I'm an Aussie living in the USA. I have the 2020 Stinger GT2 over here, which is basically the same car in this review minus the heated steering wheel. A few comments. Rear toe room can be improved by adjusting the height of the front seats which can raise up to about 6cm from their lowest position. Yes, it's a compromise between front and rear passengers, but it's an option that's available. If you put the car into sport mode and long press the traction control button (about 5s) it will now hold the gears and not auto-upshift. Fuel economy can be as good as 6.5L/100km if you put it into Economy mode and do long distances on the highway at 100kph with the Coast mode turned on, although as he says, around 10L/100km is fairly typical for mixed daily use. If you want faster launches than what launch control even allows, use the handbrake instead of the footbrake, as the engine will start to spool the turbos better than the stock launch mode and that can take another 0.2s off the 0-100kph sprint. Aside from those comments, it's an absolutely fantastic car. I love mine. My wife loves it too. So comfortable. I've done a pair of 800km days in mine, and arrived at the other end completely refreshed. If planes offered the same seats in Economy class, the 14hr cross-Pacific trip from Australia to the USA would be a breeze! Definitely one of the most under-rated, enjoyable, and yet still extremely practical cars ever.
I've had my Stinger GT for 18 months now and am still staring at it thinking "This is my car??". I love it and have done the Great Ocean Rd in it too. Great fun to drive and comfortable too. With all the tech features in it there isn't much else that compares at this price point.
@L because in all honesty you have to be making 90k to afford that car without sacrificing other things in life like saving for an emergency, retirement, kids college fund.
@@Hallowsaw It costs only $37,000 USD brand new. You certainly don't need to be making anywhere 90k to afford this. You could afford two of these on a 65k salary and still save money for retirement
@@jcdentonunatco 10% of you income is all you should pay for car expenses. 10% x 5 years= 50% over 5 years. So yeah, you need to be making 90k to not be car poor.
I bought my Stinger last week after seeing this post and absolutely LOVE my new car. Getting the exhaust done next week, super excited and can’t wait to hear and drive it after the fitting! :))
Had my stinger GT nearly 2.5 years and love it. Can't believe more people haven't bought one! Really are amazing cars all round... comfortable, practical and with power when you want it. Ok, taller people might struggle in the back seats, but I have a seating priority regime and that seems to help. But that's the only draw back I've found, and it really isn't an issue. My husband is 6'3" and is quite comfortable in the front. Can't speak highly enough about this car. I looked at other cars with specs that were similar and they would have cost me 10s of thousands more. Couldn't be happier with my choice.
In the 1990's I owned two Nissan 280ZXs, both white with red interior, targa roof and the signature three gauges on the dash. Had my Stinger GT for two weeks now, white with red interior, sunroof and the three air vents on the dash. The Stinger is just like a modern day version of the 280ZX, both low GT cruisers, both an absolute pleasure to drive.
At first I was extremely hesitant in getting this. But glad to say, I'm currently waiting for my car to be delivered. It was a pleasure to drive and so comfortable. I see everyone saying that it's an amazing car for the value and I completely agree!
Was blown away by the test drive. Ordered mine yesterday. 3 week wait. Enamel grey with bimodal exhaust. I'll get a Johnny Tig cold air intake and I'm set.
@@flubber_ducky In Australia we can fit a Bimodal at dealership for about $3300AUD ($2000 USD or so). As far as I know Australia is only place in the world that offers dealership exhaust, however I've heard 2021 will have bimodal as standard and also a new engine with 300kw+
Omg u are so right. I live in Arkansas and I have never even seen one so of course we had to buy one and damn man it does turn heads. No that's not the reason to buy this car but it doesn't hurt🤣. Buy it because it's a damn fine machine and looks amazing oh and kia backs it up with that best warranty in the biz! FREAKING LUV THIS CAR😉!!
Amazing car and value for the money! This was perfect timing since Ford and Holden caved in. The Stinger GT performance is very similar to the FPV F6 Typhoon. With a performance chip these things are already pushing 340kW easily.
I’ve owned a 2015 Challenger SRT and traded it for a 2017 2SS Camaro both (Manuals) and after driving the Kia Stinger I was stunned on how fast and how much I liked this vehicle it’s that good I also test drove a Genesis G70 and that car is a beast and the torque felt better than my Camaro and to tell you the truth I liked it better than both cars just wish it was a little faster I still like bragging rights 0-60 but I’m definitely going to purchase a stinger after I move.
