Good morning everybody! Yes, this is an early morning upload but the embargo has finally lifted on the 2020 Versa we filmed last week. This is a car that has been completely reborn and while the previous generation was kind of a car you'd be embarrassed to be seen in, this NEW one is basically an Altima that shrunk in the dryer. While its no speed demon when you put your foot down, the exterior design, interior tech, impressive fuel economy, and strong value make the new 2020 Versa a really enticing pick if you're looking for a brand new car for under $20,000. No RPM rating on this video but once Nissan loans us one in DC, we will do another video with an RPM rating. Nissan says some of the Versa customers choose a Kicks last year which begs the question... Would you rather buy this or a 2019 Nissan Kicks?
I’d for sure buy a Versa over a Kicks simply because “Kicks” is one of the dumbest names of all time for a car. Telling people that I drive a Nissan Kicks would be downright embarrassing.
Erik Gonzalez our neighbor just traded there Versa with 250,000 miles on it today. No transmission issues. It’s all in how they are driven and maintained.
sad to say, i recently got into a wreck with this car! it wasn’t the cars fault (obviously) i fell asleep at the wheel... BUT this car did do amazingly well for how bad the wreck was. the windshield did not crack a bit, all air bags deployed and i got out of this car with just a seat belt burn and a couple torn muscles. this car saved my life and i’ll be going tomorrow to purchase another.
Too bad the manual transmission is only offered on the base trim. Nevertheless, this car offers a lot more for a budget Nissan than the previous versa.
@@johnfranklin5277 83K on one and 98K on the other. Commuter cars. I've replaced the CVT fluid every 30K. Yeah, its not cheap, but I learned a long time ago if you want any transmission to last and be trouble free over-maintain it.
Yeah, and it's not a bad fob at all. Still looks and feels decent in my opinion, and there have been a lot of cheaper and crappier switchblades and other types of fobs made than that one.
I think it's one of the best fobs and better than a lot of newer ones: it's ergonomic, it's small and fits nicely in hand, and has all the features you need for a fob. Why change it?
Dont waste money on nissan CVT Cars.my 2014 Sentra is standing in drive way for about a year now..6k left for payment 4.2k required to change transmission...Never getting Nissan again..garbage CVT
So ur car is 2014 and ran out of warranty already? Nice. Did u own the car just when u saw a review published bout a Nissan sedan after watching Scottys video? Not surprised in anyway
My car has 74k miles. The point here is when you buy a car you buy atleast it would last you 10year or 100k miles atleast(I did all the recomend services). The reason I chose Nissan is because of reliability. I am not saying all of their cars are having this issue. But point here is alot of people are facing this CVT issue. And I wouldn't but any car which wont last me 10-20miles above warrenty.
@@vishalsaini285 you chose Nissan because of reliability? You would been better off with a ford fiesta. Nissan is complete shit dude why do you think you can get a 2 year old Nissan for half the prius. You want reliability you go for toyota or honda
Agree..my 2014 Sentra is standing in drive way for about a year now..6k left for payment 4.2k required to change transmission...Never getting Nissan again..garbage CVT
Vishal Saini And I thought my friends 2013 Elantra GT was unimpressive... the fact that you are still making payments to a car that is not drivable is insane and I would be pissed if a shitty unreliable European brand starting taking over reliable Japanese brands like Honda Subaru and Toyota like what had happened to Nissan.
As always Sofyan, love your review. In my mind, this car, this type of car, is exactly where I most want to hear a review of how well the climate control system functions. We already know we are not going to have an enthusiastic drive. So I want to know am I at least going to be comfortable during the drive. Does the system adequately cool the car? Does the system seem to struggle? Is the fan so loud that it becomes annoying? And I know that you would cover these issues in a way that we could really understand and appreciate.
Nope, my sister just had to have her CVT replaced in her 2015 Pathfinder. Nissan and CVTs go together as well as peanut butter and anchovies. Needless to say they don't. I was actually considering a preowned 2015 Infiniti QX60, until I realized the drivetrain is the same as the Pathfinder.
Ultimately, it is your decision but we will say that Scotty is unfair when it comes to car recommendations to his audience. His views and opinions are based on his career as a mechanic but mechanics cannot say how a brand new design will hold up... nobody knows until the car is a few years old. Manufacturers make changes to their designs each time a car is redesigned and usually its for the better.
Are these in dealerships yet, or are they just letting you automotive guys get your first looks? Asking at the beginning of the video... Will delete if it gets answered
Kind of, it rides on the same platform but the Versa has an extra 4 inches in it's wheelbase and it's 20 inches longer overall. Also this 1.6 isn't available in the Micra.
I just bought my son the Electric Blue 2021 Versa SR. I have driven it and have rode in it as a passenger and the car looks, acts and feel like a smaller version of the Altima. It's roomy, drives well, agile and looks spectacular! So glad we made this purchase and most of ALL my son loves it!!!
Tevin T I just sold a pre owned 2018 Camry SE and it came with a regular key. So Nissan/Infiniti keyfobs are actually very nice and offer remote start feature on most of their vehicles
I would’ve never considered a Nissan, but the new Altima and Versa SR look appealing. I like that it doesn’t have direct injection, less maintenance cost and more reliable. Only real turn off for me is the CVT and the low horsepower.
