I review the all-new 2020 Hyundai Sonata in its fully loaded Limited trim. While this Limited is over $34,000 the Sonata has the lowest starting price of any current midsize sedan at $24,330 including destination. Like with other Hyundais, the 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty adds to the lower price to create the best value in the segment. But while many aspects of the new Sonata are much improved, it still has some shortcomings. What do you think of the new Sonata? Thanks to Hyundai for providing this opportunity!

Thats a Hyundai???? Man i remember in the 90s and early 00s when Hyundais had such bad reputation and were considered throw away cars. Theyve come a loooong way since then. Kudos.

I would have to disagree with the 00. That's when I became a Hyundai guy with the purchase if my second car, a 2001 Elantra. Gave that car to my brother a few years ago when it had 176,000 miles. Other than a few minor repairs and routine maintenance, that car has NEVER failed to turn over, or has any of the Hyundai/kia vehicles I have owned since. My very first car which was a Brand new 2000 Sebring LXI gave me nothing but problems starting around 25,000 miles, the reason I bought the Elantra. Hyundai's reliability is right up there with Honda and Toyota, yet it is Hyundai that has far surpassed them everywhere else. Hyundai is no longer following in the footsteps of Honda and Toyota, it's now Honda and Toyota who has to chase after Hyundai/kia

As an owner of a 2019 SE, this is a huge step up. I really like the looks. Even the 2020 SE is super nice. Definitely gonna think about getting one come 2021!

I think it would have done better as a hatchback or crossover. Nobody buys compact sedans anymore, the trunks just aren't as practical as a hatch.

@@seansean681 We'll see, but I don't think it'll sell more than 60K units a year. Sure, the MSRP is very low, but every Hyundai I've ever shopped you're likely to pay close to that MSRP out the door as they don't have much haggle room. By contrast, my dad picked up a Charger Scat Pack w/ 6.4 liter w/ close to 490hp and even with the upgraded suede interior and forged larger wheel package and what not was $40K out the door after taxes or about $6K off MSRP.

@@BoopSnoot I mean they must sell if they're still making them. Plus if people want SUVs or crossovers, Hyundai sells em. The Santa Fe is basically a Sonata SUV. There's still us people that don't need a tailgate over a trunk lol. Keeps my subs hidden.

@@chuckwalla2967 my wallet and phone are in one case, which I always take out prior to getting in my vehicle anyways. If it is unable to communicate through the phone wallet, then yes, it would be cumbersome.

ScopeKing1994 true, but losing my wallet/phone/key-in-one is unlikely to happen as I’m always verifying I have them. . Having them all separate I’m much more likely to lose one of them. But if I were to lose it, that would be a very, very bad day.

One of your best and most thorough reviews Matt. Thanks for the strong critique of the knee rest area and for including the ambient lighting pic. Another unique point was showing the footage of the remote start, I got to see that you can actually turn on seat heaters or ventilators from the bluelink app. That's not something that I realized you can do (and other reviewers didn't mention that). Another reason why your channel/reviews are so amazing and complete. Keep up the excellent work!

You offer one of the more thorough and thoughtful reviews of the 2020 Hyundai Sonata. Thank you ! I thought the SEL version offered 4 optional packages - Convenience, Premium, Sunroof, and Driver's Guidance. The printed materials available on the internet and some dealer listings seem to confirm this although the last time I checked out Hyundai online I didn't see the Driver's Guidance package.

Heck, you get a heated steering wheel on a standard Kia Rio or a Hyundai Accent where some car companies don't even offer it, or you need to spend nearly $40,000 on a midsize domestic or European car.

I have a 2021 SEL Plus in Calypso Red, and I've gotten more than a couple of double-takes. In the design, it's a little bit Maserati, a little bit Audi, and it looks much more expensive than it actually was. Definitely like my new car!

Very interesting how muck Korean exterior designs have become edgy and sophisticated. Also funny how the Genesis brand is not the one getting the most advanced features, not a good marketing move from Hyundai as it gives reasons for wait for the Genesis vehicles to catch up. Matt, your 1080p60 video quality puts to shame so of your fellow youtube reviewers.

It is lower than Octavia and Superb, but slightly higher than Camry and much higher than Accord. Nothing that bothers me now, but coming off an used Audi A3, it bothered me initially.

It’s a riot how the 0-60 is 8.2 seconds and the loaded car weighs 3300lb The Impala 4 CYL has 197 HP and does 0-60 in about 8 seconds and Weighs 3300lbs and almost Every Reviewer said Don’t get the 4, get the 6. I’ve had the 4 CYL.... 2 and half years and I have Never Ever thought “Oh I need more power”. Matter of fact I am usually the car off the line that is way ahead. in Very Smooth, Comfy and Quiet. I get irritaed when 99.9 % of Reviewers make the Performance and Speed priotiy but fail to mention We have a Full SIzed Almost Premium Level Car that gets 23MPG city and way over 35 HWY. The 6 cyl I test drove a year later didn’t feel as light on it’s feet so to speak. It did feel a little more powerful but you use a lot more gas. 18 City and 28 HWY. If you use Auto Start in the colder and hotter months like I do even less MPG. So, Thank You Matt for mentioning that this car has adiquate power.

I am Korean. Actually looking forward .. It is an unusual car. I didn't like seeing photos or videos at first.. Thought it was ruined But when i saw with my eyes.. It was very cool to run with a running light. I saw black one.. Honestly I was surprised. I had a shock. I felt huge force. It's a strange car. Trust me . The world's best designers are now all in Hyundai and Kia. Even still collecting like crazy..

The knee placement thing is such a miss for many interior designers. Top end trims with painful hard plastics right where you'll rest your knee is ridiculous.

The Knee Rest area upfront Really surprises me. The only thing that saves this is the After Market sells PADDED Knee pads that match interiors and not sure if they attach by Velcro or not. But at least they are out there.

As a Veloster Turbo owner, I really appreciate what they tried doing with this vehicle, but I'd much rather see these efforts go to a new Genesis Coupe (just rebranded as a Hyundai fully). It seems like they're trying so hard to make sporty fun cars but they killed off one of their best ones :(

Thanks, good review can't wait for the embargo to be lifted on the N-Line which should be 12am EST 12/9. That will set the high bar performance wise and still have a decent performance 1.6 Limited level to choose from (with all the bells and whistles) pending the Plug-in Hybrid arrival. I think the car looks fine the constant "catfish" comments are annoying (much worse vehicles).

A very, very small pet peeve of mine: it could do without the "Sonata" name on the back. Just to clean up the beautiful lines of the rear end. IMHO.

The Hard PLastic in knee area I agree this is 2020 now. Hello This is a given. However, easy fix with a aftermarket Velcro Knee Pad in so many different colors and styles. And the seat support I don’t think is a issue no one is buying this to Canyon Carve. When the N version hits it will have more bolster on the seats.

My only gripe about Hyundai is the lack of a dual exhaust on a rear diffuser/bumper that looks like it’s meant to have a dual exhaust. If it’s intended to distinguish between the N line and lower trim models, keep a dual exhaust across the trim levels, and then use quad exhaust tips for the N line.

the exterior is a mix of the g70 front end and civic rear end , but inverted . the interior is for sure impressive . i want to see this in person to get a real feel for the car
