I was told by the significant other to start getting sensible in my old age and stop buying V8 cars. So I bought my Skoda Superb Sportline Estate just over a year ago. It’s been a brilliant workhorse, very user friendly and as cheap as chips to run and maintain. I really wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it’s been to be honest and I’ve grown quite fond of it. Never thought that I would say that about a Skoda. But honestly, if you can get over the badge, it’s a great car.

We had one of these (6sp man diesel) as a rental from Eurocar in Germany. Being from the US, it was my first experience with Skoda, and thinking back to the Soviet era, I had expected something not so nice or finished. I was pleasantly surprised. It's not super luxurious, using a lot of hard plastics, but it is nice enough for the price point, large and functional. We fit 5 adults (two big guys over 6'4"and 2 average sized women plus teen) in it with all our luggage, which was 5 large suitcases and carry-ons. The back seat was a bit tight for the 3 ladies, but they managed an 8 hour stint ok and it took some tetrising and removal of the luggage cover to get all the suitcases in back. It cruised pretty easily at 180k on the autobahn, handled the Alps decently if not sporty and got good fuel mileage. Infotainment was easy to set and use, and really helpful in a foreign country. It's not fast by any means and the clutch engagement is a bit vague, but it was comfortable and easy enough to drive once I got used to it.

A serious contender. I just wish we got the Scout version. I tried a Merc E All Terrain .... overall very disappointing considering the price .... although 400d engine is a triumph .... proper welly when you want it and 55 mpg when you don''t

Would anyone here buy the Passat instead ? looks to be about 3k more for equivalent spec. Is it quieter ? ride any better ?

Would love one, but something that really bugs me - the infotainment is so low down, you really have to take your eyes off the road to see the nav. Dumb reason not to buy a car?

The quality feels super high? "Luxury" kit? Standard equipment being a Skoda trademark? And not a single word of critique. You must have forgotten to tag this as "sponsored". I mean clearly you did, that car is on Czech plates and it's recorded abroad, so it was almost certainly a trip paid for by Skoda.
