Today I compare the 2020 Ford F-150 XLT Sport to the 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Night Edition! Ford Inventory: www.larryhmillerfordprovo.com/ Ram Inventory: www.larryhmillercjdprovo.com/
I am on my second new model RAM and I love them. I had a 2019 Bighorn off-road package and loved it.....only problem was they went and came out with the 2020 Ram Night Edition and I loved it more.....so now it is in my driveway. 🤣💪❤
I just bought a 2020 Ram Big Horn Night Edition and I absolutely love it, the interior is beautiful, spacious and very practical. Obviously I'm biased but I'd definitely recommend it.
Hey Jeff what options did u get and do I mind saying price / area ? I’m thinking of getting ran as well blackout maybe diesel tho since I’m gunna keep truck for long time so I think the extra price will pay for it self in the future and diesel fuel is 12cents cheaper in ok bc Canada 🇨🇦
Hi Ben! Good Video! I appreciate this kind of info. If I could give a little advice: Slow Down. Each truck is priced the same, equipped closely, and have the same target audience. But rushing through you missed some very important differences. Like the Auto 4WD in the Ram, that is huge for me. And the door panel that is padded along the top in the Ram. Who does not cruise along with their elbow resting on the door. That hard F-150 door has caused my elbow plenty of undue fatigue. These are a couple of the little differences in the trucks your audience would likely be seeking. I Subscribed and liked your video and will continue to watch you grow into a great auto journalist.
I agree. I rented a F-150 Lariat 4X4 for a 2 week deer hunt. I liked the looks of the Ford truck exterior better, but Ram had much better road manners (ride quality), and the Ram's interior was far better in my opinion. That chime Ford uses also drives me nuts. As for the 3.5 ecoBoost, I'm a 50+ year old man and drive very conservative. I never found any "Eco(nomy)" in the ecoBoost. It is very powerful, but not economical. All the reviews make the 10-speed sound like an improvement. I didn't care for the constant shifting. I then spent 10 days with the Chevy Silverado LT2 4X4 for my next hunt. And, honestly, there was only 2 things I liked: 1) the exterior styling (with the exception of the front end grill) 2) and the fuel economy of the 5.3L ecotec3. Otherwise, I found the Chevy to be.... well, junk. I settled on the Ram and got a Rebel 4x4. I love the truck. Highway fuel economy is dismal, but with the oversize tire, 1" factory lift, the lack of a chin spoiler, and 3.92 rear gearing, I'm not surprised. My city fuel economy is good. Averaging 16.5-17mpg due to the aggressive auto start/stop of the eTorque.
Thanks for your video! I already purchased a Ram 1500 Big Horn before watching your video but still wanted to review your opinion. I was interested in the F150 but was warned by many that Ford is using a V6 and adding turbos to offer the speed and torque of a V8 but they're breaking down! One friend said after buying his F150 to buy one if you want to hang out in the service department of your dealership!?! I'm very happy with my Ram, I got the 5.7 Hemi with eTorque.
How do you like the E torque? I see it’s like a 1600$ add on. Idk if shutting off at red lights is that important to me. I worry after 60,000 miles if it breaks it may be expensive to fix.
@@Kevinw4040 I like having the etorque. It was already installed on the truck I selected so I didn't notice the additional price. I'm getting an average 17 mpg in the city and the engine's not even broken in, I'm have 3,000 miles so far. You can feel the electric power from the battery at take off. The engine kicks on before I have my foot off the brake pedal so there's no delay. Test drive a truck with and without to see the difference. Good luck.
Hey Ben, great content. Agree that the big horn is a better deal and has more features. Thoughts on doing the same big horn night edition vs a gmc elevation or Silverado rst??!! That would be very interesting
2020 Ram 1500 here. Interior is too nice. No issues 1 year into my ownership. Occasional jerky downshifts usually going from 8 to 7. And from what ive read, im not alone with the rough shifts. That is my only complaint about the Ram i have.
I bought the 2020 f-150 2.7L v6 ecoboost sport package with black 20's on it. Absolutely love it. Its very quick. Rams are nice trucks also but i prefer that twin turbo V6.
I purchased the f-150 XLT 4x4 super crew magnetic metallic with the sport package. I was so torn between the ram because I think it is the best value feature for feature. However I was not convinced with an FCA product. I love both trucks and that ram makes a very strong argument. At end of the day I trusted the ford and not the ram. I also had the ford free leather and spray in Bedliner upgrade, that didn’t hurt in making the decision.
Never a fan of ford but I have to say I traded in my 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 slt for a 2020 ford lariat 3.5 150 I really enjoy driving it it pulls my camper that’s 7,000 lbs like there’s nothing behind me I’m really impressed also I have a ton of options I enjoy driving it better than my 2020 Gls 450 Mercedes
The interior of the RAM looks so much more modern and contemporary, the F-150's is soo dated. The RAM checks more boxes I'd be interested in, and looks/sounds better, in my opinion. Even though the price and fuel economy is negligible, I'd go for the RAM, hands down. I believe you get more and better for your money.
