All that low end torque & AWD make the Mazda a classy beast around the city and 'burbs sprinting stoplight to stoplight. GTI comes on stout when you have enough room to wind her out. Bonus points for DSG. ASpec Integra looks good parked in front of the girlfriends nail salon.
What I meant by automatic is the Mazdas transmission. Calling it a six speed implies it’s a manual transmission. What car enthusiast says “I drive a six speed”… and pulls up with an AT lol
@@MrSpamfriedrice ??? Six speed doesn’t imply manual transmission. It only implies that it has 6 gear ratios. If you choose to infer that that’s you choice but the video makes it very clear that it’s an AT. I think most people know the turbo Mazda doesn’t even come with a manual.
I feel like the Mazda 3 is slept on in the tuner world. I’ve been daily driving one for almost 2 years and it’s been my favorite car I’ve ever owned! It’s a 2012 2.5 liter 6 speed manual one! Super reliable, good on gas and it’s definitely a driver based car!
I think you’re onto something. Awesome to hear that yours has been so good! It makes sense. Mazda traditionally makes the most driver focused offering in every segment that they participate in….The relatively low sales volume may be to blame for the reason that tuners overlook them 🤷🏻♂️
@@mikeyfourbarrel8473 well the thing is of that year they have the Mazdaspeed3 but I’m looking for long term , cost friendly owner ship so I went with the Mazda 3 hatch instead of the turbo speed3. Everybody is like bro just get a speed3 I’m like I don’t want to deal with turbo issues and poor gas mileage. Even tho it’s not the speed3 it’s very fun and looks amazing too!
@@Chriskary1 I daily a 2008 speed3 hatch. Haven't had any issues besides replacement of clutch master cylinder over 140k miles on the odometer. Been getting 22 mpg average as well. Definitely one of my top fav cars I've owned
Thx for always including these roll races! Many channels don't bother with it but to me it's much more important as I'm not particularly keen on launching a car I'm still paying for all the time :) Great channel, keep up the good work!
Excited for this one since its representative of what younger car enthusiasts tend to buy. Cheaper, versatile and fun. My money is on the GTI, its the most balanced car and probably the fastest
I really liked the video, The GTI is simply the best with its combination between engine and transmission, The GTI was surprising even without the extra HP and torque of the Mazda, it showed us how good that car is to win
I have 2023 GTi, my boys each have 2024 M3 turbo. Sedan and hatch. They love my GTI driving dynamic. M3 interior super elegant. M3 suspension feels every imperfection on the road. GTI infotainment not bad as all those reviews. Both cars near perfect.
The reason why the Mazda came in 2nd is because it's not a hot hatch/performance car. Yes it's got a Turbo and AWD but Mazda has specifically said that the MazdaSpeed is dead. They are focused on more comfortable and luxury type of vehicles. Mazda's aren't geared for performance hence the transmission and no sporty suspension. It may take most cars off the line, but then the power falls off a cliff. Just happens to be a good daily commuter with some power.
3 semi spicy conveyance devices. The Mazda3 a surprise off the line to be totally honest. Integra Type S vs the GTI would be neat to see if ever possible.
The Mazdas have a LOT of torque comapratively due to the higher compression ratio from the skyactiv engines. I have a manual (non turbo, non AWD) which is lighter but of course much less HP and torque than the turbo. It seems like the torque is very focused in the 2.5k to 4k range though, under 2.5k it feels a bit sluggish when you're actually driving it but it still takes off real zippy when commuting / doing everyday driving. Mine has been wonderful as a daily driver and is fun with how zippy it is. The OEM tires on them are not great though... I also personally LOVE the interior. I bought mine for $25k for full premium manual 2021 with the red leather interior and I love having an excuse to go for a drive just to be inside the interior and go zooming around.
I owned an integra for 1 month and sold it. The CVT and big lack of power was why I sold it. Luckily, I only had 400 miles on it and only lost about 600 in trade.
vw's dct is just so good. the gti is more of a drivers car vs the mazda is just a comfy daily with nice interior and a slow gearbox lol. the reason why I got the mazda3 is because awd and living in a place that snows. if the golf r was cheaper I would've gotten that for sure!
Turned out as expected for the Integra. Acura makes some of the best non-competitive cars on the market. Thankfully, there’s a robust aftermarket for turbo Honda products.
@@scottlouis1064 they will in the upcoming Type S. I would argue that this base model isn't underpowered though, it's just going up against elevated competitors. The base Integra should be up against the base Mazda3 and the Golf (although, in fairness, you can't buy that in America anymore). He's driving the family car version designed top to bottom for fuel economy versus the performance car versions of the other two. This is particularly an issue because he's using, by far, the slowest transmission on the Integra against the fastest transmissions on the other two, so it's amplifying that gap.
