Love seeing reviews on these cars from people that actually own them and are unbiased. Also like that this guy obviously sells caravans but is not ramming them down our throat. Great way to get free brand placement and give the punters a reason to see the van behind the MIGHTY 62 👌
More and more people are coming around the to Y62. Nissan cant keep up with demand at the moment. We bought ours after my partner wanted a L200. A back to back inspection then a test drive in a Y62 was all it took to convince her the Patrol was the better car. Only towing a 1T camper at the moment but one day will have a van behind it. You dont even feel the camper on the back. It would be interesting to see how much the factory exhaust is holding back your supercharged Y62's potential. All other Supercharged Y62's seem to get a full exhaust at the same time.
Certainly a nice vehicle but be careful about what weight caravan you eventially buy. This vehicle cant legally tow a 3500kg van when your vehicle has fuel, accesories, passengers and luggage. Plus there is an added weight penalty from Nissan on the tow ball download. Do the sums on your GVM and GCM limits. Cheers.
@@matthewstevens6605 Try buying one, they most certainly cannot keep up with demand at the moment. Go grab a 200 series and sit in the right hand lane doing 90 like all the rest of the nomads chief. Jog along now. Australia is the only country in the world where the Cruiser outsells Patrol. USA will soon discontinue the 200. You have no idea champ.
Very Interesting Fuel consumption results between this and your previous testing 5 months ago. Yes i know a smaller 2.2 tonne van, Was it the same course taken for this test ? Standard Patrol results 21.51 litres per hundred with 2.2 t Van driving normally. 29.5 Litres with a larger van 3.5 tonne giving it the berries. LOL Nice work guys keep them coming
Good comparison. Always liked Patrols. Now it makes me want to cut the back off it, extend the chassis and turn it into a ute..... Harrop should develop supercharger for the 200 diesel....yes.....a twin charged 200......hmmmmm the mind boggles.......
You can only put 200 kilos in a Nissan Patrol where's the 3 1/2 ton caravan on the back the 200 series LandCruiser can only take about 265 kilos inside it where's that weight on the back of it
I don’t own a caravan/Ute/4x4. I actually drive a Mazda 3. However I enjoy watching your videos as they put cars in real scenarios. Honest no nonsense reviews. Well done.
Excellent vid, as requested. Based on the comparison done in your prev vid the y62 Patrol outdoes the cruiser in many ways. What was the average consumption towing when not flooring it?
Hi Mr Mountain RV, Just curious to know. What was the actual tow ball down weight of that caravan? As a 3.5 tonne caravan is huge! LOL. Being a stock y62, did the back end sag or wallow much? From the video they both seemed to sit ok? People in forums keep claiming, get air bags or air bag/ coil combo. How did the patrol sit and feel in your opinion. Do you feel an airbag would just be enough, or needed at all. Towing say a fully loaded at 3 tonne. Keen to hear you opinion, Thanks, Dave.
Some hideous fuel economy figures there.! Your going to be visiting the servo a fair bit I'd say. The stock Patrol has enough power by the sounds of it.
I have had pretty good luck with a 2012 QX56. Don't get me wrong, it has had it's Gremlins. Yet, after 125k miles, it still runs strong and almost everything works almost all of the time. When considering a replacement, I drove the Tahoe, Escalade, Sequoia, Excursion and Armada from 2018-2020. It's really down to the Sequoia and Armada. A similar Toyota with AWD,
Great comparison team, love the videos and the enthusiasm. Looks like you might need some airbags when towing that sort of load. Does it sag a bit at the back?
what. People Don't Reliase is With The Supercharged Y 62 You Will Be Getting The Auto Serviced a Lot More Services Compared To a Stock Y 62 probably Every 30000 KMs min To Say 40000/50000 KMs But I am No way a Expert just What l Heard ? but $550 a Service to The Auto cheap insurance
Firstly I sat in one of those at the 4x4 show in Melbourne it was the must comfortable seat I’ve ever sat in a car , secondly you making me jealous we go to Bethanga every November with the bike club and now I can’t wait to get up there . How did it go up the hill after the sharp hairpin bend leading up to Bethanga.
Love all your comparisons and do think the the Y62 is a great buy and over all better than the LC 200. You have done the Ranger test tows and they are a great vehicles, but now need to do a test tow with the Jeep Grand Cherokee V6 diesel. I know what you are going to say, a bloody Jeep, got to be kidding. Well you should get out on the road and you will be surprised how many are out there. Would like to know how it stacks up against the others and to make it really fun, also do a back to back test with the Jeep Grand Cherokee TRACKHAWK, would like to know it stacks up as a tow car, will blow you away is my answers.
