The hybrid all the way, unfortunately in the USA the 2 liter 180hp is not available, i just bought one and it makes a lot of sense, it is a real gas killer.
We recently bought a 2020 hybrid and couldn't be more happier! We love the new style both inside and outside. What's most impressive is the overall gas mileage which is over 50 mph and the smooth ride that easily tops any compact car I've driven. The engine performance in the normal drive mode is adequate and the power drive mode gives you much more power which we use frequently especially on the freeway.
Corolla Hybrids gonna win the compact sedan market. Not everyone out there is looking for a sporty car. Majority of the entry level buyers want a point A to B efficient reliable commuter. So toyota offer this now. This will be my next car
Thanks for the comparison ToyotaJeff! I've been in my new 2020 #CorollaHybrid for 2 weeks. It is SO FREAKING AWESOME! After a good wax, my 70-mile daily highway commute is averaging around 65 MPG. Don't forget to point out the Fuselage Vortex Generators at the base of the A-Pillars, the Tail Light Covers, and the inside of the Side Mirror Fairings! @Toyota brought real aerodynamics to the party!
Great comparison of these cars ! Thank you . I think I would buy the hybrid even though I only drive about 5 thousand miles a year . Made in Japan , trust the transmission more than the CVT and less trips to the gas station .
@@cliffords2315 Both great cars but many valid points to make on a hybrid. I think you explained your stance... jerk... sorry you feel that way... summarized yourself... racist card perhaps (making assumptions like you given your name)? Japan has proven itself in overall production reliability and manufacturing.
Yes, the Hybrid is more money, but at current fuel prices, and with the average yearly commuting distance of 20,000 miles per year, the Hybrid saves enough money in 3 years to make up for its extra price. After that, all savings go right into your pocket $$$$$$$$.
It's because Cali decided they needed their own special blend of gasoline. I'm paying $2.20/g as of this morning in KY. I'd still buy the hybrid because of the monster mileage.
Hybrid. No doubt. However at 24 K I would step into the Prius se due to more standard features. And I like the hatch design more. But that extra two gallons in the Corolla is tempting. Also are you going to do a walk around with the RAV4 hybrid when your dealership gets one?
I’m not even here for the cars anymore, I’m here to here his jokes and funny comments but I am interested in the hybrid so thank you for convincing me to get it.
Hybrid.Nice they put the better instrument cluster in the hybrid it just needs a leather steering wheel as well .Can you include a bicycle in future vid to show off that specific safety feature .
Thanks to this channel I'm getting my Corolla Hybrid, thanks for the great and entertaining videos. I don't live in USA, but I would have liked to buy the car from Jeff's dealership just to meet him in person.
Watching from Canada another good video on explaining things in practical terms for the motorist to understand. William Weaver also explains in the comments about the 50000 watt electric motors equivalent to 67 horsepower on top of the 121 horsepower ICE to give performance in power mode. I think the thing that makes people think they are gutless is the 121 horsepower rating but forget the electric power is 100 % instant with no lag which from personal experience in taxi's is pretty peppy off the line, not a corvette but easily able to keep up with traffic and merge on highways. I read awhile back that Toyota globally has the hybrid synergy drive in over 5 million vehicles and been available since 1997. It is funny that people who don't own them who think it is new technology and not proven or expensive don't realize it has been around for over 20 years.
WOW! A superb, very detailed video..really! Some of the things you point out nobody else has (and I've watched several review videos). Some of those details people normally don't ask about or realize until they get the vehicle home. We rented a XSE just last week during vacation. Really enjoyed the vehicle (except for the road noise, presumably due to the type of tires). I would imagine there are just a few differences between the LE and the XSE. Would you care to comment on that? Other reviews hinted that Android integration (instead of ONLY Apple) may come later...have any inside scoop on that?
Picking up my Hybrid on Thursday.... White with grey interior. Hearing some are getting over 60mpg!! Anyone drive in snow? Will it need winter tires like the Prius did?
