MotoMan drives one of the few sedans that are nominated for World Car of the Year, the 2020 Hyundai Sonata. Yes, no one is surprised that Hyundai has made huge strides over the past 10 years but this 8th generation of Hyundai Sonata is a MUCH bigger jump than than the others generations of Hyundai Sonata previously. MotoMan drives the 2020 Hyundai Sonata as well as shows an in depth preview of the upcoming 290 HP Hyundai Sonata N Line. Of course, there is a round of our famous #OptionsGame . . . #HyundaiSonata #Hyundai

I feel like they did the "sporty" sedan design better than Toyota in a lot of ways. But that interior truly looks premium. Not to mention it's not a cvt, beautiful.

Good luck selling them. Hyundai misread the market, and likely had this in development for years not seeing the trend that American millenials like lifted wagons, crossovers, hatchbacks, and SUVs as they are just way more practical trunks.

Pretty standard today, they are all using this type of design on their vehicles and Hyundai is following suit. IMO they are also late to the game as compact sedans have fallen out of favor years ago, as crossovers and hatchbacks just offer much more useful trunks.

@@BoopSnoot Standard?? No that's not standard, it's well above standard & it's not a compact sedan. It's a large sedan. Know ur facts before you put something down. Btw....the trunk in the Sonata is quite large.

@@jameshughes6049 I was referring to the interior, watch car show videos, its the new generic standard. Its not a large sedan. @@akashcash Yeah, its the same for Japanese cars in the 70s. People bashed them, but here they are being the industry standard while American manufacturers are left to award themselves JD Power and associated awards through their selective surveying. Korean cars have passed American cars and are just about Equal to Japanese ones. My family owns 3 Hyundai motor group cars and have had 1 issue (which is really good for the industry standard of reliability if you look up the statistics of how only one brand of manufacturer has 1 issue per new car and it just gets worse as you go down the list). The hybrid battery on the 2016 sonata had a failsafe issue and Hyundai replaced the battery for free. No worries, we were taken care of thanks to their commitment to quality.

My car has a tuning knob...I NEVER use it. I listen to Spotify rather than the radio. When I used to listen to the radio/Sirius I used the presets. When I want to skip or go back on Spotify, I used the steering wheel controls. Who is using the tuning knob? One thing I think car reviewers forget that people who actual buy and drive these cars will rarely be going into all the settings menus...most features are set it and forget it.

'tuning' knobs in modern cars are not analogue pots but rather rotary encoders which are dynamically assigned to control various UX elements. It makes scrolling very easy, just to name one example. That's why it's good to have one even if you don't necessarily tune the radio.

OMG, as a 2015 2.0T Limited owner, being able to turn on the heated/cooled seats was one of my top on the wish list. I really wanted a Genesis when it came time, but that, along with better tech and features, makes it hard to justify a Genesis over the Sonata. I'm hoping they'll add more incentive to the Genesis line sooner than later.

Excellent review, I'm really happy the N-Line story will be fully revealed soon (hearing 12/9 at 12am EST ) . I also want to hear the Plug-in Hybrid story , seems like that also will be a great option and can get away from the Pano sunroof and put solar panels on the top instead. I almost never use my sun/moon roof in any car. I would prefer the extra rigidity , less to break aspect and headroom not to mention the solar panels are just cool and another first. I'm glad I think I can be very happy with the 1.6T Limited due to the low rpm torque trigger and the transmission seems sweet, The Hybrid offers excellent MPG/range and the electric makes it move too similar to the limited maybe even better in some situations. The Theta III 2.5T seems lovely hard to argue with 290/310 , I would want to drive it and the Hybrid and the Limited before I make a decision. This will likely be the car I replace my current 3.3 V6 Sonata with.

Shove the Veloster-N motor in it, give 3 pedals and make it a true sporting car that offers the drive a real sense of driving. If Mazda says "feel alive"; then Hyundai should go with "enjoy the drive". Give us some feeling , some emotion, some sense of (road) connectedness, not isolation. Will there be a wagon?

Very appealing vehicle. But I couldn't agree more about the push button transmission control. Such push buttons and equivalent dials are often justified as "saving space" but the "space" saved is minimal or non-existent and can be utilized only if one could somehow magically suspend objects in the air above the controls.

Here's an example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SXK3I9PPuH4.html . . . But the episodes that continually do well for us are BMW, Mercedes (AMG in particular) and yes, Porsche. Would love to feature more EVs or unique stuff like this (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6AgjNsCYKRk.html) that is cheap and cheerful but you guys just don't watch it or share it enough to make it financially feasible. Anyhow, love your channel, it touches on details and photos many other channel doesn't. Would love your channel to touch on this 1.6 turbo engine in details in another video perhaps?