@@kenmasters2025 I agree but mods for me isn’t a option I keep my cars %100 factory other than cosmetics it’s a great car I like 0-60 in my Camaro 2SS 4.0 and under but at 4.5 I would buy a Stinger might still buy one anyway after driving one I did fall in love with it. but I appreciate your insight and advice.
The smile it put on your face says it all & that's what real cars should do. In a world of SUV'S & ev's that we're being forced to drive,it's great to see a proper salon car on the market. Can't help but think it looks like a Maserti from behind. Cops in Liverpool use them as pursuit cars, awesome machine.
Hey Paul great review mate, I purchased a Stinger GT new I'm now 10,000km into ownership I can not get enough of the car absolutely love it. I have been waiting for yous to do a review on the bi model exhaust think you just pushed me across the line. Oh also have not had a single rattle from the interior very happy :D
Great to hear! You should definitely get the exhaust :-D it's heaps of fun. See if you can test drive one with the exhaust first just to make sure it's not too overpowering for you!
I own a 2019 Ceramic Silver Stinger GT2 and this car is so freaking awesome. Every time I go through driver thru’s people always ask me if I like it! The car is a jewel! It’s rear wheel drive so it will drift with no effort! As a matter of fact if the street has any moisture on it I turn the drive dial down to Eco! I love this car!
Hey - nice video. I just bought the Stinger GTS and love it! The performance of the car is excellent and the sound system is awesome. I do wish for more exhaust sound though... so I may have to replace it. Other than the exhaust, the car gets a 9/10.
You are correct, this isn't a panoramic sunroof, but to be fair, it also is not a regular sized sunroof, this one is bigger, and KIA made it that way on purpose.
Had my GT 2 AWD for a year now and absolutely love it. I chose the Stinger for performance cost was not an issue. I wanted a car not make a fashion statement with a Lambo or other.
I've just got one....love it..ceramic grey. Definitely want to drift in it but dont fancy buying tyres or pranging it 🙈🙈..I'm treating it with kid gloves and driving like Miss Daisy at the moment 😂😂😂😂
The great thing about this car is under the hood. You can actually work on this vehicle yourself. It's reminiscent of the old muscle cars, with pretty much full accessibility. The available mod's are ridiculous. The SK's did themselves proud. I absolutely love mine.
Faaaaaaarrr, that's where I thought his face looked very familiar... I'm like I've seen this face somewhere but where and never realised due to the Oz accent. Thanks for reminding me...
Had mine from 2018 so far exhaust, bov, intake, sway bar upgrade, lowering spring, and tunes. The car has so much potential. That looks like a GT2 trim the Gt trim got no Nappa leather.
I love my 2018 GT1. What I clearly do not appreciate is this "need" for more engine noise. I'm glad that my engine is as quiet as it is stock. If I wanted more engine noise I'd have not considered the Stinger. A selling point with me was the advertised cabin quietude. I wish the Stinger's cabin were a bit more quiet in fact.
Hi I have a 2020 Kia Stinger GT in the Orange only had it for a short time but what a car, I first had a look at the Stinger in a show room in Adelaide Australia early 2019 in the Orange from that day had love the look and color, still getting to know the car but what a trip I'm having........................
Had a GT for 18 months now. No regrets. Yeah, the Conti tyres aren't the greatest and the paddle shifters are a bit more sluggish than sportier cars like a Toyota 86 but that's about it. Any criticisms I have of the Stinger are just nitpicks.
I reckon Kia makes the best cars after Toyota and Nissan, I had a 2004 Kia Cerato sedan a few years back because I'm from a very remote community in the N.T. and up and down those roads to Darwin to Central Australia that car lasted 4 years until my cousin sold it to the wreckers in Darwin for $200, it served me well and I think Kia should start making small twin cab trucks cos if they do, it'll be unstoppable in the bush and in the towns thanks for the intro 👍😁
I’ll be in the market for a new car and this is top of my list , can find exdemo GT for close to 50k and under 10,000 km on it. Love the ceramic grey and the red leather. I’ve not had a car as powerful before though, I’ll get heckled for this but I’ll also try out the gt -line
That Grey is beautiful. We looked at one but out of our price range so we got the panthera black GT 3.3LITER twin turbo and Holy crap this car is nice. Freaking fast.
