I went to my dealership 2 weeks ago for the pre-order. I built a diesel Rubicon from the ground up, loaded and walked out at $59K. The estimated time of delivery was 6-8weeks. My dealer rep called me this morning and told me the production is slated for Nov 25. Takes a few days to produce the vehicle so their estimate to my doorstep is first week of December.

Riley Gallagher The wait is getting the production line ready. To actually create the vehicle only takes a couple days. Same for the train ride to Texas. If the gladiator is any indication those numbers seem solid.

I have the 3L eco diesel in my 2014 Grand Cherokee Summit. I LOVE this engine. Great fuel economy, tons of torque, tons of power, and I love it.

I believe it adds $6000.00 total...$4000.00 for the engine and $2000.00 for the mandatory automatic.

I still want one---but it's been a long, long wait! And now I live on Molokai where there are no new car dealerships. That said, my JK Rubicon was shipped here about two and a half years ago from Springville, Utah. Shipping a car to Hawaii from the west coast the vehicle goes via Matson. From Oahu to Molokai it's carried over by the Young Brothers barge. I'm anxious to drive a new JL diesle Wrangler Unlimited. Thank you Roman & your Jeep chief engineer friend for this nice introduction to the JL Wrangler Unlimited diesel! Well done!

The FCA guy is right. There is a lot of difference between the old & new diesels. The old ones were reliable & ran forever, the new ones have an EGR / emissions system that chokes the life out of them and are nothing but maintenance headaches. FCA has a new government mandated recall right now for the EGR cooler on the gen-2 ecodiesels for coolant leaks & potentially catching fire, resulting in trucks burning to the ground. I sure hope FCA has addressed these issues with the gen-3 engine!!

Paul Ehlers I read on another video discribing the third gen ecodiesel still consists of the same issue problems as the last model just some of the major parts are bigger or built with different material , but the major part(camshaft) is still pressed, I’m not a mechanic but a mechanic who was familiar with the problems had commented and said that that was a Major problem so it’s just a matter of time til it has flaws like the old one. But of course you can delete it and all and take away the back lash, but hearing that a major component is pressed and not some kindof bolted ? Not sure how reliable that would be, that’s why I ordered a gladiator with 3.6 instead , rather than wait to have a mother eco diesel nightmare as I’ve read over and over again.

@@camberridgeoff-roading3822 The gen-3 hasn't been on the road in owners hands yet, so there isn't any track record for it at this point. I am a retired diesel mechanic and the pressed cam drive gear was a minor issue with the gen-2 Eco's. The big issues were crankshaft bottom end/bearing problems = blown engines and coolant leaks particularly with the EGR cooler. The government has made FCA issue a massive recall for the EGR cooler because they pose a fire hazard & there has been multiple trucks burn to the ground because of the EGR problems. The new gen-3 will have two EGR coolers to potentially go bad. The EPA has cracked down on the aftermarket tune & delete manufacturer's and at present there isn't any tunes available to do a delete even if you wanted to. Because of this there might not be a tune developed of the gen-3. FCA has dug themselves a pretty big hole due to the issues with the Gen-2 ecodiesel & the EPA required emission components that choke & kill the engine.

If you want a good solid diesel engine, go find a 6.5 TD takeout from a 2001+ HMMWV. Rock solid - just make sure to add Stanadyne to each tank to keep the ULSD from ruining your Injection Pump. No DEF. No nonsense with not being able to tune your engine. Just simple diesel torque goodness.

I was just at an auto show where the Jeep presenter made the announcement about the Eco-diesel coming to the Wrangler in 2020 (can't recall if she said it was going into the Gladiator as well). I immediately lit up because if there's one reason I never got a Wrangler, it was the awful fuel economy. I own a 2008 Liberty and that thing eats gas, and all the Wranglers up until this have even worse fuel economy than my 3.7 with the 4spd auto. So yea, this is great news. Thanks, JEEP, for finally making reasonable improvements to your flagship vehicle. It was about time. In a few years, when I reach 250K miles on the Libby, I may pick up a used 2020 Wrangler with this Eco-diesel.

Great video as usual. Love the new Wranglers, but one look at the JL forum issues page and all the problems people are having with their steering, and Jeeps inability to fix them has convinced me to wait for the Bronco.

I have a 2018 Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel and love it, but if you do local driving the Re-Gen mode will trigger. That could be problematic on the trail, when not traveling at highway speeds. Has that been addressed with this engine?

Interested in that aspect too, by Ram Cummins rarely regens because I do plenty of long runs, but on the two occasions I know of, holy cow the smell is horrible, a cross between burning brakes, or clutch, and a skunk.

I think it will bring a new wave of customers. Particularly those who love to drive the Jeep daily but held back because they were MPG conscious. With this ECO diesel, your getting regular sedan MPG. Now your making your daily commute to work an urban adventure.

Unfortunately, i bet they never will. Because the DEF tank takes away to much from the fuel tank, and they have no manual available for that torque.

I’m glad they made a diesel to put in the wrangler. I’ve got a 2 JL rubicon now and was considering getting the diesel. Disappointing that you can’t get it in the 2 door. Once they put it in the gladiator though 👌🏻

@@MyDrom I'm still driving my 91 YJ daily, have had more built jeeps than Sema, and in theory, would buy my second ever "new" Jeep if they made a manual trans, Gladiator Rubicon, (and only because I dont want to do an axle swap on a new truck) and diesel. I'm willing to wait a bit, till it's out, and proven, but i dont think jeep will let me put together what i want. But the eco diesel has got to be proven to me. There are two kinds of diesel's today, simple and reliable, or efficient over controlled ratthetrap nightmares built for station wagons in eroupe.