I love your videos man! I'm looking for my first car to be a Toyota, and I'm looking for a fuel efficient car to navigate my way around Houston to go go college and your videos are very informative and helpful! :)
24000 miles (my yearly mileage) / 37 mpg (that is what i get on current gas non-hybrid Corolla) x $2.80 per gallon = $1816.21 per year 24000 miles (my yearly mileage) / 53 mpg (hybrid Corolla) x $2.80 per gallon = $1267.92 per year Gasoline price savings per year of hybrid = $548.28 Hybrid cost to purchase is $3000 more, so it would be 5 1/2 years ($3000 / $548.28 = 5.47) to recoup the original additional hybrid costs. Hmmmmm. Not sure how good a deal that is for me. Maybe I would get better than 53 mpg on hybrid, since I get better than average mileage on current 2011 gas-only Corolla (I do a lot of highway driving). Still not sure if I am sold.
I have to agree with your maths, just one thing people are not considering is the depreciation values. I have a yaris hybrid and bought it for £11,400 20 months ago done 12,000 mile and it's current market value is still £10,000 -£10 250. equivalent non hybrids have dropped over double in value of that of the hybrid, incredible.
I’m getting the hybrid because I don’t trust the reliability of the regular CVT In the non hybrid. Anyone concerned with reliability should never, ever buy a regular CVT transmission from any brand, even Toyota.
Wow, you're pretty much the best car reviewer I have seen! I have a question though, if any can answer this: can the Corolla Hybrid utilize the app features such as remote start, diagnostics/status, "engine lock" (when someone steals the car and you stop it with the app), gps tracking, etc? And also, does anyone know if the Prius 2018-2020 have ac vents on the back seats? I've seen a photo where it looks like the back seats have an air vent on their sides 🤔
Jeff, of the two I would go with the hybrid, but that's cause right now I'm looking for fuel economy. Two quick questions if you don't mind. Did I hear correctly that the hybrid actually had less HP? Also, is it possible for you to do a similar video comparing the 2019 Camry, gas vs hybrid? Thanks.
Hi, James! I've been driving my 2020 #CorollaHybrid for its first 1400 miles. The 1.8L ICE has less HP than the 1.8L ICE in my 2011 Corolla LE. The specs are 121 HP for the Hybrid and 139 - 169 HP for the non-hybrid, depending on trim. The Hybrid has three (3) horsepower sources, one 1.8L Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and two (2) Electric Motors providing a total of 50,000 Watts of power. With conversion, that is 67 HP. In "Power" (PWR) mode, the Corolla Hybrid uses both the ICE and the Electric Motors to get off the line. 121 + 67 = 188 Total HP. This thing is way jumpier off the line than my 2011 LE ever was... =]
I wouldnt worry too much about one of the two cars having a little less horsepower... my 81 rabbit diesel has just over 50 horsepower, and buzzes down the road just fine! I cant imagine what I'd do with a whopping 120 horsepower (or even higher)
Depends, do you want hundreds of thousands of miles of reliability, or better fuel economy? I'll take the reliability. 38 mpg is pretty amazing for a simple sedan already.
Can you add to that- is there concern that a hybrid would not last as long as a non-hybrid Corolla? I would have assumed both would last incredibly long?
I have a 2021 hybrid,it has a lithium ion battery as per stcker under hood and vin and the fuel tank is 11.2 not 13.2 seems the hybrid has a smaller tank.
@@shujayethossain6554 during the summer I often get 55 to 60 mpg..… I'm always in Eco mode which contributes a lot to my great mpg. BTW I drive a 2019 Honda Insight. I love Toyotas also so I'm not a fan boy like some folks call me some times because of my youtube name lol.
@@brycefujimoto8023 5 months ago I traded my Honda Insight for a Rav4 XSE hybrid. I've had no problems at all with it...... runs like a charm. What problems did you hear about the Rav4 hybrid?
Tell your friends at Toyota HQ to sell the Corolla hybrid wagon in North America. Why is Toyota so afraid of giving us something more practical than a sedan. Look, Mazda sells only a tiny amount of Miata MX5, but they still make and sell them. Even if only 5000 wagons were sold in NA, that's still 5000 more than if they don't sell it. The 86 & FR-S only sold a combined 4133 in 2018 in North America, and will sell even less in 2019. Don't tell us there is no market for a hybrid wagon; if they were on the dealer lot they would sell because they have no competition and not everyone wants, needs or wishes to pay for a SUV like the RAV4. I am sure you would be a good salesman for the hybrid wagon. I have nothing against sedans, but a wagon offers a lot more usable cargo capacity. Corolla keeps getting better every year, no wonder it is the best selling car of all time.
