"go with what you need" is a great mantra I like to keep my things for as long as I can, so I do go with a little extra when purchasing, or at least something that I know I can upgrade later to keep up with my needs if possible. These new Macs can't really be upgraded, which worries me a little. My current laptop is from 2014, and my desktop is mostly running hardware from 2010 (CPU and everything else)-2014(GPU), though I've upgraded the RAM in both since I originally purchased/built them --my laptop from 4 to 8GB (though I could do 12 if I want) and my desktop from 8 to 24GB. I expect to keep using both for at least several more years to come.

I dont do any gaming, mostly using the internet for school, homework, watching sports, movies, etc. but I am usually on my computer all day long whether its school, work, or for fun. i would like to learn to edit home videos but im not out there making 4K youtube videos regularly like a business. Ive been using regular plain PCs my whole life and after 2-3 years they go bad. I Was hoping to buy a macbook air and make it last at least 6-7 years like my buddies do with their Macbook pro. So do you think i should upgrade to the 16GB Ram? Or just stick with 8 GB since the stuff the actual computer activities are not that intense? Again, im on my computer for like 10 hours per day and want this last for a long ass time. (if anyone else would like to answer, feel free to chime in)

Got a gold M1 Air with the 8 core gpu 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD for $1099 at B&H a few weeks ago, so far it has handled photo editing with Lr and Ps very well. Also video editing on Final Cut Pro is very smooth. My most extreme multitask is listening to Spotify while I edit photos and so far I’ve had no issues.

Hey, as a Graphic Designer/VFX artist and a student, would the 16GB M1 Air do it? Or is a base M1 PRO 14'' worth the C$700 upgrade? ( I do prefer consistent performance for upto 2 hours of Graphics Work and 7 hours of casual stuff a day... )

Hi! I have a question from a non-video/photo editor standpoint. I am planning on getting my first MacBook laptop and will be using it for work. I don't use any professional apps or whatnot, my workflow typically involves having 40 to 50 chrome tabs open including google docs, sheets, emails, Trello, etc. Will the MacBook Air with 8GB of ram suffice and handle it without causing any performance issues given it does not have a fan? Or will it be better to get the 16GB version or better yet, go with the MCP instead? Also, since I will be using this for work as a freelancer, I typically use it 7 days a week for at least 8 to 10 hours per day. Thanks in advance!

I bought the previous macbook air 8gb in october and the fan would go crazy when i watch 2 videos on chrome/safari and have a ppt or two open. In comparison, for a med school student. How many tabs can u have open as well as documents before you notice the laptop getting hot?

UPS said the signature was “just a line” (their words) “it’s unreadable” and that the ID that was scanned cant be verified so basically they don’t even know who signed for my package or where it was delivered. It was a M1MacBook Pro Silver with 16GBRAM 512GBSSD worth $1700