They purposely did this to sell Type-S. That is supposed to have 300HP. Unfortunately will still get smoked by Nissan Z and others in it's price range. Acura for some reason always plays it conservative = BORING
it got shit on by the GTI wtf are you talking about? the MANUAl version of the integra is barely faster silly, they're ALL slow, ALL integras are slower then competition , it's a souped up civic si
@Robotic Venom it's really a terrible comparison to begin with. The GTI is a performance variant of an economy car. The Mazda, more or less, is the same. The CVT Integra is an entry-level Luxury option. It doesn't really pretend to be a high performance option. That's what the Type S will be for. Now obviously, the Type S wouldn't compete with the Mazda 3 or GTI - but again, that's why this video is based on a very poor comparison.
@@ytsux9259 Really. I thought the segment cared about performance. The Acura can't compete lets not keep making excuse for Acuras inability to make a decent sports sedan.
WAAIT. Help me. 1st of, great video, camera work & post. A+ Question about the Integra. You were in "Sport mode" but your gages were black and not RED. Did you do all of the video in not Sport Shift + Sport select mode? When you do both the gages are surrounded in red. Help?
Can't wait for the Integra Type-S to hit the streets! I guarantee that it will absolutely walk a Prius... I mean a Camry... I mean a Saturn ION...actually I really won't make any guarantees. 😅
Being honest here, I didn't even care for driving until I drove a VW GTI mk6 and eventually bought one! The most fun car to drive! Buy one and your driving life is gonna be part of your fun life 🤗🤗
Integra is gonna be last Mazda 3 2nd due to the transmission and the gti first because of how good those transmissions are and power only way i think Mazda might win is off the launch
You should include the Elantra Nline in some of these segments of cars just like the Elantra N it’s a huge bargain plus with the 7 speed DCT it’s no slouch
I personnally have the same car (Mazda 3 turbo AWD red) I love my car .. but the transmission is slow versus competition With a 8speed trans ... It Will be alot better This engine have lots of torque But overall (daily Driver) great
I have the 3 also (sedan). It’s a rocket off the line but runs out of steam. I put CorkSport lowering springs on mine and MZS 12mm wheel spacers. It’s more of a “low and slow” type cruiser with a bit of punch when I need it. But I’m not drag racing anyone lol
@@francislesperance3958 Yes, it is VERY conservative from the factory. And the 6 speed auto doesn’t do it any favors. However I found that putting it in manual mode does lock the torque converter and allows a more aggressive launch. Personally I don’t think I’ll touch my engine. With the car being automatic only, it’s just not worth it to me. Plus I have 2 other cars so the Mazda can stay stock aside from the aesthetic/handling upgrades that I made.
Wait what makes the Golf catch up to the Mazda like that maybe the Golf transmission has a better ratio set up or is the turbo in the GTI way better and keeps a consistent boost??? The Mazda3 Turbo had more Hp so it should ha e gotten the clear wins but hey what do I know lol
GTI pulls constant until it's near 7k redline while Mazda falls off after 4.5k rpm. GTI is also underrated on horsepower and puts more power down to the wheels than the Mazda.
The entry level Integra is supposed to be where the WRX/GTI reside as far as power levels go. At least 225 to 240 hp from the detuned 2.0T in the Accord. Way to go Honda for hyping up everyone for nothing. It's going to be the same story with the Type-S whenever it debuts. If they're positioning Acura as the premium brand, then go all in. I'll be surprised if it bests a GTI much less a Golf R.
The Type S will have the Type R engine. Acura however, better add the 10 speed auto and the SH-AWD otherwise what is the point? As of now, the Integra is just a slightly more prestigious car than the Si. And to be fair, the Integra has always been a Civic.
Acura/Honda needs to watch these videos and fix there cars. Watch the 2.0 accord and be more like that and how they use to be punching above there weight.
I had one of those Mazdas and i affirm that it doesn’t produce 250hp not even close… not even with airplane gas at sea level and crank HP !! For sure i sold it 3 months after…that VW engine pulls hard!!
I wish Mazda would bring back their Speed 3 with this gen. It would look so sick with a factory aero kit and some larger wheels. It's already AWD and Turbo, just beef up the internals and give it a proper transmission.
Bad matchup for the integra, not only is it heavier it was out matched by like 40-50 Hp by the other two. Don’t get started on the torque, yea it had no shot sad that u gotta probably put the Type S against these two which is not a good thing
Mazda is rated at 210hp at the wheels. GTI is rated for 241hp at the wheels. Sources are from dyno graphs around the internet. Both figures should be from 91 octane fuel. If it's 93 octane or higher then Mazda would probably be 220hp at the wheels but I can't find a dyno graph for this.
@@zero7523 It’s mostly the transmission, if it had a quicker better transmission like the vw it would walk the gti on 91 or 93 octane. That 6 speed holds it back.