I bought a Ford XLT, but because I wanted the 2.7L, and I was able to get it for a great price (I shopped all of them and got the best deal on the Ford). I'm not real brand loyal though, and i will say the Ram's interior is the best. Even with the cloth. I had a Ram 1500 Lariat rental for a month, and loved it. Just didn't love the gas mileage.
Love the rams look have 5 friends who bought them . Needless to say all had to have head work lifters replaced manifold fell off under 30k miles so I bought another F-150 never had an issue. I almost bought a ram they definitely stepped it up rides great but at 18k needing major engine work is why I got another F-150. All rams were stock only intake and or cat back . Rams really look good interior is sick too!
My brother has the ram i recently both a 2.7 ford f 150 dual turbo He was amazed by the power with 5 guy's in the truck . It almost knocked his socks off lol ford great rruck
I would give the RAM a try, even though Dodge trucks have historically been a reliability nightmare. I am on my 3rd F-150 in 4 years and all have had the same issues...rear window leaking, doors freezing, and vacuum actuation system failure for front hubs. Ford has had plenty of time to redesign those items but they have done nothing.
@guy proulx Ha ha, I know, right? There's a long story behind it that even I don't want to hear! LOL (luckily I haven't had to pay for any of the repairs)
Great review, definitely the black metallic ram is much more appealing in the night trim. My only complaint with the ram is that dial gear selector. NOT A FAN OF IT. Several Ford master mechanics have steered me towards the v8 in the fords, not that the EcoBoost is bad, but down the road, when they need servicing, which eventually all mechanical parts will, they are crazy expensive to work on. Plus in my area right now Ram is giving the larger discounts. I can get the 2020 black diamond bighorn/ lone star MSRP $52k for $38,900. The same priced fords are only dropped to the mid to low $40's. Great job pointing out that rear camera quality, that is a huge deal in certain circumstances. Then to show my age, the original Mad Max quote, "that sound! The last of the big V8's!" Funny how you didn't even try the Ford. Well done review young man. They could've given you a better color Ford to help, lol.
i had the tradesman ram and ended up getting a tacoma. kinda wish i kept the old ram. tacoma is way too small, i almost hate it. looking into a bigger truck again and really like the interior of the ram
F150 XLT has a better exterior appearance, Ram 1500 Bighorn has a better interior design and looks more modernized. Ram is also a little cheaper than Ford and is more fuel-efficient than Ford. But I think in the long run, Ford is more reliable than Ram so it's really hard to pick which one is better.
And just a heads up on ram owners replace your headlights and fog lights because they will go out a few weeks after purchase!! And after owning a Jeep and a ram they suck and you will have electrical issues
I bought a 2019 f150.. back in April.. mistake should have bought ram. The f150 does what I need it too but the body with the aluminum dings n dents easy. The suspension is so low to the ground that I needed a leveling kit right away and still not really high enough so I'm putting a 3.5 lift on. The ram is def better for the price n you get a hemi. If your looking into the half ton truck Market id go ram or silverado but ram has all the bells n whistles. Chevy doesn't. Hate to say I liked ford products but the aluminum body is def not good for a truck any rock that hits it. It chips the paint. Also the 3.3 or 5.0 are the only engine options I would go with the eco boost nice but if those turbos go its alot of $$$.. if your using your truck as a truck in a half ton application out of these 2 go ram.
4 year older F150 still looks just as good if not better than this Ram (basic headlights) which is Ram's newest model. I bought a 2019 F150 XLT FX4 2.7l eb. couple months ago and I did that after considering the Ram, Sierra and F150. The F150 has way more options, way better mpg, and had the best price/value. I love all three trucks but I chose the F150 for the mentioned reasons. Also, I like F150s interior even though I agree that its dated but I like the rugged look and feel for a teuck rather than a fancy one. If you want a fancy interior go get a BMW SUV or somemthing.
Lol not anymore. For the last 6 years their reliability has been better than ford according to consumers reports. The only thing great about the ford is their fleet system. Super cheap and the reason they sell so much. Certainly not for quality. Lol. Ram all day.
Wrong dodge/Ram has steadily been climbing up in reliability and sales since flat took over. Dodge just tied for 1st place in reliability surveys based off consumer reports.
iri1shman86 yes a I can assure that yes steadily they have been but it don’t take the fact it still is the one with less value NADA and honestly from working from a dealer they are the worst brand vehicles! They’re junk even the from hellcats with their screwed up superchargers and electrical issues, them new trucks can’t even get 5 months out of the dealership without having a burnt out headlight 👍🏼
@@MiguelGonzalez-lz8sg 10 years ago you could make an argument for them being the worst brand and I'd agree with you. Fast forward to today and that's not the case anymore. I wouldn't use a headlight going out as a reliability argument. Powertrain is what's more important it doesn't cost much to change a bulb. My wife's taillight went out on her 2018 chevy equinox with only 24k miles on it. Took it to the dealership and they replaced it for free no questions asked. Every brand has certain vehicles with certain Powertrain configurations that have issues. Just do your research on what configurations are better and you'll be fine.