I have just watched your excellent review of the Stinger. Now in March ‘22 I am seriously considering buying a brand new 2022 GT I love this car but I keep hearing reports that the Stinger is about to be discontinued which worries me for the future if I buy one but I cannot get any more information on the future of Stinger in Australia. I was just wondering if you guys at Car Advice have anymore information. Fast forward to April 2022 and yes I have bought the G T now including the bi-modal exhaust. This is an absolutely phenomenal vehicle, I love it 😻. I can’t understand why Kia are thinking of ending production later this year. Thanks Matt it was your review that finally got me to the Kia dealership.
Had mine 2 yrs now and still love it. Had the boot/trunk rattle problem fixed under warranty. How ever I hope Kia Servicing in Oz is better than Brunei. 2 annual services so far and they have yet to complete a full service 1st time round? 17k and tyres never been checked yet (pressures on right side done only??) and sent away with tyres that should been given an advisory. Gonna have my servicing done elsewhere and annual checks by Kia only. Great car let down by Kia Servicing.
Are you 8 years old? Kia dethroning Toyota and Honda? Go look at global sales and compare them. Go look at the resale value of a 5 year old Kia vs a Toyota or Honda... Kia are CHEAP, JUNK cars for people who don’t know anything about cars and don’t have the money for a real car. Dumbest fucking comment I’ve ever seen🤦♂️
@@nickcaesar7650 Why so angry bro/ sis? Have you ever heard of Ford and Chrysler... Do you remember how they once dominated? So far, kia has made extreme improvements in the past few years; quality, reliability, features, performance, style, and pricing; not to mention their warranty. Remember, this is my opinion. So don't start foaming at the mouth just yet.
Hi just bought the 2020 Gt stinger in all black so far man what a cool car looks great goes even better I'm going to put a sports exhaust on it and do the turbo intakes and a dino then look out best car ever.....
Was going to buy one but then i test drive a VF2 Motorsport and the stinger couldn't beat the the feel of the Motorsport inside and out. VF2 has more room, a real sounding exhaust with the rumble of a V8 (after market exhaust twin 3inch DPE catback)and the MRC is just awesome with a manual. I will admit that the stereo system in the kia is bloody good compared to the crappy Bose system in the VF2. Harman Kardon systems in the Kia Stinger and the Subaru Liberty 3.6 have the best sounding standard car audio systems around.
Had the opportunity to have a spirited drive on an epic road in one last weekend. I’ve had the luck to drive quite a few cars including an Audi R8 V10, no joke, the Stinger GT with the bimodal exhaust gives 90% of the fun at a fraction of the price. My summary? I. Want. One.
Sadly Australia is way behind again. The V8 KIA K900 has been on the market in USA since 2018. A GT or SS option is usually offered with a V8 performance package. Eg:- (Monaro SS, Ford Mustang, Toyota Soarer, etc)
I think if they keep updating the Stinger with facelifts and tweaks here and there every year they'll sell it well in the long run. Kinda like the r35.
So it pumps in exhaust sound. I don’t know whether that’s a mic pickup by the exhaust or totally artificial sound. ...Now the question might be whether I have enough curving country roads close enough on which to enjoy it. Otherwise, it’s a lot of bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Tough call - probably the Stinger. 300 SRT is getting on now and you can't beat the warranty and capped servicing costs on the Stinger for bang-for-buck.
Paul Maric thanks for the prompt reply and great video👌 Gotta say though, the grin you had when you reviewed the SRT a couple of years back was priceless moreso now as I’m shopping for a new sedan. Hahaha
@@mr.h3603 I am just trading in my srt8 on a stinger got. Pick it up on friday🤓. Whilst I loved my srt8, you just cannot beat that he I v8...... it was a tad unreliable which in all honesty I would have forgiven because I loved the car and it’s road presence so much. What I could not forgive is the interior. Every bit of carbon fibre has come off.... even the ones that were replaced under warranty. Chrysler Jeep have not changed the interior, they know the problem exists but in the end have basically have told the consumer....bad luck... for that Chrysler does not get my money. I spent 3 grand on the bi modal and I reckon this car will be fantastic....... can’t wait
Donald Ducky Congrats Mr Ducky! Your SRT sounds like the ‘13 model with 5 speed box. Apparently the CF issue not isolated to yours as I have heard and seen many vehicles like this. Honestly the V8 is too good to pass up, so this time round Im going down that path. I do admit the Stinger is extremely appealing. Anyhow, enjoy the delivery for Friday 👌
I had a 300 rental about 2 years ago, and it was not very impressive. If I was gonna put down 50 grand on a car with shit reliability, it would have to be really nice inside. And as for styling, the 300 looks like a rental car.