Too bad it doesn't have Android Auto. I have seen Toyota Australia will install Android Auto on the 2019 Toyota RAV4, and Corolla hatchback. There's hope then for the US models. That's what stopping me from getting a 2020 Toyota Corolla.
You have made a video exactly what I was wondering about... the diff between Corolla and Corolla hybrid, and is it worth it? Great minds think alike!👍👍
Hey Jeff! I was at your dealer yesterday looking for a Corolla but you guys didn’t have any. I was looking for someone named Tim- my uncle bought from him before, but Tim was off. Can I call you?
The problem with hybrids is that as they get older, they are very expensive to fix. Also not just any mechanic can work on them like you can with gasoline engines. I'll stick with the regular cars for now.
speed meter only has limit of 160 km my lancer has 220 limit and it goes easily 210+ and it goes further too but speed camera comes ahead so can check how far it goes .
It isn't 160 km/h, it's 160 mph which is around 260 km/h. The highest number on the speedometer has nothing to do with the actual top speed. The speedo in my BMW reaches up to 260 yet top speed is 225. The cheapest VW Polo will have a 240 km/h speedo but it won't go faster than probably 170. This Corolla Hybrid however has a limited top speed of 180 km/h.
@@dimitermarchev9040 For a modern car, the Corolla offers very good visibility so there is no reason blind spots should be a major problem. In general Toyota's safety features are miles ahead of their competitors.
Right Lane Hog, Toyota safety sense 2.0 is a good safety system; however, if I buy a new Corolla hybrid and spend $25K, I would like to have a blind spot monitor system as well! Toyota offers blind spot monitor AND rear cross traffic alert for $600 on Toyota Camry Hybrid LE as an option, so not having blind spot monitor (without rear cross traffic alert) is just an excuse to ask people to go and buy a Prius. It is not right. On the other hand, if you want to buy a 2019 Prius, you are left on the side of the road scratching your head why they did not add the new safety sense 2.0 with the middle cycle refresh?! Why did they left the infotainment screen for the radio only 6.1 inches when they sale 7 inch screen on 2018 models? Yes, you can have 11.6 inches screen in the limited model, but this screen/display is not a very good option because it combines controls for A/C system. So, let’s say you have the car for 6-7 years and this screen/display stops working? You will be faced with huge expense of replacing it because you will not be able to run A/C system otherwise. Prius/Corolla are amazing cars, but buying a car is an investment for many people, so they want to have all safety features that are available at the moment on the market!
Corolla Hybrid hands down. It has more features, feels more luxurious, and has the ability to save you far more money in fuel costs than its ICE counterpart. Here in Vancouver, BC, fuel is creeping towards 1.75/litre at the pump.
I hate that Toyota uses Siri Voice, I would like to use Google Assistant which is better than Apple Siri. I hate that Toyota has refused to support Android Auto which it's competitor has.
It's going to be a pain in the ass to charge my phone since the socket and even USB is inside the container box. They should have kept those in the front! What the hell Toyota!
There is a 2.1 Amp USB socket in the lower dash, next to the phone tray in front of the transmission selector. It charges and also connects to the head unit via USB to your phone. There is a 3.5 mm mini RCA socket below it for legacy AUX audio. There is another 2.1 Amp USB socket in the container box with pass through notches for your passenger. It is right next to the traditional 12V "Cigarette Lighter" socket for older electronics...

The 50,000 Watt Electric Motors provide a burst of 67 hp on demand in the "current gear" of the CVT without needed to up shift to get into a good torque range of the internal combustion engine. A turbo provides from 15 - 35 hp per pound of boost. So compared with an average turbo, the electric motors provide 2.7 pounds of turbo boost to get out of the way... =]
@@fctryoffetsh39 The CVT doesn't make the car any slower. It just feels slower because of the rubber band effect. The CVT always keeps the rpm's in the best range when you go pedal to the metal.