@@ZACH_95_ it's how the AWD system sucks power from the crank in the form of losses, as well as what you said regarding the transmission type and the gear ratios. It's disappointing but at least it'll guarantee smoking any GTI from a dig for the first 5 seconds 😂
Interesting points: 1. Despite the Specs Mazda has, it got beat by the FWD GTI quite badly on a roll. Even from the Dig, keeping in mind GTI has tougher launch with FWD Set up. Yeah people will say, its AWD, heavier, and other excuses, but it has 2.5L engine and AWD set up to get a head start. So that's not a good set up, lower HP with much higher torque. And bigger engine producing just a bit more HP than the smaller engine... 2. the mighty 1.5L T is not too too bad. But that's too bad Acura did this to the Integra, coz then it can't win any race and just make them look bad.... Even the TLX Type S can't win any race against competitors. why would Acura do that? they claim that Acura is the 'performance' division of Honda? Really? I disagree because the Si will likely beat the Integra, the 10th gen accord has been proven to beat any TLX of its class, and the Type R would even probably catch up to the TLX Type S in half mile with smaller engine, FWD set up and Stick. People will again say oh TLX Type S is so heavy, yes, but it has 1 extra Liter engine to make up for it. So probably it's more like Acura is the 'Luxury' division of Honda, rather than 'Performance'.
On a Vacuum the integra is fine. But you hit the point not many cover, and that is that Honda said that Acura is the performance division. And in that regard, particularly the TLX Type S, has been a total let down.
that's because on a roll power to weight ratio matters more. AWD is good off the line but from a roll it has more transmission losses vs a FWD. Also GTI has a faster transmission. Mazda 6-speed auto is okay but was not designed for fast shifts.
These are different cars with different missions. The gti is meant to be a performance car while the others aren’t. The gti’s DCT is much faster to respond and the engine is tuned for high end power. The Mazda is tuned to drive comfortably and deliver a lot of low end thrust for effortless acceleration.
I’ve always thought the Integra wasn’t well thought out by Acura. It’s trying to be too many things to everyone and fails at all of it. And that grille that their proud of is just a mess, not doing anything for the styling.
This what I'm saying - Acura building good cars with at least a major flaw. Best example is 2nd gen RDX with no sh-awd, this Integra with 1.5T Instead of amazing 2.0T...
the funny part is, the 2nd gen RDX with the basic AWD was actually quicker than the current RDX with SH-AWD. SH-AWD significantly improves cornering/handling, but adds over 200 lbs of weight. And the Integra Type S with the 2.0T and 300+ hp is coming this summer.
Mazda took forever to replace that 6-speed automatic transmission on their cars. It's great for comfort, but that's it. With the new platform RWD based AWD system, the new INLINE-6 engine, as well as the new 8-Speed automatic transmission... we'll see what mazda will do. I'd love to see it on the Mazda6 if they plan on re-releasing the 6 eventually... but as of right now... that 6-speed automatic transmission REALLY SUCKS !
it got shit on by the GTI wtf are you talking about? the MANUAl version of the integra is barely faster silly, they're ALL slow, ALL integras are slower then competition , it's a souped up civic si. the manual integra is not faster then the Mazda 3 turbo, never has and never will be
it got shit on by the GTI wtf are you talking about? the MANUAl version of the integra is barely faster silly, they're ALL slow, ALL integras are slower then competition , it's a souped up civic si
So for normal driving, the Mazda is going to be way better in regular driving. The gti is better for highway driving, but how bad it is from a stop would be so annoying
no actually they dont. they are one of the only vehicles in the class not using a cvt and they make the thing in house which is common for a lot of auto makers.. do i really need to mention that is not a performance trans.. i agree it could use a couple more gears but the transmissions they use are proven
It's called sandbagging manufacturers put lower hp figures to trick their competitors into making a slower car . How far we have come since the 1990's Japanese gentleman's agreement to cap 1400kg cars at 270bhp .🤦♂️
@@davidgriggs3967 No, conspiracy theorist, it's called superior German engineering. Guess what's the fastest production car on the Nurburgring? Hint: it's a German car.
@@KP-xi4bj LOL! Superior German engineering my a$$. Just lies, about their engines real HP. Look at BMW, Porsche, Audi, etc. Or VW Golf R that has 340-350hp in reality not 320 as they claimed. Guess who has the fastest FWD production car. NOT german!
also the factory tune cuts power at Higher rpm. There are a few tunes out now that resolve this issue. I would like to a see a video comparing the factory car to a tuned mazda3.
Mazda needs to make a 3 with the new 8 speed transmission they developed for the SUVs. I think the 6 speed is more suitable for the 2.5 non turbo, very tall gears. The tall gears of the 6 speed don't really blend with the turbo performance wise as the turbo short shifts at roughly 5500 rpm to stay in the powerband
Mazda driver should turn off the TCS and activate sport mode. Then, he should switched the car from auto to manual mode and shift the gears at 7400 rpm 😂😂😂
@@AcuraChannel yeah but the race here is about 3 cars on the same price range. The Type S would be way over and into a different category where it will most likely lose again
@@Siempredevacaciones I don't agree with the losing piece. 😎We'll have to see..I'm quite sure Sam will have it featured on the channel by this summer..
