@@automotivetv9861 this gen 5 series is IMO the best in terms of looks and interior. The newest gen has no physical buttons anymore, and essentially is the same size as the previous gen 7 series (this usually happens). This is the sweet spot. My dad has had a 540i xdrive since 2018, no known issues/flaws.
@@DMCarReviews Good review btw...If it performs like my X50e it will be pretty amazing. For one in electric only mode it is quieter than a rolls royce...The power is pretty epic from the battery combined with the engine. Lastly the gas savings is pretty substantial. The 550e will likely be faster...My X50e is close to this car and it's heavier i believe. Good review btw
@@pete64041 Thank you! Yes, the 550e will be at least just as quick, if not quicker than the M550i. Same powertrain as the 50e, just 1000+ lbs less of weight.
Such a shame. Unfortunately, governments are going to ruin the car enthusiast world. I already find myself not interested in so many new cars coming out, especially the turbo 4s. Can't fathom how 60k cars sound like tin cans. Ridiculous.
Cannot agree here with the "response" statement. Responsive was my previous Audi S4 B8.5 with a supercharger. Now I have this BMW M550i and, man, there is massive turbo lag. In Sport Plus it is not that annoying as revs are staying high, but in comfort - very unpredictable ride. The car and accelerator pedal in comfort mode are completely disconnected. There is a noticeable delay of 2 seconds before anything happens. So I often either stall for 2 seconds or suddenly jump off a junction with too much speed.... Thats is not great about this car and something to consider for people coming from NA or compressor engines. THERE IS LARGE TURBO LAG. And you need to plan your acceleration well ahead...just like on my 2008 1.8 Hoda Civic Automatic.. haha
Having owned an Audi S5 Sportback B9.5, and having driven tons of RS5's, S4/S5's (as you can see on my channel), I don't think Audi's can be said to be super "responsive". They have tons of lag off the line, and sometimes from speed too. Dynamic mode does help out with taking away some lag when already at speed, but off the line lag is still there. I did not notice any lag in the BMW, and the response was very predictable and good. Sport+ was amazing, to say the least. Every BMW that I have driven has had great response and tuning. It is normal for comfort mode to be dulled down. That is why you have to ease into the throttle and let it build speed gradually.
@@DMCarReviews B9 Audis all have turbos. S4/S5 have single turbo. RS cars have two turbos. Never drove those and assume they also have turbo lags. I am talking about 3.0L supercharged B8.5 S4 From 2012. I don't think you have it on your channel. I also drove F90 M5 and same turbo lag there as on M550. Of course compared to Audi SC. May be compared to other turbocharged cars BMWs somehow better, but nowhere near the response of the supercharger, trust me :)
@@PavloRiabchuk I've driven the 3.0T Supercharged cars. They do have better off the line response than their turbo counterparts, but they are still slower than all their newer turbo counterparts by the times. Drive the new M340i, and when you floor it off the line, there is zero lag. It just rockets out, and off idle you can do a 4.5s 0-60 run with no launch. I think BMW did an outstanding job of removing any lag there is.
@@DMCarReviews I am talking about responsiveness, not power, not acceleration rate. Responsiveness is a reaction time on control input. If I floor M550 and s4 while idling at a traffic light - m550 will take longer to start accelerating at maximum rate. But once it gets the boost it will be of course accelerating faster, due to much higher power to weight.
I have a video of an X5 M50i. Most new ones are power limited till 400 miles, so I can't even do a proper 0-60 on them. I'd have to find a slightly used ones (most of which are M50i's), but I'll try to find one sometime. I have driven the X6 M60i, and it's an incredible car.
I think you should buy this car for yourself. You seemed very much pleased with everything that this car had to offer. Looked well kept. I wonder what the underbody of the car looked like since it’s originally from New York. Got to love Frederick MD, and I70.
I did 3.8 seconds with launch control, but I'm sure the new 540i can also do it around 4 seconds too. The upcoming 550e will definitely be a sub 4 second car.
this or the f90 are my dream car daily, so fast but they look so classy and practical, i think this is the best looking modern sedan, its a shame they dont make them anymore
Yeah, 0-60 wise they are really close, especially when no launch control is used. The difference is very minimal, and the X5 50e has a much quicker start and no lag/delay as the V8 does. The only place where this car is even better is after 80, but it becomes pretty irrelevant past 100mph. I'm sure the 550e will be just as fast, if not faster.
Great idea! I'd definitely be down to film one. I've driven them before, and they are really good. I remember I did 0-60 in 4.7 seconds from launch control on an almost 100 degree day. It pulled so good.
@@DMCarReviews Nice! I was looking at a few used LCI 540s and the RWD is cheaper than AWD by $6-7k which is crazy lol, just a bummer that no one ever reviews the RWD ones
I have a stock 2020 and 3.6 to 3.7 to 60. ..luxury rocket I love it. Mine has no turbo lag. I read somewhere that BMW fixed that problem in newer 2020's.
