I own one, and have to say, that I really like design of exterior and interior. Inside, must say it is simple, but easy to use and all function well. When we talk about grille... I just love it. I am one out of very few. Actually came to buy Vitara, but when I saw S Cross in reality, have changed my mind in a minute.

I also like that beautiful grille. Loved this car from the first sight.

I bought one 6 months ago. I like the grill also. Overall a great car at a great price. I would prefer some better materials on the inside but still it is functional, well built and very comfortable. Much better choice than a qashkai in my opinion.

That's what happened to me. Went for the vitara, saw this and bought this instead.

Not really a looker, but a damn good car that makes you forget about the quite odd design, particularly the grill. That little Suzuki's gonna be my next new car, but with a front-wheel drive since I don't really need all-wheel. The 1.4 l engine is a smooth and fuel-efficient little power house and goes excellently with the 6-speed manual transmission. Very good value for the money for people who prefer substance over design or famous names.

Eric Mustardman Well said mate. Fancy badges are a waste of money and not reliable enough. German cars are not long term long lasting motors unless you want to spend all your money maintaining them.

@@oddities-whatnot I just don't feel like giving those sneaky bastards my hard-earned money. I've never felt tempted to buy a German car, particularly not since it was discovered in 2015 that VW and many other German car makers were cheating their customers the world over with their dirty diesel engines. How can you trust a car maker that screws over millions of customers and then just shrugs it off and pretends that nothing's ever happend? Besides, I've had two Japanese cars, both Toyota, a Carina sedan 1.6, which I drove from 1994 till 2006 without any major issues and an Avensis estate 1.8, which I've been using since I sold my old Carina and which hasn't given me any real headaches either. So that's more than a quarter of a century with just two cars, more than 300,000 miles with just one faulty clutch (Carina, after 122,000 mi) and a disrupted drive shaft (Avensis, due to corrosion after 118,000 mi) apart from the regular maintenance intervals, oil, filters, brake discs and pads and other wear and tear. Sometimes it's just good when cars are boring. ;-) Probably by autumn this year or spring next year, I'll get the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross 1.4.

I test drove one of these 1.4 turbo manual. Bloody rocket ship if want it to be. Smooth and refined and very well equipped. Sunroof, cruise and heated seats. No competition imo

A very underrated car but not exactly a looker. It will be very reliable though.

My mother in law had the little suzuki wagon thing. We kind of laughed at it a bit. Well that car is still zooming about with a new owner, many years later. It looks exactly the same, not rusty at all. They are a bit cheap but if you want basic reliable transport that keeps going....look no further.

AllGrip works just as good as the true 4X4 Grand Vitara I traded on it. Towing loaded trailer on wet grass with some mud. Tried to get it stuck in a foot of snow last winter, it did OK on road tyres. Yeah it is a bit boring & gutless with the M16A petrol motor & 6 speed auto. This is the only config we have in NZ if you want AllGrip. The grille seems to annoy some but I can`t see it from behind the wheel, does not bother me.

Was looking at Vitara but slowly coming around to S Cross. Test drove new Vitara but may take this for a spin. seems plenty good value all things considered.

Difficult to make a choice between mention SUV’s. Quashqai, terrible reliability owner reviews, gutless petrol 1.2 and undesirable noisy CVT, good quality interior materials though.Toyota CH R same problem as Quashqai with auto CVT but will be reliable and has a quality interior. Suzuki ticks all the boxes if you can except hard plastics and American style grill. The 1.4 turbo petrol and conventional auto are a great combination and are a surprisingly quick and smooth combination.

A decent and generally helpful run-through of the Suzuki S Cross 1.0 features. For once on a youtube video, there is a young reviewer who is not quirky and offbeat who overworks the I'm trying so hard to entertain you style of patter. This reviewer is pleasantly understated in his delivery though the review is on the thin side with not much said about the car an interested party would not already know or suspect and the build and practicality of the bodywork are pretty much passed over as are running costs depreciation and reliability questions. However, though far from the best youtube review I've ever seen is was in general useful.