The SR is great...has a sports mode button behind the shifter....great car....make sure to change the transmission fluid at 30000...at the dealership so u won't have problems....super car !
I actually enjoy the CVT. How long are those supposed to last anyway? I'm at ~180k miles on my 2011 Sentra without any issues. My 2008 Acura TL's transmission died in NM on a windy day at sadly ~120k miles. I drive very grandpa style (why I enjoy CVT) and follow the maintenance schedule near perfectly, perhaps the owners having issues don't drive as carefully. Not excusing Nissan, folk are having issues and I wouldn't expect everyone to drive as I do, specially with the "sporty" style they've been dishing out over the years. They should do something beyond the warranty extensions for older models- (which I took as self admitted design failure.)
@@Blissiel CVTs from Nissan is a complete hit or miss. My 2015 Altima's transmission gave out at 46k miles, repaired under warranty. Toyota uses CVTs but the craftsmanship is much better than Nissan's. Some Nissans last 100k+ miles and some not even 20k miles, really just a CVT lottery. In earlier models from 2010 (I think) or below have extended warranties for 10 years/100k miles whichever comes first.
Um... you keep saying it is not sporty... I have the same 2020 Nissan Versa SR and the same color, there is a button on the gear shift, press the button on the rear gear shift while in the D position and it will change to Ds and yep SPORTY!!!! It will respond more faster and speed up a lot more than normal drive. Maybe you forgot about that part? 🤔🤔🤔 and yes I know you made a video last year but hey time to update it lol
Nissan quality maybe dying but they are selling more cars than ever ! Rogue number 1 midsize suv. That crappy old versa sells like crazy. It’s cheap ! I mean my dealer sells them for under 10k But yes. Quality is down
mike finnity I Agree with you on this. But what makes the Honda a little more special is they don’t sell to rental car companies. I don’t believe they do ....at least not at the same level as Nissan and Toyota ...rental car companies are covered up with camrys and altimas but I don’t think you’ll ever see a rental accord
This is why Nissan is failing. They are all over the place and the company has no direction. How can your cheapest car have more space than your flagship. Nissan will not exist in 5 to 10 years.
I would buy the previous gen versa, i like this new one don't get me wrong but my gripes about this car is the rear legroom, 31.0 inches of rear legroom i was expecting alittle more than that now that they increased the lenght of this car and my second complaint is it has a CVT which I'll admit i never driven a car with a CVT but ive heard bad stuff about them.
Rigoberto Garza We have buying Nissans for well over 15 years and never once had an issue. From Maxima’s to Rogues and Altimas and Muranos. Never one issue. I’d rather buy a Nissan than anything Ford or GM.
Rigoberto Garza New Toyota’s are junk too. Also, they have uncomfortable seats and their infotainment system is from the Stone Age. The Camry SEs look cool but that’s it. I’ve had plenty of Camrys in my life and every single one of them gave me issues. My dad, who has been a Toyota Mechanic since 1970 even told me don’t buy the new ones. He also said if I’m going to buy something new just buy a Ford F-150.
That Weird Guy I will definitely not agree with those people. I have a 14 Sentra with 105,000 miles and it drives very far from brand new. Their cvt ruined all nissans and cvt’s for me. And this is my first car and I didn’t get a choice In what I had. I am worried how much longer my transmission will give me, where I am just hoping it will last me until I finish paying it off
Buying a Nissan is a gamble when it comes to reliabilty. Just like buying a Chrysler product. You are better off spending a couple thousand more and buying a base model Corolla or any used Toyota. It will be a better investment in the long run. Nissan is lost and confused, ever since the French(Renault) took over. There’s been scandals with CEOs, most of their models are old, no new technology etc. Not to mention that all Nissan cars look the same.
PrimusPilusVorenus That’s kind of ironic that Nissan started the CVT trend because almost every other brand that does CVTs do it better than Nissan does. Nissan’s CVTs are the laughing stock of the automotive industry.
For the price, NIssan did an amazing job considering its great looks, size , engine hp and amenities. BUT it is still a NISSAN with a JATCO CVT transmission
Nissan will soon just have the same car but in S, M, L, XL sizes. It’s just a lazy design. I hope the new Z (and GTR) do not get this same Maxima design going on with all their models
We love your reviews! I try to tell my AAA members to check out these reviews to learn about cars and how they compare to one another before making a purchase!
This class is for people that dont want a car but have no choice to get one due to traveling to work in different town. Insurance is cheap and this car is great in gas mileage
4 years ago I purchased a 2014 Nissan versa Sv for my girlfriend not knowing anything about Nissan vehicles or their reliability. I think she only liked it due to blue color. But here were are 4 years later, vehicle now has 115k miles on it, and have had 0, major issues,.and that includes the CVT transmission although there are lots of bad reviews.
