So here it is everyone we got some snow and ice so now we can test out the 2019 Ram Rebel in some winter conditions and see how the locking rear axle compares to one without. Also we are on the trail for the next mod so lets pick out some wheels on this beast. Enjoy..

I don’t have axle lock (didn’t need it since I don’t off road) but I do have 4wd auto and a limited slip and works amazingly well on ice and snow! I can literally put my foot down and still feel like I’m in control I love it. Tires make the biggest difference though.

Yep! Just what I needed to see. We got 7 inches of snow here in WV and I couldn’t go anywhere with my 2WD ‘10 GMC Sierra. I so cannot wait to get my Rebel! And decided to go with the Ram Boxes.. Great video!

I have dedicated snow tires and they slide all over the ice softer compound helps but only way to get any deccent traction on ice you need studded tires

Cool video brother, when I was shopping for my 2019 Ram 1500 Longhorn the locking rear axle was a must have for me. I don't know what to think about the 285/45/22 though, I haven't taken it off road yet...I guess Ill find out at my next fishing trip, there's some nice off roading at the honey hole...

Out here in Winnipeg Canada were hitting -23 to -30. Snow and cold. My Ram didn’t freeze up yet. Everything opens and starts without plugging it in. 4x4 is a must at times. Keep up the vids and love that Borla sound.

Not sure your taste in wheels, however for my Rebel I'm going with the Method all black wheels and going to 35x12.50 tires, Toyo Open Country RT's to be exact. Keeping the 18" diameter though. The 20" and bigger wheels look silly to me and the loss in sidewall doesn't soak up the bumps as easily. That and there are those times when needing to drop air pressure is handy where I live and go off-road/hunting.

Yup, I ordered the axle lock on my Limited. Love it... By the way, check your sway bar on the front end.

The locking rear axle is an option on the other trim levels also, I have it on my Laramie and agree that it is and can be useful.

Love that exhaust!!!! I have had Rockstar rims on two of my trucks including the truck I own now. I paired the rims with Nitto Ridge Grapplers and I have been very happy with how the tires performed .

I live out in the West, more Raptor country when it comes to off-roading, with large open desert, hard pack with sand. We can get away with staying on 2WD assuming you have A/T tires and a locker. Though I can see how ice it likely won't work with just 2WD.

You have to keep giving gas slowly increasing to make the electronic nit spin work. It seems counterintuitive, but it will spin both wheels in a posi sort of way if you do. Not as good as a lock, but it will work, it just takes a bit of patience.

When I was shopping for my 2019 Ram 1500 longhorn, the locking differential was a must have. I have Toyo open country AT3, size 305/45/22 on it and LOVE my truck even more now, it also has air ride suspension. ABSOLUTELY perfect with no problems. It looks AWESOME also. Good video brother. 👍😎👍

I typically use my axle locks on my jeep for climbing in extreme vertical I have used them when 4--wd isnt enough to keep going in deep snow or mud, just kick them on and you take right off. Keep in mid they will limit your ability to turn.

Unless you’re studded, it really doesn’t matter what you have on glare ice. But once you get into actual snow, I assure you will be way happier with the Duratracs over the sock Laramie tires!

You should check out Falken Wildpeak's for your tire selection. I just put a set on my '07 Ram 1500 and they are awesome in all types of weather. Love your channel BTW

2 wheel locked almost got you out in the yard. I thought when it went forward at first the Rebel was going to crawl out. Looks like it does better than the Laramie. 👍🤜 The Laramie didn't seem to do so hot last winter.

Very nice truck. I have a 17 Ram 4x4 with the limited slip and have been thinking of getting a 20 Rebel. However, I actually like the limited slip and 4x4 auto mode for more real world situations. Not sure a locker would realistically be as useful.

Had a 88 ford aerostar with 5 speed floor manual tranny,and a factory locker diff...don't remember ever getting stuck and no noticeable everyday driving issues ...only problem encountered was van had issues turning on ice ..wanted to go straight ...now have 2001 Econo....open diff..hate it !!!!trying to find a eono lunchbox locker...can't afford 4x4 conversion...

