2020 Nissan Versa | Best Value In America?

Nissan's Versa is probably best known for being one of the least expensive cars in America, but the 2020 Versa is trying to change that. Instead of selling on a low sticker price, Nissan is targeting value instead. The new 2020 model gives you more features for your dollar than the competition while also tossing in more active safety tech than anyone else. Can the new direction and the crisp looks make shoppers think of the Versa differently?

Yes but what Nissan failed to tell you is the Jatco CVT transmission might not last the car's 3yr/36000 mile warranty...had mine replaced under extented warranty at 42000 miles, on my 2016 Maxima...you've been warned...while at the Nissan dealership, saw quite a few Nissan's awaiting CVT transmission replacements and these where NOT old cars ...most where within 5 to 6 yrs old and not high mileage....talked to the lead mechanic, while he was away from the service advisor (service advisor tried to keep them away from the costumers for some reason) and when I asked him about Nissan's CVT's transmission failure rate ...he stated that Nissan is aware of the problem and working with Jatco to improve on design fix ....this came from the mechanic doing my transmission replacement

@princessdoddie
@princessdoddie 5 лет назад
Personal experience: have a 07 versa w/ 190,000 miles. At a stop sign, my car refused to move. This confirmed everything I've read about these JATCO CVT transmissions! Just tinkering around, I emptied the transmission fluid (was black and gunky) and dropped the pan. I've never seen a pan so dirty...it had so much "mud" on the bottom, the magnets were completely covered and overrunning their capacity to hold any more metallic particles. Needles to say, the two filters were clogged. I cleaned the oil pan and the filters with brake fluid, reinstalled and refilled with fresh synthetic fluid...car runs like new again. Since then, I've dropped the pan again to reinspect (after 15,000 miles) and it had already started to get dirty. Not to the extent of the original clean up, but a slight film. Car is still running without issues. Good luck.

My 2015 SV has been great with zero problems at 63K. Zero. I know Scotty K. and fans always bash the JATCO transmission (you can tell by the comments) but no complaints here and we've had three. I'm a mechanical engineer so I understand how a CVT works, why it operates a bit differently and frankly, I love it for being so MPG intelligent. 42 mpg avg. without fail, roomy as hell, and the most comfortable seats and entry/exit ever and that includes our Lincoln. Electric motors and added weight aren't necessary with the Versa to get comfy, zero gravity and NASA figured that all out. Cartoonish? who cares. I like it. Roof is high so driver sits comfortably high in a seat that's more like a chair. Plenty of head and rear seat room. With the seats down the thing swallows a lot. I thought the '15 was quiet but if you say the 2020 is even more so, I'm looking at it just hope they didn't lower it too much. Almost hate to move on as this one has been so good to us. I always appreciate Alex's balanced reviews in that he doesn't try to compare everything to a Bentley.

I'll look at this although my 2015 Versa SV is still serving me well, no problems or issues at all, and pretty quiet. The interior is enough, not fancy, but the high and very comfortable zero gravity seats and the high ceiling with easy in-out suit me fine on long trips, plus everyone remarks on how roomy the back seat and trunk are. I'll miss that. I usually choose this over my Audi A4 which I also love for very different reasons. I average 42 mpg and expect the new version will be about that. I bought a new Versa sedan when the redesigned model came out in 2012. It was a very practical cheap car and I thought it was a nice looking subcompact for the time. It also had a very refined driving personality for a cheap car. I learned quickly during my ownership that the quality was TERRIBLE though. I only kept the car 2yrs and 56k miles. In that time, the transmission was acting faulty, the paint started peeling, the front end (not sure if steering or suspension) started making clunking noise, there were quite a few squeaks and rattles. I didn't trust the transmission, so I traded it in before it failed. This new Versa is very appealing visually, but I will never buy a Nissan again until enough time has passed to prove their CVTs are dependable and overall quality has improved. It also bugs the hell out of me that every subcompact seems to get the same or worse fuel economy than if you step up to a compact size model with more room, better safety and more power. It makes subcompacts rather pointless if you can afford to spend a couple grand more and step up to a compact.

