Corksport High flow intake is one of the simplest install I have ever done on this car. Big sound and you can actually feel the new power with this combined with Magnaflow exhaust system.
No offense to the OP but I thought the same. The larger OEM intake is clearly a CAI even if not as flowy as an aftermarket one would be. That shorty looks like a step backwards
It may sound cool but it's pulling in hot air from the engine compartment vs a CAI which brings in cooler air from down below. The only option for an SRI is to install a heat shield which will keep some of the engine heat from reaching the filter. You want to bring in cooler air, not hot.
@@KeAndreFoster cool air still comes in from those locations while driving, you just have to worry about heat soak at lights, but let's be honest, you are not launching these cars off the line.
I don't like rubber floor matts. They make total sense, easy to clean, last a long time, keep factory carpet cleaner. But I just like to send a message, Nice carpet matts look better. live on the edge a little, make a statement, be individual!
I hope you were being sarcastic in regards to the OEM air intake design lol it’s actually very well engineered with built channels to pull in air from the bottom (colder air) and air from the front of the hood
YA so, and it was sarcastic. The engineers could have also designed the ultimate cold air intake with a High flow filter to get more out of the engine. but instead they spent a year 3d scanning the space and over engineering this crazy contraption.
@@jasonin2details you just needed a high flow filter.. That fits inside oem. Box. , or least buy another piece of plastic tubing so your Intake cstches colder air from the bottom.
@@jasonin2details did u consider that the engine is sucking hot air from the engine bay instead cooler air in front of the car.? Warmer air means less mass. I don't think its better then before.
I've had the corksport intake on my 2012 Mazda 3 Skyactiv 6speed since 2020 and been very pleased with it. Recently my exhaust has started leaking and gotten pretty bad, corksport catback should be here in a few days.
We need some performance upgrades from someone to see where these can go, I fully anticipate this engine performing as well as the euro hot hatches, considering this is Mazdas first sporty turbo since the mps cars and it’s not branded as a sport hatch technically. Keeping up with gti’ sand beating out the Impreza is a good start
Hi mate I’ve got a Mazda 3 2021 skyactiv, 2 litre -120bhp...Been looking everywhere to improve the sound of the exhaust any recommendations/tips would be appreciated thanks..Also I live in England and all exhaust systems seem to be American haha !
Not a huge fan of sport mode with the Mazda 3. Especially with the 2.5T engine. It hangs onto gears a lot longer but by the time you're progressing through the shifts it's already up to speed. With my kia forte gt line - the sport mode was actually useful for passing because of the lackluster cvt. But with the 6 speed auto it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The acceleration is actually quicker in normal mode plus it's it doesn't wear and tear as much on the engine.
Extra length and plenum size are precisely calculated to offer best efficiency in the types of driving one would see in daily driving. The only people that might not benefit from it are those with too much money to spend on fuel and those who floor it to redline every day, thus making lower-rpm efficiency gains unnecessary.
How I wish they made a fast version of this, it’s such a beautiful car. Can’t wait until the Corolla GR comes out in the states, that HB is equally as beautiful.
@@joemzd not necessarily “fast”. It may be faster than the 2.5 NA but nothing compared to performance oriented hatches. Still a wonderful car that would sell like hot cakes if a performance version was released 🏎
@@rodrigosuarez586 I had an 02 Camaro Z28 and then a 2013 Genesis coupe track and now a 21 3 HB turbo and yes the mazda 3 isnt as exciting as the other cars but its almost just as quick, especially to 60, it has the perfect power for launching where I never get any wheel spin. It makes like 300 lbft of torque @ 2000 RPM crazy low in the rev range.
@@rodrigosuarez586 "Still a wonderful car that would sell like hot cakes if a performance version was released " Ya thats why the speed 3 is their number one selling model
The OG intake actually sounds like a CAI. Mine whistles when driving. Im thinking some type of reusable filter replacment in the already CAI box would be neat. Not yet invented.
I get the breathing easier part, and I have used an APR CAI but it drew air from the front grill as well. Putting your air source inside a hot engine bay makes zero sense for cooler air.
Thank for all the RU-vid automotive engineers who enjoy my sarcasm on weight saving and the function of this intake. Many times we do mods just for the fun of it. They might not add much except the fun of just looking at it every now and then at a car show.
Bro put up the links to buy all the mods? Where can I get then with down rain guards and the spoiler and the springs and the intake filter in this video? Thanks
I read that these can ruin your maf sensor. But non oiling that sounds incorrect. Interested how regularly the filter needs cleaning and what you think of it now
Sounds just like my Stage 2+ Audi S3 8V. Going to make the swap to this Mazda3 in the Spring ... Need a more reliable daily lol. Can't decide between the sedan and hatchback honestly, I've driven both, deeply understand the pros and cons of each: visibility, trunk space, price difference, aesthetics, etc.... Anybody got input on their preference?
Hi there I have got on the same cold air intake and I have an engine malfunction error on the dashboard, do you also got the same problem, if so how you solve it ?
@@sickslickz hello, I got my air flow sensors right, I just unpluged my battery and plugged it back. And now the malfunction thing went off. Thank you so much anyway, have a nice one.:)
i want a mazda3 hatch but can’t afford those news 2.5turbos. Is it possible to get a turbo kit for the 186 hp non turbo engines and get it up to the same hp as the new ones?!
You lose power, you increase fuel consumption and you force feed your engine hot air which is a killer for Skyactive engines since they use more air on the engine to cause combustion, than any other engine out there. So no, you only get a nice sound and ruin your car.
