While it has sported many badges since it first arrived here for 2001... Freightliner, Mercedes-Benz, and even Dodge; the Sprinter has changed the commercial van market here in the U.S. forever, by opening the door to European-style high-roof workhorses to replace the traditional truck-based vans. So let’s get to work and find out what’s next for the sprinter.

I do love full-sized van reviews. Thanks for this one! A comparison between this, the RAM Promaster, and Transit would make for an interesting future video as well.

I’ve owned a 2016 for a year now. 2.1 diesel. It’ll get up to 60. But the damn thing is governed at 82mph. I live in Texas and our speed limit on interstates is 80. Doesn’t leave much for getting out of the way of fast passers.

Saul Goodman - even same color as DHL uses. Wonder if TFL took the chance at evaluation of THIS particular unit "may not" pass that Gauntlet with the teeny (220-spec) T-2.0L. Mercedes would probably ask them to take either (i4 or V6) TD.

UPS had a bunch of these and they broke down so much back in the last 10 years that they trashed all of them!! Complete junk. Now they went back to Ram vans for the small air deliveries. I was shocked to see less than 10 year old vehicles all trashed out and sent to pasture when the big box trucks are 15 to 20 plus years old still rolling along.

I've had a good bit of seat time with both the 2020 Sprinter and 2020 Transit. The Ford is a superior van in all respects except for engine power(no torque, its a freaking Mustang V6 with a 7000rpm redline lol). Main points are the Ford handles/drives a lot nicer, feels a lot tighter, doors close nicer, doesn't rattle as much. The step in height for the Ford is A LOT lower, both to the driver's seat and in the back, its a lot more short person friendly. Stock/base radio in the Ford is actually a nice unit, the one in the Benz sounds like a tin can and the head unit looks/operates like a 1990's Sanyo Wal-Mart special(no screen)
@Jojo21453
@Jojo21453 4 года назад
Aaron Smith I drove the Transit in the long tall version and think it‘s absolutely terrible. It had the 2.2l Diesel, which had no torque at all and the clutch and transmission were absolute garbage. Same goes for the infotainment. The seating position was terrible too. at least it had alot of incabin storage and a reverse camera.
@AaronSmith-kr5yf
@AaronSmith-kr5yf 4 года назад
@@Jojo21453 If you think the infotainment on a Transit is bad, the base unit in a Sprinter doesn't even have a screen, its a dot matrix screen like a 1990 cassette player. Base engine in the USA Transit is a non turbo 3.5 or 3.7 V6(Mustang and Taurus engine) with a 10 speed automatic. Its okay once you get moving, but a complete dog below 20mph, powerband is 3500-7000rpm.

Mercedes-Benz and Toyota are competing to see who can be more American. Toyota has pickup trucks and SUVs, while Mercedes-Benz has SUVs and vans. I want to see what automaker outside the United States will follow in these footsteps next. Both brands offer way too many crossovers and SUVs and need to slim down their own lineups.

Seems very expensive compared to an E150 or comparable US built van. Hate to see US German trade deficit balooning while Germans shirk their full security costs. Germans are defended by US troops and jets, while closing markets to US goods, & reaping in fractions of trillions of Euros from open US markets. Perhaps a $50k per imported EU vehicle tariff is helpful until the trade deficit is balanced and Germany fully pays its NATO, security, intelligence and electronic surveillance amortized share of nearly $150 B per year. Someone is playing the fool.

I would consider it if it was beefed up!! These puny engines do nothing for me, I want to go mountain climbing and camping with my dogs, fit it with a bed and all the good stuff but for some reason it doesn’t make me trust these puny engines on this massive sprinter. I’d rather go with an E-350 Econoline

@4jp

The Express is the second best selling van in the US market. That does not include the GMC badged vans either. GM is raking in cash on a vehicle they designed over 20 years ago. That is great business sense for a company that is usually very bad at such things.
@yosquidd242
@yosquidd242 2 года назад
@@4jp Wusses don't like to compete. And comprehension is left in high school shop class and beer mindsets. American manufacturers let innovation from Japan take steel plants over as well.