@@goodnough1 and Nissan abandoned using the 5L. In the next gen. They didn't sell worth a damn. Maybe they would if their trucks didn't have 2005 interior, 3/4 ton prices, 3/4 fuel mileage and 0 capabilities of a 3/4 ton. Why spend 65k on it when you can get a 6.7? And that..... is why Nissan failed with it. Oh and as far as Jeep, there's no way the 5L would fit in one.

The wrangler rubicon with the diesel is going to cost close to $80k in Canada, they are already 67k with the 2.0L turbo.

@@MyDrom well a 4cyl. ;-) but you are correct. Many have little room in the engine bay these days. But my 2.8 dmax in my zr2 has lots of room. When I decide to buy a new jeep I'm not sure what engine I would choose.

I'm wondering about possible safety issues with a rear collision having the diesel exhaust fluid tank behind the rear axle and so close to the bumper. I'm surprised they didn't ask any questions about that.

Did they do anything to address the excessive slop in the steering? I know they originally said that slop was there as part of the off-roading design but there has to be some kind of improvement over those units that were sold that seem to have to much slop.

Since the towing is limited by the chassis design, will we potentially see a smaller diesel option that will still tow the same weight and get even better mileage? While the numbers on the 3L are impressive for horsepower and torque, I suspect they might be overkill for most applications.

I still own a Jeep Liberty with a 2.8L diesel. Purchased in the great USA. Jeep had a small diesel in the Cherokee back in the 80's.

Some things I'd do put the 4:10 Axel's/diffs in. Manual transmission def delete and a tune and probably all in the gladiator platform

How about the regen process,does it still inject raw diesel fuel into #1 cylinder and thin out the engine oil. What happens when you do a lot of stop and go traffic and it needs to do a regen and the DPF gets clogged. When you have to replace a DPF ya better get ready to shell out big bucks

Waiting on my decision for the release of the Bronco details. I would prefer the lighter ecoboost with better towing. If they come out with a Tremor version of the Bronco to compete with Rubicon I will 100% get the Bronco.

The lack of towing capacity turns me off the Rubicon, the Grand Cherokee has almost double the 3500lbs. I'm keen to see if the new Bronco will be a robust vehicle like the 1995 I had, or a cynical styling exercise for hipsters..

@Krumblingus actually, this 3.0 and the 2.2 are pretty damn solid engines. the really bad issue with italian cars and their automotive technology in general are electronics which totally suck. this 3.0 crd is the best thing that could possibly happen to the wrangler. I hope we will get it in europe as well as here we have only the 2.2 diesel and 2.0 turbo gasoline

Krumblingus my wife loves her 2019 wrangler with the turbo 4. No issues whatsoever! However, my 2019 longhorn is a different story.

Krumblingus well, she drove it cross country and has put 14,000 miles on it since June. Only issue is her passenger seat and she averages 25 mpg.

Why is it in Australia the JL 4 door wranglers get a tow rating of 2495kg ( 5500 lb ) but the USA only has 1500kg ( 3500 lb ) ? same for 3.6 Petrol or 2.2 Diesel

Definitely a contender for year round vehicle. Fun summer trips, capable in bad winter months and high fuel range which I need. Very tempting.

C7 GT1 Unless the previous info that was released a long time back for the Gladiator has changed the diesel will not tow as much as the pentastar. I believe it was said to be due to cooling capacity. Im sure it will tow easier, just not rated for as much.

Towing capacity and payload also depend on how the frame is designed, suspension, breaks/rotors, cooling as mentioned above, and a bunch of other stuff that I don't know about or understand... I'm guessing that if/when the Gladiator gets a diesel, the towing capacity and payload will remain the same as it is now with the 3.6 gas engine.

So I'm sure other people that know what they want for off roading are thinking the same as me. What did they do for the axles? I think you'll see more people popping differentials and axle shafts when they lift and go to a larger tire with all that torque.

2020 Wrangler has a 17.5 gallon tank, assuming this diesel will have the same tank, the FCA guy said over 500 mile range. That works out to 28.5 MPG (theoretically) most likely hwy.

Probably to some extent. The frames have to flex more on these since they're offroad oriented. Probably did a slight detune because of that.

Part of the lower torque figure is based on the fact that the smaller grille of the Wrangler can't provide as much cooling as the larger grille of the RAM. The engine also had to be reconfigured to fit in the Wrangler and still afford 30" of water fording.

As a Ford fan, I hope the new Bronco is competitive in engine options. Although I would love a V8 option, the 3.5 Eco would be just fine with 375hp and 470tq. This is the only Jeep engine I would ever consider in a Jeep. Kudos.

I am still going to hold out until they release a model that features non-defective frame welds. That's a feature I'd like to see come back.

4Lo trust me you haven’t seen a bad frame until you see the Chevy Colorado’s frame. We have them at the mine and they are about a year old and every single one we have about 15. Has had the lower control arm brackets ripped off, front cross member, and transmission crossmembers. Every. single. one. The amount of driving they get would take a long time for normal owners but a broken frame should never happen
