Personally, I really like the CX-9. It drives very well, feels rather premium, and offers nice features at each price point. However, the overall space/function relative to how long it is compared to other 3 row vehicles in its class make it difficult for me to recommend. It’s still a great vehicle and I’d love to hear what you all think as well! Thanks for watching! 😁 Check out the CX-5 full review & drive here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FDZYVYeFEoI.html

Prime Autotainment, I think it is still worth recommending it just depends on which buyer. If the buyer is looking for cargo space as main factor then Atlas and Pilot but for reliability the. highlander...for Styling, driving dynamics, fuel economy & low NVH then this CX9 is worth recommending.

Can’t believe the forester or crv has more cargo space than this!? 😱 you also forgot about the lack of ac vents on the 3rd row.

Cargo space is plenty for us. We owned a Ford Explorer with push button 3rd row seats, I think in the 8 years we owned it we opened them 3 time.

I like the accent lighting on the grille. I think I would skip the rear entertainment, one because the screens seem so out of place the way they're placed on the back of the seats, the placement would've been more seamless if they were simply built in the headrest. Also, children have tablets now and can watch videos on them. Overall, I like the upgrades, but with the newer competition offering a lot more cargo/interior space, I think being a Mazda loyalist and dealer incentives are going to be a strong need to beat out the rivals. Great review, Nolan!

Thank you! 😁 I feel just like you do! I thought the entertainment system was silly too and especially for $2k...yikes. Couple tablets with headphones are much cheaper and easier.

Definitely the prettiest mid-size SUV as well as the best driving. I think they have definitely been successful in bring it upscale. If I was in the market for a mid-size upscale SUV, this would be high in the list. As far as a practical mid-size SUV, this ain’t it. Overall, I’d still go with the Subaru Ascent...a good riding, practical, well built SUV for less $.

Outstanding review Nolan! Thank you! In your opinion, do you prefer the CX 9 or the CX 5? I am leaning towards purchasing the CX 5 Signature this spring. Keep up you excellent work!
@PrimeAutotainment
@PrimeAutotainment 5 лет назад
Thank you very much! I’d go with the CX-5 over this. But I also don’t need a 3rd row right now and enjoy the more manageable and nimble size of the CX-5 and it still offers nearly everything 😁. Thanks again!

That long bonnet looks good but I can imagine the challenge in trying to park this car. Would you consider to do a parking test review in a real world setting like inside an office building and in an normal sized parking square? It will be interesting to see how easy or difficult it is to park this car nose first. Keep up the good review.
@PrimeAutotainment
@PrimeAutotainment 5 лет назад
Thank you! Yeah the length of the vehicle definitely makes a challenge when parking, but not too bad. I don’t have access to the vehicle anymore but it’s similar to other SUVs but certainly noticeable when going nose first

Great review Nolan. I like Mazda, especially the styling. As far as buying one, I would not if I were in the market for a three row. Looks cramped. If I were in the market for a three row, I’d probably hold off until the next gen Explorer.

Drives very well. good power up to 80 mph. My main complaint is the air conditioning system is weak and had to be recharged at owner's expense. Cost me $175 after only 20,000 miles.

@@PrimeAutotainment ...perhaps this is a common problem in the design and engineering of Mazda's cooling systems. At $50K, this is borderline unacceptable. I also had to get my rims resurfaced due to peeling of the top paint layer AND the in-dash tablet began to form stress cracks from sun exposure so that was replaced too. Mazda did fix them both under the warranty, but still at 20K miles, this stuff should not have been happening. The poor placement of the infotainemnt system on top of the dash exposed to the sun often caused a warning message that it was "overheating and may shut down until the temperature reduced" is due to poor engineering flaw in my opinion. Still, overall, the car drives like a very responsive luxury sedan and very enjoyable otherwise. It's performance, handling and great looks are persuasive to to the point of it still feeling like a good buy.

