How good does the Cayenne Coupe sound with an exhaust?! Paul tests the entry level to the Porsche Cayenne Coupe range - now fitted with a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine and a swoopy rear design that sets it apart from the regular Cayenne. Is it any good, though? Watch and find out!

I am looking at replacing my 2017 Range Rover Sport HSE Dynamic SDV8 with either one of these or the Audi Q8. Will be test driving next week. This video is quite helpful. Just need to find a good review on the Q8.

@carExpert - is the Porsche sports exhaust system really makes any difference specially when this an e hybrid engine? I like the sporty sound but not sure if I should go for PSE or aftermarket exhaust on my e hybrid.

If Porsche make just a few basic feature standard without jacking up he price too much, Cayenne will out sale X5 I mean it is one of the best looking SUV out there

A good review as always. I love Porsche but man they love an option! Some things that are not standard is just ridiculous. Keyless entry, radar cruise....all standard on 30k Hyundai's but optional on a 130K Cayenne. Crazy.

When I was younger, people often spoke about people buying a car “for the badge” and at the time I assumed luxury cars were nicer versions of mainstream cars, better in every way - it didn’t make sense to me - if it was better, what was wrong with getting it and surely it wouldn’t be about the badge as it’s a plain better car. Now that I’ve seen things like this over the years, especially in a position to fully research and decide between an entry level Audi vs a fully specced out Mazda/Skoda for similar pricing, still favouring the latter. Yes the luxury car usually drives better but mainstream cars are truly catching up with every generation - but I also can’t deny there is brand value in a badge. While a $130k car will drive better than a $30k car, this is to be expected with that extra $100k overhead, and no feature on a cheaper car should be optional. It does point to brand value that they think they aren’t on the same playing field, and that within VAG Group someone will pick a VW over a Skoda, a Audi over a VW, a Porsche over an Audi (or BMW) and in that way they don’t truly have to be competitive to “lesser” brands. A Skoda Octavia Limited Ed has things for a third of the price (Matrix LED headlights, heated, ventilated, electric, massage front seats, multicolour ambient lighting, rear seat 3rd climate zone and heated rear seats with sunshades, wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, full digital cockpit) that will cost more than the entire price of the Skoda to option on an already $150k base price Porsche, really boggles my mind.

Great detailed review. Thank you. May I please suggest to expand the interior hardness measurements and obtain data also on the front and rear doors, middle console etc. I noticed that many car journalist talk only about the soft materials and neglect often the cheap scratchy hard plastics that can be usually found on the top and side of the centre console and the bottom part of the doors. I am not sure that there is any value to add a quantitative value and measure just the top dash and the middle front armrest that is almost always soft. Another very useful measurements would be standardised acceleration time measurements, e.g. 60-100 km/h as well as loudness measurements in dB at 110km/h. If you would also create a table to compare individual cars that would be great. Not many RU-vid reviewers do quantitative measurements that would allow direct comparisons between cars in addition to qualitative and subjective assessments. Many thanks.

Thanks for the feedback, Adams. We'd love to extend the testing, but it would eat up more of our time. We will try and include a paint thickness test as well for something different.

thanks for a great review, I see this car pretty much the same 👍 at first I thought the brake rotors are somewhat small for a Porsche - it was because I've seen the Turbo S review lately 🙂 anyway, with Porsche - as with any other German premium makes - options are plentiful and expensive. but what I really don't like are those shiny, finger-print catching piano black pieces and touch elements instead of proper physical buttons - but in some way it's better to have greyed out icon of missing feature that you barely see rather than "spacer" button doing nothing. bottom line, if I should pick my top sporty premium SUV, I'd go for Porsche, despite Q8 looking much more better.
@CarExpertAus
@CarExpertAus 4 года назад
Good points all round, @Car Mojo! The piano black is hard to keep clean and a little frustrating to deal with. Brake sizing on SUVs is hard work, especially when they stick big wheels like on this car. The brakes end up looking small despite being comparatively huge!

Porsche appears to have really upped their game with the connectivity app. Some good features and better design than the BMW Connected app. Some really well thought out stuff throughout the car. Reminding customers of the options they didn’t check with those non-functional buttons is kind of unforgivable though. Is that sports response function overboost? As for the Taycan, that’s where the game is headed, I guess. Haven’t driven one, but I have driven a 911, and I wonder if an electric vehicle could have that same charm and excitement. Keep up the great work. 👍🏻
@CarExpertAus

Thanks for the comment! Yes, the Sport Response button is a kind of overboost. It just reduces any lag on throttle applications.

@edgarchieng2130
@edgarchieng2130 4 года назад
It's a really good SUV, unlike you I don't actually mind the rear design, I actually think it looks slightly better than the Mercedes/BMW coupe SUV rear look, however the front is just bland and very VW like with all the horizontal lines design. I also don't have good experience with gloss piano black buttons and trim finishes, they smudges as soon you touch them and almost entirely scratches after you wipe them clean. The infotainment is good but then again I hate touch-based UI since they leave fingerprint smudges everywhere and this particular UI is a bit challenging to interact with your hands and fingers as the menu buttons are small and tucked right to the edges, definitely hard to use while driving.
@CarExpertAus
@CarExpertAus 4 года назад
Great feedback, Edgar. You're right on the design front! It's very subjective :-D and agree with piano black. The stuff is insanely hard to keep clean. Not sure why manufacturers keep using it!