I would suggest a set of Fuel Assault (D576) 20X10 with a -18 offset. Pair them with the Open Toyo country AT2 33X12.5R20T. I have set on my 2018 Silverado and love them. The Toyo tires are a lot quieter than the Nitto Ridge Grappler IMO. I also have a 2" lift on the front suspension.

The e-locker is limited to a certain MPH I believe, which is why I opted for the anti-spin differential which is better for overall road use, where the e-locker is best for offroading. I almost chose the off-road package because of the elocker until I learned about the speed restriction.

Yeah I really only need it a slow speed I had the limited slip in my last Ram it didn't seem to be that helpful on the ice

@@HammerdownMotorsportsUSA I have yet to drive mine in the snow. Had it about a 2 weeks now, but as you know, Berks County really hasn't gotten a significant snow storm yet. Hoping it performs decent in the snow, however I'm sure these stock tires will suck. I had Falken Wildpeaks A/T which seemed pretty good.

The Rebel doesn't have AWD like I had on the Laramie and I would miss that in a snowy climate. Since there's no snow here I guess swapping out the 1500 Laramie for a 2020 Power Wagon is okay as it doesn't have AWD either.

Had an Elocker in my F150. Useless in the snow. 2wd letting the traction control do it's thing worked way better than 2wd locked.

Do you feel not having 4 wheel auto is problem on the roads? can’t lock axels or put 4 wheel lock without putting strain on the system

what ever you get, go satin black wheel.with 35' inch tires. lift the Bitch ,,, 1.5 in the back and 2.0 in the front , are you on air susp ? , if so , then maybe not, on my 2020 i went with the anti spin rear, 392 gear

Check your spare tire and make sure it is cranked up tight and not bumping off the underside..

Hammerdown Motorsports a guy on one of the forums said to lay on the ground and get your bench press on. Push like hell on everything underneath. I think he said he got his cab to clunk, another said they found they had bad tierod by doing that.

Use Royal Purple gear oil in your diffs and do not add friction modifier. Your clunk will magically go away.

Quick question… I am looking at the Rebel and the Laramie with the off-road package. I’ve been told the Rebel does not get the advertised fuel economy… in your experience, does the laramie get any better?

Laramie did 16.5 mpg mixed Rebel does probably 12.5-13 with lift and tired

In the scenerio we just watched, the anti spin differential option (clutch based limited slip) would have done just as well as the axle lock. In fact, when you hit it before you locked the diff (6:21), even with the open differential (trucks with axle lock are an open differential, then you manually lock them, NOT limited slip) you had both wheels spinning since the traction was roughly equal between both wheels. We only saw it for a split second but it was there. 6:21 With the limited slip diff (anti spin) 9 times out of 10 you're gonna spin both wheels, cause the clutches can push 3x the torque to the wheel with more traction. (The axle lock can send infinite torque to the wheel with most traction) Most guys see the axle lock, and think they gotta have it, but the anti spin (good old clutch based limited slip) is likely the best option for 90% of us and is a VERY desireable option. When you take off for the grocery store up a hill in the rain, axle lock is NOT going to be on to help you unless you engage it, which you can't use on paved roads. On a paved road, the limited slip (anti spin) automaticly prevents one wheel peel and puts traction to both tires.

I’d rather have a rear locker than not but for winter driving you need dedicated winter tires. Not ATs or Mud and Snows. A proper winter tire would handle all that easily. I’m in Canada. I switch to winters in November and I’ve never come close to getting stuck. I have an awd car. Great winter traction with proper tires.

I don't think there are any aftermarket wheels that look better than the Rebel wheels. Most aftermarket wheels make me cringe.

I completely disagree, these duratracs are absolute garbage. My daughters mini cooper has better traction in the winter. My oilfield trucks are doing excellent with the off name tires Ive been buying for them. I wont be putting Duratracs back on this truck or any other of my trucks

Gotcha thank you! My 2018 rebel has the toyo and are pretty good .Heard those new Goodyear were pretty good but gotta day when I replace mine they will be bf Goodrich At 2.Had those on 3 trucks and sweat by them.GOD Bless you and your family and happy new year.Appreciate what you do👍

The clunk is your sway bar end links. I have same truck with same problem. Dealer replacing mine tomorrow. I have 5000 miles on my truck and have had clunking since 3000 miles.
