2020 Mazda CX-5 Turbo - Real-world MPG Test

Fast forward to 2024. The CX 5 is much quieter on the highway. Mazda put in more insulation, better tires and acoustic glass in the windshield as well as driver-passenger windows. Still, the engine noise is a bit loud during acceleration. Once you get cruising, it’s negligible. One quick edit. At 2500 miles the 2.5 naturally aspirated four cylinder in mine gets 25-26 mpg in town, no sweat. On the highway, I’m getting around 32-33. I’m ok with that too.

Mazda's normal mode is actually eco mode. The sport mode just gives out the full potential of the engine and drive train

I own a 2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature w/ 24,500 miles on it and I love it . I have gotten as high as 30.2 MPG on about 330-350 mile fill ups on my trips to and from Boone, NC and Detroit. I just bought new cx5 signature 2020 and I drove 340 miles on highway(filled one and half tank to travel)... my mpg was 19.2...I used octane 93 gas from Costco.. I checked tires before and after my trip those looks okay and just went on speed around 70-80 mph .. I’m disappointed with this low mileage, is something wrong with my car??

have u done this test with premium gas to see if it does a little better?

My trip to Florida I average 33 mpg on the 2019 cx 5 gt turbo. The in City driving is where it consumes more

So what does city driving do?

My 1997 Mazda 626 always had better than EPA MPGs .. by about 2 MPG... my ford Fusion however was 2 or 4 MPGs Overstated! In fact my 2008 Toyota Avalon 6 cyl got better MPGs city and Highway vs my Fusion! Better to underestimate and over perform! I wonder what you get in the city .. driving stop and go between 0 and 55 MPH..

Very scientific, but then you turned on the AC. I get that it's hot outside, but your mileage would be better on a cooler day, if you didn't have the AC sucking gas. Your test results will vary as a result of the outside temps.

Was this test ever redone to verify? I just ran the same test in Pa on the turnpike with the GTR (turbo) and got 34.3! The car said it was getting 32.3 which is STILL impressive and 5 mpg over the stated 27. But filling up and doing the math gave 34.3!!

How do you tell the difference between the turbo and non-turbo?

Hi Charlie You mention on all your audio reviews that your channel provides the most realistic sound test, very true(except a New page in Asia that goes further, and provides a digital thumb print of a sound system performance). In your review you always use factory delivery settings while playing songs. In my view, very few people would listen to music using base settings particularly when they optioned that sound upgrade. Sound engineers also won't use base settings to setup either. If you arranged sound settings for every car, at it's best, it would really provide us with a clearer plateau of the systems performance. As watch youtube channels reviewing TV sets, I notice the tend to give a factory review and how to best setup for ultimate performance. I can also recognise which manufacturers that deliver you set already fine tuned for your convenience. Perhaps you might consider cover both base setup and fine tuned(4 us lame audios) to your preference. Keenly awaiting your response, Thank you,
