Yeah cracked my head a few times on that bed while working out. The only problem I have is the bunk heater when its below 25. Forced a few cycles and got the bad fuel out but smelled great
Managed to get into that TA just west of Asheville pretty easily i see. That one was always a weirdly set up place, not a bad spot just a weird parking lot. A good and honest review, definitely something i'd take into consideration if i ever got back to driving; got out of it for a while after some stuff happened with family. The one thing with auto transmissions that make or break them is that if they aren't calibrated right, it makes the truck a literal pain in the arse. I remember helping a Werner driver back in one day, thought he was a new guy at first but turned out to be one of their veteran drivers, 18 years otr i total i think. His truck had an auto (T660 KW i think) trans and was applying full power with just the slightest tap of the throttle in reverse while the guy was trying to back into a spot. Needless to say that confused me pretty good. Even though i only spent three years otr, it was a good time and ended up learning a lot. Hope you aren't getting battered by this winter weather if your in the midwest, stay safe out there!
Very intelligent and pragmatic review. Not petty in any way. Those little daily earned details are things that Peterbuilt should listen to and take into consideration for upgrades, retrofits, and future models. It’s not an inexpensive brand, so the company should always strive to make its customers as comfortable as possible. Notes such as the lighting all around, the sitting space on the bed, and the various other inconveniences are important for the company to consider for their hard-working customers.
"A little bid louder", a vast improvement from the first truck I started in, a 1978 White Road boss with an add on sleeper and a 318 two stroke Detroit, sleeping took some getting used to with that noise maker. Nice ride ya got there I hope it does right by you.
That economy version of that motor is prpbably 485 hp 1850 torque..Imagine how that truck would pull with the performance series 565 hp 2050 torque..get you a couple tap lights for them dark spots..good video
I don't know if you have but if you don't use it remove the top bunk mattress and leave it at home . Maybe that would help and give you more storage ...
A block heater with an APU will pump coolant through to keep at 100-150• and you can run an APU around 0• without it gelling up if you put additive in. I’ve been an O/O the last 7yrs.
I've been down to -36 without gelling after adding additives. I have used Espar engine heaters to warm up an engine before cold starts many times up in Wisconsin during the winter. Espar bunk and engine heaters and a good APU are two of many essentials on any truck I would buy.
With VVT turbos, a good tune, and the right drivetrain you can get fuel economy of a Crashcadia and DD15. That also goes for a 2004-06 specific Series 60 14 liter engine.
I just got my 2020 yesterday was half a tank when i picked it up in iowa didnt put fuel in until i got to michigan but really didnt have to i was on a quarter tank.. over 500 miles so i can agree a full tank would def grt u over 1000 miles.. awesome.. my kenworth was a little over 600. Well i was bobtailing 11.3 mpg
I'm a little disappointed in Peterbilt. For it to be considered a "premium brand" of the industry, it's still lacking a lot as far as the sleeper area is concerned . As of yet, I'm only impressed with the ride. Thank you for taking the time to do this review.
I was trained in a 2019 cascadia nice truck, but I chose the Peterbilt 2019 579. The turn radius don't compared to the cascadia, I agree the 579 can be noise inside at times. As far as overall ride and comfort the 579 all day long, it just feels better...
I don't like how companies buy the 579 model with the double bunk and have teams drive them. You are lucky you're driving solo, otherwise; it'd get a little cramped. Now, I'm happy to see that they came out with the ultra loft. From the outside, The mid-roofs look like a full size, until you realize that's a big ass wind deflector on top...
The controls looks like my DAF XF460 @ Europe. Cause its the same PACCAR Company like your Pete and Kenworth you drove. You had definitly much more space for everything in the truck like me and my boys here around Europe
@@earthscraper69 There is a placard on the top front drivers side of the engine. You've been a driver for 22 years and your not a O.O.? Best thing I ever did.
@@matt89108 some guys arent meant to be OO like me and you thats perfectly fine, hes a driver whos speaking his truth about trucks that hes driven, i take his opinion on a higher level than most any others who want to brag that they have the best,
pooya zolanvar A relatively inexpensive thing that enhances the feeling of space, would be a swivel on the passenger seat. Driver comfort should be just as Important as vehicle safety. At least I think so.
@@Jeh110 You are right. As long as humans drive the truck, the first and most important safety feature is driver comfort. That goes for sleeping as time off during the day as well as while driving. A driver who is relaxed and fit, is a driver that is focused and safe… and one that brings in money by not damaging things. The best brakes in the world with the best emergeny braking assist are useless, if the driver isn't able to avoid dangerous situations in the first place - they are only the last line of defence.
Videos like this make me want to fullfil my childhood dream and become a long haul truck driver, but i'm 25 and i just moved to the USA a few months ago so i feel like i might be a bit too late :/
Yeh, I questioned it too when he said "not to ask me about the specs" but if you are not an owner op making spec decisions I can see that. I am in the process of ordering one now and sure, specs are important to me because of understanding the why's and assuring good resale value. Otherwise a nice little video. Glad you are enjoying your truck. Enjoy that truck stop, glad you were there early...otherwise that lot can be a bit "difficult".
Thank you and yes sir I don't mind backing. This truck was ordered by another company and they backed out. The owner got a good deal on this one. Hope you enjoy your new truck as well.
If you ask me that's not real trucking, it saves fuel yes but shifting and clutching that's real trucking, I'm not a trucker but I think that really sucks!
I just found this video . How'd the tv hold up with the bracket offset like that. Mine didn't have 1, but i just got that other piece. I have a 32 as well & just wanted to know how sturdy it is like that
@@earthscraper69 did you have to bungee it when you drive? That will eliminate me having to buy a aftermarket mount to mount to that mount🤔. I appreciate the answer & i enjoyrd the video. These are decent trucks💯
@@earthscraper69 yes it helps a lot I'm about to buy my own truck, ISX 15 is a good engine? Automatic, manual? All i pull is no more than 40 k on the trailer what should be a good truck, engine for me? Advice??
@@NomadicSociety well ..... um ..... yeah about that .... lol I had a Volvo for 4 years went 10k in debt and was looking for an open Volvo dealer for most of the 4 years. I didn't have a good experience with them.
It sucks big-time, I was right in turning it down and choosing the freightliner, another thing I would've hated is the floor that lump separates sleeper, another thing is the one I rejected was stretched long space between 5th wheel and sleeper. This freightliner is ok but T680 had better switches etc in sleeper like USB ports and lighting was better too and also had built in power inverter with outlets like your house to plug in coffee pot electric crackpot etc. Freightliner has fridge and roomier to exercise lift tricep curls etc. All trucks storage doors rattle or don't stay closed. Freightliner tv area too small but I'll be improvising. Dude you need to ask for another truck you definitely ain't comfortable nor happy just trying to make the best of it but really I think somebody else rejected it after going through what you're going through.
My 16 year old XL LOOK BEETER DRIVES BETTER SOUNDS BETTER THESE NEW TRUCKS ARE AUTOMATIC TRASH AS IN SOON AS YOU LEAVE THE DEALER THEY ARE AUTOMATICALLY NOTHING BUT PLASTIC JUNK.
