A true “reference recording”! Breathing new life into an exquisite first masterpiece fro Beethoven. Made listen to an old favorite in a new way. Bravo!
Thank you very much, Will Lang, according to her autography, she has had an experience as well. My left arm does not have feeling yet, but I willl keep working on rehabilitations!!!!
She is undoubtedly the genius of the Century, since her childhood. The sound engineer did a superb job to blend all sounds and create the atmosphere and sound stage. Thumb's up for him/her too.
This is one of the best Martha Argerich that I’ve ever heard. A sprightly interpretation of light-hearted Beethoven. With this, she has truly proven that age is just a number. Martha Argerich the High Priestess of the Piano 🙏🏽🙏🏽. The Orchestral Accompaniment was also superb. The smaller orchestra seemed to give a degree of sensitivity to the performance. 🙏🏽
Martha is an unforgettable artist and player of the Mozart's and Beethoven's piano concertos. She lives in my heart forever❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤She is a giant and an unrepeatable artist ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@jeanash9502 Good morning Jean. happy Christmas and a marvellous start for you in 2023. You can watch Martha Argerich and the Oxford Philarmonic Orchestra April 3, 2023 in Heilbronn, Germany (Baden Württemberg). Beethoven's Piano Concert 1 will be performed. I saw her first on TV in 1973, I was young, a bit foolish and more handsome than now. She performed Tchaikovsky , Symphonie 1, this was well known. I live near Cologne but I will take the 350 km long drive to Heilbronn. - best wishes to you -
I am most grateful indeed - thank you so much Utube for letting us, who cannot afford to pay for music, to be given these videos to see and hear such great artists. I Humbly thank you, from Canad.
Stefan You can make it. I was in the same situation. Always say what you feel. Do not care other’s comment. Being honest with yourself gives you the most spiritual power. Keep on.
exceptionally graceful yet playful and coquette from Madame Argerich. Heartful condolences on the passing of her partner Nelson Freire, a master in his own right RIP
I often read Martha's fan talking about "her still being" when refering her senior years recordings and performances. I find no ground for "still" here - regardless of the natural limits that age brings, here she's better than ever. And that's not "just"about musicality and insight - that here's just the perfect Beethoven 1. Even better than ever before.
Good point! She's a force of nature and a pure genius of the keyboard! Her senior years? Many young pianist can envy her the elan vital and fervour! She's a mature player, who knows perfectly well what she wants to convey to the public and how to do it by hitting the right keys!
Still simply means that unlike many skills and abilities including piano prowess that are commonly affected negatively by age, Martha's skill seems not only undiminished, but in some ways even improved, amazing!
Ahh...Brava Martha.. Bravo Beethoven. Martha shows her true genius at the piano! She plays with emotion, conciseness, and elegance. Simply magnificence! So happy I was able to find this musical gem.
Martha is genius, of course, but what really impresses is the vibrancy and clarity in the reduced orchestral forces. It actually sounds better than with full orchestra. Better balance. The acoustics are exquisite. I regret that I was in this hall and didn’t get to hear a concert. The conductor is a gem. How could any human being not be touched by the childish joy in his face? It’s like he is discovering the music for the first time. Delightful!
@@johnsunde4339 So True !....And This is Accentuated by The Fact That We Have A Very Young Beethoven Still Heavily Influenced By Mozart Making His First Excursion into the genre of piano concerti. Thus A Far Flung Cry From The Fully Evolved and Mature Beethoven At The Height Of His Powers Who By The Time of Composing His Great Emperor Concerto was now using the Very Same Piano As Merely An Exstension of the Orchestra in His Monumental Symphonic Development !!!.....
Yes! the acoustics are exquisite. Kudo's to the sound engineers that recorded this as well. I was blown out of my seat by the quality and brilliance of this recording and the sheer power of this ageless Martha Argerich. I like her third movement performance even better than Yuja Wang's.
Excellent observation! I have never heard such a fine polish on a piece that I personally find bright and youthful but somehow mediocre, boring. Well, this is truly inspirational! Bravo to the joyful conductor, bravo to Martha and bravo to the sound technicians! P.S: Gábor who? It's such a shame I've never heard before of this exceptional conductor! Nor about his famous Takács Quartett.
After that, I felt like the audience who really didn't want to see Argerich go. Being here on RU-vid I had the priviledge of just clicking start and watching all over again!! Oh, her light clear touch, the precision, the vibration, the magic with that wizard, Gàbor conjuring joy into action and sound. Just watch the rapt look on the musicien's faces during the encores....
That struck me too! Just breathtakingly beautiful. The Communication between pianist and the separate 'voices' in the Orchestra is fantastic throughout all three movements actually - chamber music communication!
I first saw Martha Argerich perform at the Proms in the early 1960’s in London. Who knew she’d be as good as ever in her 80’s like in her 20’s. Clearly she’s having so much fun at the piano. Just look at her joyful expressions she occasionally imparts. Martha has been my favorite pianist of all time.
This memorable concert, Ludwig 250 years, Martha astonishing as ever, the music in a cold night... . It allow us to forget for a while the cloudy days we are living and move to a place where art rules - not tyranny or pain. Thank you so much, Martha Argerich, always.
