Just from the opening minutes, Rudy, I agree: the 90's were something. I miss them. Miss the days before the internet when everyone wasn't totally connected all the time. My friends and I would wander the streets of our small town during summer vacation for hours and sometimes there would be no car driving through the street the whole time. The worst news you heard, especially as a kid, was stuff from your parents or maybe if you flipped through a news channel on TV, but somehow we survived without being told every morning the worst news happening around the world. Even something about the air and the light seemed different back then. All of us who did should be thankful that we got to live through the 90's: a decade of relative peace, things weren't too complicated, life was good.

It's not the powerhouse set that Stronghold Exodus or Urza's block is but I agree that the sealed boxes are undervalued at $500. I wouldn't be surprised if this box where to go to $1000 in 5 years time.

Lotus Field in Core 2020 is the improved Lotus Vale. It's the exact same card with hexproof.

@@shuboy05 Lotus Field is even better then just adding hexproof because you can use the mana before sacrificing the lands. Lotus Vale makes you sac "untapped" lands making it objectively worse because you have to take off the entire turn to play one land.

5:37 Rudy, you really need to talk to people who actually play MTG! 😂 It's going up in price because the demand for that card is increasing. But why??? Because it's the only piece of Power that is legal in EDH. cEDH players use that card, so demand for that card is increasing.

In the early to mid 90's, I was starting my family and my daughter was born. I used to see these cards for something called Magic the Gathering when I would go to the mall and hang out in the gaming stores while my wife shopped. I always wanted to buy and get into it, but just did not know anyone else interested and really did not have the time or money with my family just starting. I now have the time, but I feel like I have missed far too much to get into it now. These videos always make me wish I had just started back then anyhow.

Vwlss Nvwls i started playing mtg in school around 1999-2000, dropped mtg in 2002 when my gaming group in school fell apart and I pursued my Warhammer 40k hobby. At the time I thought that i will never play magic again. I even had my own toy store which was selling mtg in 2008-2009, but even this didn’t push me to return. And now, almost 20 years later, I found enough time, company and enthusiasm to try MTG once more. Looking back is painful: i had full store of old mtg displays, and I sold my store (and whole inventory of it) for less than these booster boxes cost today. For much less.

I know that the video is not about deck boxes but I saw you so impressed by that one where the library was in and I'd like to say that I only buy Ultimate Guard products to protect my mtg cards because they make all good quality stuff. The price is a bit more expensive than the rest of the choice on the market but every single cent you pay more than the rest is well spent. Since I've tried the Katana card sleeves I've bought nothing but those ones. IMHO too much quality a player shouldn't do without.

James Netherian plus they all have downsides built in, they tap for 0 mana on their own. So they force u to play decks around them, and even then sometimes it’s hard to get any mana out of them on turns 1 and 2. If they all tapped for one colorless mana as well as the normal abilities they each have, they would truly have no downside.

@@bumpasaurus487 absolutely. But purely said about the card mechanic itself, if you have like 14 entchantments out and tap it you are pretty much dead. Well... 14 was a random number. But you get what I mean

James Netherian ya, true, but some of the enchantments may have mana sinks too. Like that one that makes Pegasuses for every 2 mana, ( Sacred Mesa is the card) so worst case u only burn for 1 mana with that one

uuuhh Nether Void, that's something I'd like for my 'personal' deck. Cheapest english one on ebay was $399. Metalworker falls prey to shock and has a 3mc, it's a great card but those draw backs are big.That Destiny Hollow is one spicy taco.

Scroll Rack was very underappreciated by others, but an important card in my Hatred combo deck. Everything revolved around Mox Diamond, Hatred, Dark Ritual and Raging Goblin. Wrecked everyone I played against.

People with some manual dexterity issues use blades for opening things. I know a guy who did that for his packs. He usually tried for the top open though.

Mind over matter is in my nekusar commander deck. I love all the old cards especially the art but I wasn’t alive in the 90s and only started playing more now I used to play a bit in 2014. I play my dad in magic and I have family who also plays magic as well mainly my uncles. I did get some cards from my dad and uncle but I also have bought some myself I don’t have many value cards though.

Just stumbled on your channel, really cool stuff. I used to play magic when my cousin came to visit when we were kids in the late 90s he owned the decks, my parents never let me buy them haha. Been thinking about magic lately. Maybe I'll start collecting. Not sure if I know enough about magic to collect for investment purposes. But I like the art lol. I might pick up some newer sets from Theros and Ikora to collect and play around with kitchen table style like back in the day. Thanks for the content!

i think its a scratch from something abrasive on a play surface. people didnt really use sleeves much until 2003 or so

that pearl has a long scratch indet on the back you can see at the last few seconds of holding it. also the reason timetwister spiked.. narset leovold when one of those are out you draw 7 and they draw 0 thats why wheel spiked also

Ok, so just to clarify..you said the condition of a card could go from near mint to below poor if its inked. It wont even get a grade if it's inked. For purposes of grading it's worthless. No grader will grade it. Just letting you know.

Rudy- serious question: I hear you speak a lot about holding onto boxes and waiting time for them to go up, but I don’t recall you talking about how well they actually sell at that point? Do older boxes sell a lot? Or is it more of here and there? I can’t imagine a $600-1,300 box selling a ton, but I could be wrong. Thanks if you read this. Might be a good video!

He is treating them like bonds. Retail legends was 80$. Selling today at 14k and change for annualized return of 22+%. He expects to beat investment grade bond rates (see PJH).

he doesnt have huge quants of stuff that old it seems, most of the racks and racks of boxes he has are post-2000. still valuable and im sure he knows what hes doing, but its tremendously risk, labor and storage intensive vs say investing in apple. the real problem with it, and i love his channel, is that his hoarding keeps this product away from players who might use, enjoy, love the cards

@@harrisong1900 not sure stocks are what you should be comparing his MtG investments to, they are being used more like bonds imo. That said you have maintenance fees. Still, if you wanted to bring 10k into a country undeclared, it's easier to take one mtg card then fiat or precious metals.

If the guy has owned most of these since the early 90's then he's done really well but still, I feel bad for him that he's forced to sell now given how much the values have dropped compared with 2 years ago.