@@josem1596 This 2020 Versa is $20,000. Previous generation 2018/2019 Versa's on dealer lots will probably be heavily discounted to clear inventory, possibly in the $9K-$10K range. Follow my logic now, amigo?🤨🤨
I’m looking at either buying this car or the 2019 Hyundai Accent. Hyundai gives you a 10 year warranty Nissan only 5 years. I keep hearing about issues with the CVT
@@moeanthony9308 Going to have to disagree, my 2005 kia spectra went almost 110.000 miles without a single issues when I sold it. My 2017 ELANTRA I bought new, is at 67.000 miles now. 0 issues, 0 repairs. Seems Honda's are dumping gas in their crankcase in unacceptable amounts, so much for engine longevity there, and their civics have been plagued with electronic issues, and TOYOTA has been having transmission issues. I've done my homework 1st hand as a owner, and my results speak for themselves. 0 problems, 0 repairs, 0 issues.
@@johnfranklin5277 ok Mr Franklin. Chee I have to remember the whole thread, been awhile. First off. I mentioned one car that happened to be a Honda and very reliable car. I never said anything about Toyota or other Honda vehicles. Second. In Honda's defence. Honda is not dumpling gas. Every car has oil dilution it just a case of more than excessive gas was or is mixing with oil in cold weather regions. It's apparent the fix was solved by a soft ware up date. You really think Honda would continue to sell thousands of vehicles with this issue? And continue to outsell. Lastly great you had zero issues. Toyota has had minimal tranny issues. Corolla at start of the new Gen was corrected. If I was betting man you personally are against the odds. Hyundai has had major severe recalls that are so bad, cars blew up. Recall after recall twice the other two you mentioned. You are comparing a rickety old Spectra plain as day with technically advanced car that of course will have more glitches. They all do. Lastly, I can re sell them two fold with less depreciation. Count your blessings but to each is own. A fit will out last an accent easily. Do the research for longevity. You want to go there with other cars, sell a Sante fe against a Rav over 5 years. See what you get between both. I await your rebuttle. Lol dumping gas. Good one.
Never liked the Versa at all, but I must say I like this new one. Love the look of the exterior and interior as it looks upscale for a small car. Looks really sharp with the orange exterior paint too!
saviorx e60 I like the look or the Mirage GT and Mirage G4 SE too myself. I personally like the engine in the Mirages I know its low on power but its very basic and simple and easy to maintain and work on. I loved my 2015 Mirage ES CVT and I love my 2017 Mirage G4 SE CVT. Good little cars with amazing MPG and tons a standard features. I took a trip from Cumberland MD to Hagerstown MD last week with 3 people in the car and I averaged 49 MPG going down and 47 MPG coming back and this includes the large mountain climbs each like sidling hill. I maintained a stead 70 MPG while going up sidling hill no problem. I admit the Mirage is a little sluggish with the CVT but I dont even notice it anymore and it has never caused me any issues. Now a turbo 3 cylinder would be cool which the next Mirage is rumored to have the 0.9L 3 cylinder turbo we shall see but would have more horsepower and torque!
When I first saw the Versa, I actually thought it was an Altima cause of the back of the car looks exactly like the Altima. I swear this Versa and the Altima are twins. 🖤💙
My family has had this car for 5 years already and we’ve never had a problem with it breaking down. We live in California and have traveled up and down California at least twice a year ever since we got it as well as using it everyday, the car is not as bad as people say I think :)
In 1992 the Honda Civic with the 1.6 SOHC VTEC engine made more hp at 125.... so thats 27 years ago.... so that means that this car is extremely pathetic
Why are midsize trucks more expensive or just afew 1000 cheaper then a full size truck? I've been looking for a truck but don't need a Silverado or f150. But in Canada the ranger is more expensive then the f150 by 2000. Why is this? That's like this versa being more money then a Altima
I got a 2020 nissan versa sv in monarch orange and i love it. i'm a toyota girl but thats just the car i ended up leaving the lot with lol i think i dropped the gun too fast and didnt bother to see what else other cars i could potentially buy 😂 but its all good, i'm GRATEFUL. GOD IS GOOOOOOOD!!!!! I have videos of my car on my channel as well.
I rented a 2019 Versa, and my impression was it was cheap, harsh riding, and plain awful. I rented a 2020 Versa, and I was impressed with its smoothness and comfort especially for a subcompact. I hope Nissan makes a comeback to competitiveness now that Mr. Ghosn is gone and also that JATCO gets its act together with CVT reliability. More competition and better choices for us consumers.
Cvt xtronic Service is a real thing! No lifetime fluid horseshit Nissan recommends every 30k. Get this.......My Nissan dealer charges $189.99 for the service. Holy shit man. My 17 rogue is sitting on 30k. I do have a 15% off coupon
Came from a 2018 Corrolla and gotta say this car is not too bad ! Same color and trim and so far loving it 😊 bought a wireless CarPlay adopter and definitely adds a nice touch 👌
The fact that I can lease a fully loaded SR Versa for 36 months for under $200 a month is very tempting. If you're ok with leasing the base model than you can expect payments to be in the $125 to $145 a month range, that's insane for a car that looks as good as it does with all of the features that it brings, great job Nissan.
Come on Nissan if you weren’t in such a financial rut, I’d be complaining more about the fact you have not changed your keyless entry fob ever Like Honda/ Acura has gone through like 5 different versions