Listening to Ludwig and Joan through this interpreter is a delight to abolish the surge of everyday noises and images to half-open the space of elsewhere where contingency and representation give way to the immateriality of the sensitive. The expressive power of the sound architecture breaks with any form of transcription of reality to attach itself to the expression of a fabulous universe where the color and the hythm of the compositions constitute an expiration which gives voice to the exaltation ☺
Martha Argerich is giving a brilliant performance ... pure MAGIC !!! The orchestra and conductor, Gábor Takács-Nagy are vibrant and ... simply outstanding. BRAVO & Thank you !!!
@@philliphamilton3591 A typical killer argument. Apparently you do have problems with different experiences and views. There is no excess mortality - worldwide - which is *one* characteristic of a pandemic.
Not only are all the artist's involved very good but the video camera work showing all the sections was done beautifully. Great sound quality is very evident as well. Martha and Gabor were just outstanding, their vibrant and melodious style give this performance a true elegance. The 3rd movement is a knock out highlighting Martha's virtuosity.
How lucky the audience, how privileged are we to be able to hear this historic performance. Bravo to all - M.Argerich (unbelievable), the marvelous conductor with his pared down orchestra and for Beethoven eternal gratitude times infinity.
ive been many times in this fantastic concert hall, in my opinion one of the best in europe with great acoustics and lovely art deco, conductor and soloist outstanding
What a performance! Gabor Takas-Nagy - How pleasant it is to see someone who so obviously enjoys his work! The same can be said of Argerich who is still superb at 78. They work well together.
Not True! More colorful beautiful piano sound than Argerich=Wilhelm Kempff Emil Gilels Artur Rubinstein Radu Lupu Vladimir Ashkenazy! More powerful Louder than Argerich=Mikhail Pletnev the Loudest! The second Loudest was Lazar Berman! More Genius than Argerich=Sviatoslav Richter Solomon Cutner Grigory Sokolov Maurizio Pollini Alexei Lubimov Stanislav Igolinski! Argerich not the genius! Argerich not the most Powerful! Argerich not the best piano sound!!
The first time Argerich recorded this concerto was in 1949. In 2019, she still had it and keeps going now in 2020s - and I've gotta say she plays really well currently. It's really beyond belief, a top level pianist that is active both in the 1940s and in the 2020s. Hard to comprehend. Also, she is one of the greatest pianists on record.
Into her 8th decade, she has lost none of that nimble, magic, precise touch and speed. Incredible pianist. I am glad to see Beethoven in her repertoire, as I have not seen or heard her play him before. Wonderful.
I can only say, have no words to describe the sublime beauty of Maestra Martha Argerich performance, exquisite, absolutely Divine. What a Genius, talented pianist master performer, to the exact composition letter, like we would be listening to Beethoven today, over 300 years later. Thank you so much Maestra Martha Argerich! Proud and pleased to know you were born in Argentina, from a devoted and loyal Argentinian fan of yours, since the times with the late Maestro and mentor Friedrich Gulda, when I listened to you at Teatro Colón. All the Best, stay strong, healthy and Safe! May God Bless!
This is an otherworldly performance. Martha brings another dimension to Beethoven ..distinctly a feminine energy that transcends . This performance is truly stunning and goes right to the heart . Her whole being is in the music . Her joy is infectious
Earliest recollection is Jascha Heifitz violin virtuoso and Sergei Rachmaninoff symphonies enjoyed through classic radio station imbued me with exponential knowledge. Love your exquisite ethereal enchanting piano performances.
Tout est miraculeux dans ce concert. Tout du premier phrasé de l’intro orchestrale avec l’accent qu’iil faut jusqu aux dernières notes de la gavotte de Bach. Thanks for uploading this extraordinary moment.
without the orchestra, the conductor and Martha plus the audience in the hall at that time this miracle had never occur. Thanks for sharing this once-in-a-lifetime performance that might disappear
Beethoven in Martha Argerich, embodiement. Across the centurys, musician comunication is a new concept every day. Thanks Martha, for this day. You are art, a women art. Forever.
Come to think of it, according to Wikipedia, Argerich gave her first public performance in 1949 at the age of 8 years, 70 years years before this performance. And what did she play? The Beethoven #1! That very performance can also be found on RU-vid.
What a great wonder she is! I'm in awe. Still after all the years she executes with such a fine touch and emotional finesse. Obviously the years have not dulled her sensibilities. So happy to see and hear this.
Beethoven: “Piano Concerto N.º1, in C major, Op. 15” 01:00 __ I. Allegro con brio 15:09 __ II. Largo 26:22 __ III. Rondo. Allegro scherzando encores: 38:38 __ Sacarlatti: “Sonata K141” 44:14 __ Bach: “Gavotte”
She was 79 when this was recorded. And she's still in a class of her own. Most pianists would struggle to get to her level, even at 20 or 30 years younger. Unbelievable. Thank you very much indeed, maestra.
This is absolutely exquisite, you just have to love the music of Beethoven and Mozart! It’s addictive, powerful and totally beautiful. Martha is a true Goddess of the piano, and the conductor is completely and happily absorbed by every note, it’s such a pleasure listening and enjoying it, I did not want it to end 👏👏👏.
@@davidbrown8763 lol, correct. In Germany we say "UNTER den fünf besten Klavierspielern", so in English "UNDER" might be wrong and among is correct here xD
The best living pianist most people have probably never heard of especially if you live in the US she's now 80 and plays all of this from memory!!!... Flawlessly...how is the possible??? But yet there she is.