just picked up a 23 Versa SR in Texas over the New Yrs weekend, love the car, handles great, comfortable ride, the sound system pretty amazing! must be a Bose like my 22 Sentra SR had. only thing i don't understand is why it didn't come with fog-lights like the 2022 SRs have, and like the one in the video has. all there is where the fog lights are supposed to go are these blacked out fake vents that serve no purpose (videos on my channel, you'll see what i'm talking about), i think i'm gonna try to get a set of them through parts. but ya, doesn't make any sense! ☮

@@smoothestofbrains staticishock96 first the blower motor went out.. then the radiator fan.. alright no biggie.. then the car died one day with my 18 month old in the back seat.. So i figured maybe the fuel pump.. turns out the catalytic needs to be replaced, and the ecm.. these parts can be had on ebay but it cost 557 for nissan to diagnose after having it at 2 other shops.. I spent 2000 to find out the job was gonna be 3450 dollars .. now its sitting outside the house.. not running. i bought another car and still not sure what ill do with my 70k mile versa lemon..my advice is sell or trade in the 2015 asap.. they made a lot of changes that model year and all were bad. one example , the blower motor was switched to the driver side so the entire dashboard needs to come out to access it.. this is a 1200 dollar job .. on the older models it was behind the glove box and took about 45 minutes in less right in the driveway.. The wiring harness that goes to the fuel pump is also faulty half the time.. this can blow the ecm and the fuel pump.get rid of it before it all starts happening.

The Yaris is probably best in class. You can do better than the Fit, honestly. It doesn't have the driving dynamics as its last generation. It's also less spacious and the cargo capacity was compromised in the newer one. The last generation was made in Japan, and when Honda went to Mexico for the new Fit, the quality took a noticeable decline.

Still am slightly concerned about longevity (occasional rubber-band effect, ever so slight slip on take-off in really hot city driving), but so far, so good; just changing the fluid every 50k like any other tranny. This is a no for me. I have a 2018 Versa Note, and I am quite disappointed with Nissan for not making a hatchback version as I find a hatch to be more versatile. Second, the main selling point of the Versa and the Versa Note was the very generous room in the rear. It was and still is amazing how the rear can have that much room for a subcompact. But Nissan took it away. To me this is just s poor man’s Sentra. I love my Versa Note. But for my next subcompact, I’ll be looking at the Honda Fit.

@igotanimac1
@igotanimac1 3 года назад
The 2015 Nissan Versa is rated for 39 MPG in the highway. You should be getting 39 MPG if you drive at 56 MPH, if you go faster than that on the highway, forget it, you won't get 39 MPG. Also, make sure you do your maintenance. Spark plugs, air filter, synthetic motor oil, transmission fluid changes, balance tires, proper tire pressure, etc.

With a bit more hp and torque it could still get close to 40 mpg at 60 mph, but more fun to drive and less noise from the engine. Given their reliability I would suggest a 1-2 year old Corolla, Forte, Elantra or Civic instead of this. Then you would really be getting value for your money. A test drive in a Versa compared to a slightly used Corolla would convince you that new or a low price is not the best choice. I do give Nissan credit for improving this car, but the engine is really the weak link. Imagine what it is like with 4 adults and some luggage.

@@dannybishop68 That's absolutely true. I've had 7 brand new cars. Bought my 1st at age 20. You should always get something you're happy with. But today, used cars around 2 or 3 years old dont depreciate like they used to. And with good wheeling and dealing, you can usually buy brand new ,for pretty much what they want for the 2 or 3 year old one. And of course, there's always a gamble on what you're getting with used. I always wonder why someone would get rid of a 2 ....3 year old car in the 1st place. Lease?? Wouldn't want a lease as most people wont maintain it, and probably drive the hell out of it. Lemon?? Possibly. Anyway, I've been lucky, never owned a lemon! Just be careful if you do decide to go used. Insist on a good aftermarket warranty. And make THEM pay for it. They will!

I don't know how at this time a part of the cars community only focus on CVTs, economy and electric cars as the only option for a vehicle. Each person have a different necessity: Some humans are looking for economy, others want a vehicle to go from point A to B, some people come from the sport community and are car guys/girls that look for power and racing. I don't know how to express this, but the high performance in mid-cost vehicles is underrated. I'm not saying that a Nissan Versa is for racing, but every car need an opportunity to get involved in that side. For a car I expect to have a variety of options: Manual gearbox, Secuential automatic and why not a CVT. All I want to see is a balance between performance/response, strong acceleration, confort, security, technology and gentle support for families with kids and pets.
