeps forever and seem to be cheap enough.....Michelin are a top brand but I don't know enough about that tire. I think a good idea is to get on youtube and see if any evaluations have been done on off-road tires you might want. As far myself I never get near mud. sand, or snow anymore, especially that trick bag crap they have in Utah or Arizona Strip......never never again......surface that looks harmless on the surface but can get you in a bad situation like getting seriously stuck. Three times was enough.
Weird that before the 2014 refresh the GX was available with Hi-Lo HID headlights but now the high beams are halogen. I'm not sure that's a step forward.
wow is that thing ever outdated. I’d take it over anything else still. It’s still appealing. I could care less about swiveling headlights lol, just another thing that’ll fail one day. This thing relies on old tech that’s had the kinks ironed out, and that’s good.
I love it. It has tones of standard features that work very well. The luxury has all the features of a 65k car but are very simple and work very well. It lasts 500k+ and is hell of an off roader.
There is a Volvo on the way but they wont tell me what model it is. Frankly, the best SUV I have driven is the new KIA Telluride, but I don't know if it sells over there. I see on the news the UK has a new leader of sorts...Boris....looks and talks like our Trump....must be a trend.
@@chadhaire1711 The Telluride is slightly too large to be practical here. Tiny country with tiny roads and tiny parking places. A medium SUV that's F-Pace/Q5/GLC/XC60 sized is what I'm looking at. Not giving my money to the Germans however (they've had enough of that).
@@marcusskidmore7290 I miss the UK from the 60's and 70's--the best looking cars, great TV shows, best music, and sharp looking women in heal boots...sadly, those days seem to be gone....
Isn’t the air suspension only one the rear of the GX460 I’ve read it does not raise the front. I’ve heard it’s just to make it easier to unload and raise when towing if rear end sags. If that’s correct how’s that gonna help with ground clearance for the front?
The front has independent suspension while the rear has a huge solid rear axle that hangs lower if i recall. So the rear needs more lift on rough road, while the slimmer front does not.
I had a 2018 rx 350 L, at 25000 it needed a new head! I traded the RX at 65000 miles for a gx 460 2018 36000 miles. I love it. However I want all terrain tires. How big in size can I go? Rims and tires without loosing the smooth ride, what do you recommend?
I hear you. I just traded in my 2004 4Runner V8 Limited and I do not miss my 16 mpg average (15 city, 18 highway)! While the 4Runner and GX are extremely tough and reliable vehicles, they are severely outdated re. mileage and modern safety features.
You're mistaken and your approach for the GX 460 is from an uninformed position or is it angle. The GX 460 is a more powerful Land Cruiser Prado. Please do your research and this time include continents/countries outside the USA.
I dont care about the Prado..i never said this was an actual 4 runner platform I said this is what a 4 runner would be if it was upgraded ----you are the one needing to pay more attention not me.
@@chadhaire1711 Strange for no answer any way use regular if no knocking I have Prado same design with premium recommended if I use regular my car fuel system develop some ticking noises specially when not moving and some knocking while accelerating otherwise performance the same I try to put mix in between or fill one time regular and other premium and feel that it seems better
What concerns me is the low fuel economy with premium fuel. Makes it very expensive to run. Considering a Trailhawk with luxury package. Not much else that can tow and go off road. What would you choose between those two Chad?
Trailhawk and Lexus GX are two different items. The GX is a real heavy duty rig that competes with Jeep Wranglers and Land Rovers. None of these three get good fuel economy.
@@chadhaire1711 Thanks for the reply. I was talking about the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. There isn't much choice of midsize rigs that can go off road and also tow. While everything is a compromise, I still end up thinking the GC is the best overall package.
are you asking why it’s a side swinging gate instead of a lift gate like other suvs? Because this is based off of a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which in other countries comes with a full size spare tire mounted on it. So the only option is a swing out gate.
@@Littleathquakes Yes but--it swings out in the wrong direction for the North America market where the steering wheel is on the left, and loads are from the right side of the street. Hard to do with that door is in the way.
No Goober YOU are wrong...this vehicle shares the same body on frame construction and rear axle as the 4 runner among other parts. You want soft soap advertisement reviews go watch Doug DeMuro...
20 mpg claimed, but with that Ecoboost engine, you are never going to get it. And NO WAY that big Ford is going to perform well off road.....not even close! The Expedition is a soccer mom special for the street.