The Ford tows more, hauls more, is faster, body won't rust...why pick the Ram when on paper the Ford does everything a person who needs a truck would want? Get the Ram if you like it and just want a truck for some reason.
I would go with the Ford it’s the best drug on the market I have three of them over 150,000 none of them give me any trouble great reliable trucks I like Dodge as well but Ford is a little bit better buy American products
A men brother have 2003,2015, 2018 f150 love them all . Dodge is getting there but don't no about quality yet ac is not as good and they went with a small heater core that stops up quickly. I'll keep my damn Fords thanks very much!!!!!!!!!
Picking up my 2021 night edition Saturday, man Ram just kills ford especially in looks...Ford trucks look awful to me, been driving ram for ages now and they're In a spot right now that is incredible
how can you compare trucks when the Ford F150 xlt sport does come in a V8 5.0 L with 395 HP and 400 Tq. Why did you not get even trucks??? Not a fare review
I just bought a 2021 ram night edition, the Ford is just to old and dated looking, my father in law bought an '18 platinum and he got in my truck and noted how much more quality the interior is in mine, Ram such a beautiful truck
I would go for the Bighorn for several reasons the biggest 2 would be the Hemi and the fact that the body is not aluminum like it is on the Ford which. means that if you needed to temporarily mount signs on the doors you can on the Ram and if you need to temporarily mound either a strobe for if you need it fir a warning device or maybe temporarily moun a communications antenna you can do so on thecRam because jagnets don’t stick to aluminum
Should be comparing a Ram 1500 Sport to a Ford F-150 Sport. However they don’t make a Ram Sport for USA, only for Canada. Ram Sport probably the most sold Ram truck in Canada. Far superior over the Ford.
F150 all the way...had both and never will get back to RAM...just fancy but not reliable...I've got F150 lariat V8 coyote...nothing better..had RAM 1500 ..get tired to go to the dealer with transmission issues..RAM never again...
VinceAlinceAble SRT I don’t think is worth the money nor will it also help that much!! The way the Rebel is set up also prevents it from being fuel efficient in my opinion, I was honestly expecting a little better but it is what it is I guess!! What I did do is get the 33gal tank option that helps mitigate this inefficiency......
Ram is not cheap, I just spec out basic model F-150XL and Ram 1500 Tradesman on their Canadian website, for 4x4 crew cap regular 3 litter V6 no other option, F150 XL $46970, Ram1500 $50785, right now F150 has $4500 incentive, bring price down to $41297 and 0% for 72 month, Ram has no incentive for Tradesman but 0% for 96 month. That's $9500 difference before tax and over $11000 after.
Make it fair need to compare with lariat. Get a hot day and see which one has better ac f150 hands down. Have to see how dodge holds up shitty quality in the past. Hate to work on them most dash boards fall apart. The engine looks like its from back in the sixties.
Lariat is to Laramie when comparing trim levels. I find it funny that my 2020 Bighorn has a lot of standard options that would usually come on a Lariat if I was shopping for a F150.
Looked at both, bought the F150 ! I've owned 2 150s I Love mine! On another note,I'm old enough that BUYING American still means something! FCA is a foreign automaker! If l were considering foreign, it would be the 2020 Nissan titan! That's a Very big IF ! Go look and drive the ram,the ford , most will like the F150, but this is America, so buy the one you prefer!
I got the 2018 f150 XLT 2.7 Ecoboost, the 10 speed is not smooth, specially when get off freeway down shift, and I did test drive different truck b4 I buying it, they are the same not smooth as most youtube said. I just got a ram bighorn rental for few weeks, the 8 speed on it is way smooth then the ford, also smooth than my 2017 Pacifica minivan even they are from same company
I own a 2019 Ram limited. Excellent truck and value. IMHO most F150 comments come from a place of blinded brand loyalty. I have had both Fords and Chevy 1/2 ton trucks in the past and right now the new 2019 Rams are superior trucks. You get a lot more bang for the buck and the interiors are in a different league, the 5.7 Hemi is a robust engine and the 8 speed transmission is responsive. I won’t even go into all the other features my Ram limited has equipped. If you test drive all the brands - the decision is easy. That’s what I did.
Idk what your talking about. The zf 8 speed is one of the best in the business and is used in applications from bmw to Audi to roles Royce and hellcats. Either you had a bad one or your thinking of the wrong truck
do a review after 60k miles then let me hear how much you all love your rams. I work at a high volume ford dealer and have driven plenty of new and old trucks from every brand. seems like every dodge i drive that is at 60k+ miles is garbage. id drive a titan over a dodge lol.
I've had Fords for over 30 years but their engineers have gotten bad. They design them as oversized luxury cars. I need a working truck so I bought a Ram
my choice comes down to one simple question...which one will a dealer give me for free. I don't care which, I just want one. without the payments. (is that too much to ask?) :-)