I'll restrain myself and let my numerous comments about the CX-9 in other reviews speak for themselves. Just a brief comparison with the KIA Telluride. The KIA is over 2" shorter than the CX-9 and offers about 1/3 more passenger and cargo space! It has a standard V6 engine in a vehicle weighing over two tons compared to the CX-9's 2.5L turbo 4. The top level Signature trim in the CX-9 is impressive; the Telluride's is at least as impressive if not more so. Feature for feature from the infotainment system to numerous other amenities including the dual sunroofs, third seat features and cargo capacity behind the third row the Telluride ranks higher. All that at an MSRP more or less equal to the CX-9. Of course, the CX-9 can probably be purchased at a discount sitting on a dealer lot while the Telluride has waiting lists and "market adjustment" stickers at most KIA dealers. But that tells you something about the comparative value, as well.
@stephenhendricks103
@stephenhendricks103 5 лет назад
@Forced Induction All true. To be fair, one advantage of being late to the party is that you get to see what everyone else is wearing and dress accordingly. KIA (and Hyundai) not only do a noteworthy job of packing their new models with almost all of the features of the competition and more, KIA has an excellent record of listening to their customers and updating their models between major refreshes much less between model generations. When we replaced our 2012 Sorento my wife made a list of the things that annoyed her about it. None was a major issue but she wanted a vehicle that corrected those annoyances. Literally every single issue (and more) had been addressed in the 2018 version.

Even though they get grouped in the same category the CX-9 and Telluride are very different SUV's. Telluride is more like a poor mans Range Rover and is more rugged and off -road worthy and appropriately boxy. CX-9 is more of a poor mans Q7 ( same interior dimensions as CX-9 btw... seems to work for Audi). Much more of a sport's wagon type vehicle with lower ground clearance and more tuned for spirited on road driving and has a totally different body shape going for a long, sleek and beautiful look. It's the prettiest girl at the bar by far. If you need the extra 10-15 cubic feet and don't care about driving dynamics by all means I would get something else and the Telluride ( if it proves to be reliable in 2 years) would be the way I'd go. Regardless of it's bigger displacement, the Kia's V-6 has almost 50 ft lbs less torque than the turbo 4 in the Mazda. The CX-9 will get you to 60 mph just as quick and when you get to that first sweeper you'll appreciate what Mazda was able to do with a 4500 lb SUV. The handling and road feel are incredible for such a large sled. Unfortunately that doesn't matter to 95% of the "drivers" out there so if you don't care about driving I'm sure the Telluride would do. To over pay for one now is just silly. A year from now they'll be on sale. Right now you could get a CX-9 Signature for 6-7k less ( maybe more off than that) than the Telluride.

@@justinfontaine5539 Hey Justin, good to see you again. :) You make the best possible case for the bloated CX-9. Unfortunately, trying to cast the CX-9 as the "prettiest girl at the bar" is a bridge way too far. Perhaps the prettiest girl at fat camp. If you're looking for "incredible" "handling and road feel," a two ton plus 17 ft long crossover is not even in the game. You're right about one thing, though. You can get a CX-9 for much less $$$ than a Telluride. That's largely because CX-9 sales have been dropping year on year since June of 2018.
@justinfontaine5539

If I'm looking for incredible handling I'll drive my C7 Corvette. But we are talking about having to drive an SUV type vehicle and not feeling like your driving a wallowy min-van which is what many of the other entries feel like. The fact that the body is a few inches longer makes no difference and in fact the longish wheelbase is 115" helps creates a plush ride on the highway while still handling quite well. Have you ever thrown one around on a mountain road? It's pretty amazing for what it is and every single review rates it at the absolute top in road manners. I'm glad they don't sell as many CX-9's as all the other dreck out there. Makes it even more premium. How are those new Sorento prices and sales doing now that the incredibly better Telluride is out for the same price in top trims? If that rig is all it's cracked up to be and reliable the Sorento will take a big hit. If someone offered you a choice right now between a top spec Telluride or a top spec Sorento same money, I'm pretty sure which one you'd take. @@stephenhendricks103

@@stephenhendricks103 BTW look at Toyota's new Highlander trying to recreate some of the same lines as the CX-9. They stretched the hood, made it longer with same/less cargo space and dropped the rear roof line to make it look more sleek. Hmmm. Sound familiar? Too bad it didn't work and they uglied it up with those goofy side lines and rear end. It was the vehicle I wanted to see before I got the CX-9 but now I'm glad I didn't wait because this new Highlander is a swing and a miss. Go over to to the Forums. The Toyota Highlander fan boys hate it.