I own one with the m15a engine (110hp) and love the car, the only option package we get is the top package, but no allgrip. I would have gladly paid more to get the allgrip version.

Dont be fooled into thinking the Qashqai is a better quality product. It has a very average reputation for reliability and build quality. Too much Renault tech. This S Cross meanwhile was rated very highly in What Car's 2018 JD power survey. Would rather spend my money on this. The most obvious products are not automatically the best choice.

A very thourgh and honest review of the car, as always you tell it as you see it.Something i like when watching your reviews. Ive had a fair amount of cars in my time, and purchased quite a few Toyota cars during that time.In fact i know it seems crazy, but i bought 3 cars in the same year.As that's how i felt at the time. But i can honestly say that ive never ever given thought to purchasing a Sazuki car. But having watched and listened very carefully to your assesment of the car, i may go and test drive either the Sx4 Cross, or the Vitara.Maybe you could give me some guidence re the performance of the latter. Thanks in advance.

I have the 2017 model as featured here. Sz5, automatic alldrive. I'm driving : 6 speed auto torque converter, reactive cruise control, alldrive, leather seats etc top spec. Am I bothered what the grille looks like not in the slightest.

These cars, even in base trim are, understatedly, really well equipped, reliable and drive well, even the 1.0L Turbo pulls surprisingly well, smooth power delivery, great mpg etc. The issue with the 'wheels' (as mentioned by the reviewer) is, I'd suggest the tyres (often Continental Eco Contacts, IMHO a mediocre tyre, fitted to far too many new cars, an OEM deal I'm deeply suspicious of!). Most vehicles are now fitted with similar tyres for 'better fuel economy'. The grip on such, in poor weather (light snow, slush, ice etc) is abysmal (little or no cross grip) as is their braking distance performance in the wet. I'd rather have a few less mpg and more grip/better safety. If it wasn't for Continental making minor improvements and the cost, I'd bin such and purchase all weather tyres from day one - especially on modern cars, which are often high revving and often lack torque (the S Cross' engines seem to over come most of those issues which does compensate for the tyres somewhat, especially on the 4WD version, but Suzuki are missing a trick fitting Continental's as they limit the car's full potential). Even on the 2WD version of the S Cross a decent all climate tyre would transform the vehicle. Products such as Michelin Cross Climate, or Falken All Season tyres would help tremendously. We have used both types of tyre on other vehicles and even when expensive 4WD big brands have gotten stuck in light to moderate snow, our tyres have seen us through, on a 'budget' 2WD vehicle. A decent set of tyres on a S-Cross, for most people negates the need for 4WD most of the time. The S Cross is an excellent car, and now an open secret in terms of value, reliability, comfort, spec etc.

I somehow quite like it because it looks somehow refreshingly less agressive than most other competitors. I would actually consider having the S-Cross, however in Finland it costs over 30 000 Eur as new which makes it less competitive on the Finnish market.

A friend has one, I think it’s not a bad looking car and economical, but I would never buy one. I am a six footer and the seats never fail to give me backache, front or back on a long run. To me it’s like sitting on a bench, no support whatsoever. Maybe I am spoiled by Volvo and BMW seats!!. The ride quality is crashy over rough roads and I think the visibility is awful. They must be better mini SUV s out there.

I will be buying a new Suzuki soon but it will probably be the Vitara S. I would like it to be this S Cross but I cant bring myself to like that radiator grill I think its awful and ruins the car which is a shame as it ticks all the other boxes for me.
@EricMustardman
@EricMustardman 5 лет назад
@Beorn: Good thing that you don't see the grill while you're behind the steering wheel. ;-) You might do it like the Rolling Stones and "Paint it black." Probably gives it a much cooler look.

Great review. I don't think I'd want to pay £25k for a car with that interior. The Qashqai just seems a bit more plush. But Suzukis are super-reliable.

This car is a miracle. It manages to be hideously ugly while being intolerably boring. It looks like it was designed by people who are dead inside for people who are dead inside. Microsoft - 'intel inside'. Suzuki S Cross - 'dead inside'.