I mean 5 if anything, but probably no extra horse power, the sound inside the cabin is pretty sweet tho (the audio in video does not give it justice), car does take a mpg/kpg hit, but in my opinion, the sound makes up for it in my opinion, definitely wakes the car up, and makes it more fun to drive at just regular speeds
So let me get this straight. You force your car to suck HOT air but sound "cool" causing more harm than good in the long run. Got it. As for the description, I find it a bit deceptive as a Mazda 3 onwer my self. It doesn't add up any power, infact if anything you lose power given you suck in air that is about 50 degrees celcium at best on a cold day, since the engine runs at around 100 degrees on average during winter with minus temperatures. The proper way to do this (as I did), is to visit a mechanic, and have that filter extended all the way down to the fender gap, that way it will be away and under the engine and it will always suck fresh air 24/7. The only difference I noticed was the sound and the fuel consumption, no power gains.
What a waste of money Jason! This plus Magna Flow exhaust not much different to standard car. You're much better (and cheaper) drilling some holes in your original exhaust to get a better sound!!
drill holes in your exhaust or just delete your mufflers with a low hp low revving i4 eco car and your met with a car that sounds like a super loud hive of bees and sounds shit outside and inside the car. Loud doesnt= good. This sounds much nicer and def sounds good in the interior. most v8s sound decent with a muffler delete but your average sedan i4 or v6 muffler deleted will sound like ass.
The airbox looks like that because it is a tuned "helmholtz resonator". Look that term up. The filter hanging off the throttle body may make it sound cool but likely will create holes in an otherwise nice wide torque curve because the flow characteristics being off.
What I did instead of buying an hot air intake was remove and block off the intake resonator. It gave it a bit extra sound and now the outside air goes directly in and through the filter instead of the resonator.
Hello there. How did you do that? I already have a high flow k&n filter on the stock intake system. But that trick sounds interesting and would like to try it.
What does "Montrosity" mean? 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the video, I'm considering making a box as now the " cold" air filter will not be so cold air when it doesn't have a direct path to the air filter. Now you are. Just taking ambient air which is being directly heated from engine temperature. I'm calling that, overlooked or under engineering on corksport behalf
How would you lose Mpg for freer flowing intake? I'm thinking it's because we enjoy the sound, so we gun it more out of habit, and that's really why the Mpg suffers. Prove me wrong. I mean really, when is the last time you blipped the throttle of your STOCK car to impress someone at light...... NEVER! 🤣🤣🤣
Ummmm, no not necessarily. Unless you tuned the engine CPU, the car will adjust for the optimal engine economy and performance based on the algorithms programmed. The MFA helps with this process. Especially when compensating for altitudes and other instances where air density may be effected, ie... Hot vs cold air (cold air being more dense). Experiment ; take a straw, try and take a deep breath through it, now try it again while slight pinching the straw. Which one was easier to breath through? No Brainer right? Your brain nows how much oxygen you need, but your body will worker harder trying to draw in that air through a restrictive opening, which means increased heart rate, I turn upping your metabolic rate (Mpg in your cars case). But if you easily draw air in, but it's heated vs being cold, that effects density therefore with out a heat shield any gains you may have achieved are negligible.
@@godzla69 the whole point of an aftermarket intake is to increase airflow. if you're flowing more air the MAF will account for that and adjust fuel trims accordingly. more air = more fuel = worse economy. it's no surprise *whatsoever* that an aftermarket intake reduced fuel economy, especially in an economy car. i'm not reading the rest of whatever you commented because it has nothing to do with this conversation, but if you mentioned heat soak there was showings that a corksport short ram intake had negligible heat soak which immediately went away upon driving the car regardless.
She sounds just right, just as I want it one day. It s like subtle sporty sound, even gives me a little rotary mazda sound when reved up. At least to me it has like a rotary tone to it, in my opinion just perfect for a daily driver
@@Samiam_ariel With a 2019 3 there is now power gains anywhere. Things got less than 200 horse. I like the way it sounds that’s bout it. Traded that in though and got a ‘22 Tacoma now. Kinda miss the 3 and how comfortable it is but I do love having a truck to haul my detailing stuff in
The reason that air box looks like that is engineering. You basically removed all that hard thought-out engineering which not only suppresses intake sound but also take refractory waves that are coming off the intake and exhaust valves and canceling them out which increases your low end torque. There are box is actually a very well-designed cold air intake also so you replace that, which in effect reduces your power output, and sucks in some extra dirt, to get some rice he looks and some sound. Congratulations
@@StreetP00DLEif losing power is fun for you then go for it lol. There are mods that are way more cost effective that are both fun and gain actual HP.
@@StreetP00DLE number one , an ECU reflash/tune, Lighter wheels, are two of the most cost effective. With a tune you could even run and intake with larger piping and MAF housing and get real gains from it. But slapping on a cai and mufflers downs nothing for power
I hate to piss on this cos Im sad..I have a 2021 Hatchback. But these confuse the computers, often put much hotter air in, set the Check Engine lights off and in time will make it idle and run worse cos the car isnt tuned for it. UPDATE : Its a year later and my opinion, right or wrong has changed. Now the only thing i still believe is about the hot air.
Wow you are an amazing RU-vid mechanic. It did no harm, no check engine lights ever and had it for thousands of miles. It was purely a cosmetic addition for shows since we used to have a lot of fun displaying it. It added a little neat sound. So im not sure why it would even bother you in the first place what we decided to do for fun.
I just got the replacement cone filter from them. Haven't replaced it yet but FYI it has an inverted cone in the end of it compared to the flame rubber capped end. Might make it slightly more throaty-er? Lol