Thank you, sir. Both engines have the same fuel delivery system, hence the name 'Smartstream' on both. The one key difference - other than output - with the 2.5 Turbo in the N is that engine does go into Atkinson Cycle at any point.

I do not see the point of the buttons to move the car back/foward. I have Hyundai Elantra that has 2 faulty keys, leave it in your pocket and there is a chance the trunk might open unwanted. I blame this on the shape of the keys and it might have been fixed already, but Ibdo not understand why Huyndai would take such a liability gamble for a feature that is probably not necessary in the US. I can see this having some US in other parts of the world were parking in tight spaces is more common, but I did not see the rear view mirrors folding automatically. Also I will need to understand more how this tech works, do you need to stand right next to the door or do you only need to be within wireless range for this to function?
@MotoManTV

Tried this from a couple of different distances and from what I experienced, one needs to be standing right near the car. Figure right at the front or right at the back is the farthest away I was able to get it to work in my time with the car. That said, it's not meant to used while you are in your kitchen making breakfast.

@@MotoManTV IF they start making exciting ICE cars again though sedan sales will climb, there are plenty of people like me waiting . There is a reason I still drive a 2006 Sonata LX , one of the last of the great solid V6's for sale at a great value. This 2020 Sonata is the first to make me "want" to upgrade if I like it in person and after a drive. 2006, 2011 and 2020 are critical years in the Sonata story line. I have a feeling 2020 will be just as solid as my 2006 coming off the Theta 2 disaster and all new platform, engines , transmission and technologies of a new assembly line in Alabama. Just like in 2006.
@BoopSnoot
@BoopSnoot 4 года назад
The top three selling vehicles in the US are trucks. Face facts, compact sedans simply aren't very practical vehicles, and the trunks are far less useful and with modern computer design aren't necessary for aerodynamics. A Rav4 can simply do so much more than this vehicle can. Snow? No problem. Flood? Fuggedaboudid. Bad roads? No problem. Camping? Done. Buying a chest freezer at Costco? It fits with seats down! Tow a motorcycle or jetskis? Absolutely.
@tombyrne6433
@tombyrne6433 4 года назад
@@BoopSnoot That again supposes one want that. In each family there is room for ONE SUV that can carry crap. The other vehicles can easily be Sedans or hot hatches. Not everyone likes trucks/vans or SUVs. Its what gets produced that sells. Lets appreciate the sedans come back .
@BoopSnoot
@BoopSnoot 4 года назад
@@tombyrne6433 Hot hatches are popular too, again because the hatchback fits way more than a sedan trunk. I have a Fiat 500T that I removed the rear seats from, installed a flat floor, and it was able to haul two boxed shop tables from Walmart in it and another trip I filled it up with 15 bags of mulch, even had the suspension sitting low. Demand drives the market, not the other way around. The sedans aren't "coming back", and I think sales numbers will prove that true next year as I doubt Hyundai will sell many of these whereas I predict the recently redesigned Ford Escape and Explorer, Chevy Tahoe and Equinox, Subaru Forester and Outback, Rav4, and the big 3 pickups will dominate. Unless there's another major middle-eastern war, with the downturn in the Chinese economy, fuel prices are likely to remain low.

Hyundai is fine if you plan on keeping for 1 to 3 years, but if your in for the long haul it will be falling a part by 36k, I bought a new 2013 Hyundai Azera Limited no major issues at first but I did have alot of issues with wheels clear coat flaking off 4 new sets of wheels in first 60k, tail lights filled with water 2 times, fog lights constantly burning out, ac vents and speedometer screen cracking from heat in summer, trim on steering wheel and dash clear coat falling off just to name a few things and by the time I hit 43k the cam phasers failed after 2 times repairing and 4 months later they put in a brand new engine ended up costing Hyundai over $12k after 2 repairs and new engine. I stuck it out for a while no issues but later had about 18k on new engine exhaust cam phaser failed I ended up trading it off. Its sad to buy a car for $37k and not even make it 4 years without major issues only worth $10k when I dumped it. I should have bought a new Camry for $27k or a Lexus ES350 for 38k drove it for 10 years and not have had a single issue. Lesson learned.

Geez! That's a bad experience. On the other hand, I have a 2013 Sonata with 103K miles on it, and it is doing great! I had a leak on something related to the AC almost a year ago, it has been fixed and no issues so far. I live in Florida and I've no problems with heat ruining the car during Summer. Something I've noticed on the road with this model is the left braking light seems to burn out on many Sonatas, replaced it two years ago and is good so far. What do you drive now?