@@MrJordanwain we got the basic Nissan Patrol XE shipped over in a container from Bahrain, then got it all converted to UK road specs here in the UK and got it licensed with UK plates.
Only 1 second less 0 to 100 kmh seems disappointing compared to stock. Assuming Supercharger cost what $2k or more that is not bang for buck in my opinion.
Supercharged V8 Nissan Patrol sounds the way to go IF you have plenty of $$$'s & fuel economy is not your goal. And I would imagine there's plenty of people that feel that way.
I noticed your power and torque is now up from 375kW to 405kW and 700Nm to 760Nm since your first video. What upgrades did you do? A new exhaust and tune? If so, what exhaust did you use?
Was hoping to buy a series 4, dodgy paintwork, thought I’d wait till series 5. Guess what ? Paintwork still chipping like crazy. 70k plus and they still can’t get the paintwork right. Think I’m kidding google y62 paint. It’s the only thing stopping me from buying one. Love them otherwise. Awesome engine, awesome sound, plenty of power. Great review
Steve RM We did a lap of Australia in our S4 and came back to a full respray under warranty! Looks brand new now. Better than having constant DPF issues and a 30k repair bill for a dusted engine from its only competition.
We thought the same, it is going off GPS and was off one run. It could of been faster? We thought using an app would be more accurate with GPS. Perhaps next time we do three runs to compare and average out.
The supercharged one is very underwhelming. And sounds it too. Almost sounds like it has not got a good enough exhaust on it which is holding it back in performance too?
THANK YOU FOR GREAT DETAIL VIDEO ON ROAD TEST WITH V8 PATROL WITH 3.5 TON TRY WITH ISUZU DIESEL TON WITH SAME 3.5 TON MY ISUZU 4X4 300 CREW CAB WITH 5.2 DIESEL TURBO
Great videos, shame about the crap music, why the hell do people who make these think its important to have this rubbish playing whilst making such a good video. Dont think I would bother with supercharger, but thinking if getting the standard model, very impressive vehicle apart from the pay load problem.
fuel aside and stock i would say Y62, petrol engines produce great power at the cost of the aformentioned fuel. As to which one any sane person should buy, diesel for towing.
I have owed both and will never go back to a lc200. Definitely a dinosaur compared to the y62. My boat and trailer weights 3400kg and the patrol does it alot easier.
The Toyota 79 is the most over rated tow vehicle on the market now and also way over priced. After buying one need to spend a fortune on them to make them into a reasonable 4WD but still old school.
So you pay 15k? For SC and do the 0-100kph 0.95 faster and use 9litres more per 100. Or ya drive it soft(normal) and achieve 29l per 100kms. Or you drive the nat aspro soft (normal) and get what 21.95l per 100kms.?? You'd be better off spending the money on gvm upgrade so you could carry someone and some luggage and a full tank of fuel with out being restricted when down ball weight increases, with patrol. I'm a fan of patrol but those numbers with a extra 130kw and 265nm @the wheels, over standard were not impressive at all. Maybe they restrict power off the mark to save trans and that wrecks the numbers! But in gear and at speed it probably dominates but we aren't aware.
11:45 lol...Love the way those documents weren't held, they were laid down smack on the sits. And love the smile too. She ain't keen on holding documents when she's about to put the v8 through it's tow challenge. Love your work guys. Blessings to you guys.
All depends on where the weight is positioned in the van and where axles are positioned if balanced correctly ya won't have much down force on the tow ball
Yes, it weighed in at 3500kg with 180kg over the ball during that test. The silver stock Patrol did sag a little and the Supercharged patrol has rear air bags fitted.
Like to see them driven without load too and also both driven with some sympathy to economy. Just to get the idea of what happens when you just gently surf the torque on the supercharged beast.
Whst a waste of time on soeef tests etc. If you do the sums on GVM and GCM for this vehicle it will only be legal with a 3500kg van if there is no luggage vehicle accesories or passengers. Nissan also put a weight penalty on top of the towball download. See John Cadigans review on overloaded towing and the false manufacturers claims on towing ability. This is irresponsible info media.
Agree - these tow tests are useless unless you include a weighbridge in your route. We all know Patrols etc etc can tow fine, but these days we’re concerned more about the legalities of GVM, GCM, TBW, axle weights and so on. Please do us a favour and provide this info rather than a gratuitous Sunday drive in your shiny patrol and van.
