New subscriber. Found your channels looking for stuff about the AirSpy HF+ Discovery and YouLoop. When I became active in ham radio again a couple of years ago after almost 20 out of the hobby I was blown away at the advances. I went looking specifically for HF capability a couple of years ago and it opened up such an incredible world. Remember when all you could do was spin a dial, never knowing if you missed something the moment you have tuned away? I remember. No more. It is all right there. Good stuff!

Very good channel. Looking to get into SDR but sooooo many to choose from. You explain very well, what they can do and which might be best for my needs. Half the problem is knowing what you want when your not aware of what is available. Found episode 3 first, but now watching them in the correct order. Very well done and very enjoyable. Thank you.. Great intro to the subject. I found your channel while looking up how to build a basic collections station in house. I did it in the military so it’ll be a fun hobby to get back into

I'm in! I just bought an SDR so I could listen to ATIS and my local tower. However, there was NO DOCUMENTATION or help that came with it - so... I just spent 3 hours poking around my tower frequencies and ATIS (which should be a constant broadcast of audio). Oh I can hear the local radio station fine, but I quickly realized there must be much I'm missing and the learning curve must be steep. I'm so glad I stumbled on to your channel - this first step video was exactly what I was looking for THANKSS!!!!

I am a rail fan. A couple of weeks ago, I ran into another railfan with a laptop, antenna and dongle. He was trying to pick up radio signals of train and track equipment. He could not get it to work. I think this would be an awesome use of it. If it works. I look forward to learning more from your channel!

Thanks for the video...just passed my UK Foundation exam and looking forward to discovering more about SDR's so I can build my own.

I started using sdr's 20 years ago when the technology was just gaining some interest from a few people. I also have bought one of these dongles but never used them often as they are very fast overloaded and could only receive VHF and UHF. The dynamic range of these dongles is only 50 dB or less due to the 8 bit ADC in use. In 2008 the Microtelecom Perseus came on the market wich was the first real worthy SDR and today still an bit of a benchmark. With a 14 bit ADC and good bandpass filters it was a real gamechanger. From this a number of 16 bit ADC also with good FPGA's just like the Perseus where released which are even cheaper. For me sdr's like the latest SDRplay models are worthy radio's that are not expensive and are far better than the dongles. The nice thing about these is that they have adopted part of the dongle components and made a good machine with bandfiltering. These models are usable and affordable, just like a Airspy R2, Airspy HF+ Discovery the Lime SDR etc... I no longer use dongles as they restrict me in my radio hobby. They are cheap, but you restrict yourself in your hobby. Receiving Navtex with a dongle will give you no pleasure. There are also the ELF/VLF/LW/MW and SW bands to recieve. This said, I hope you will mention the restrictions of dongles in a future video and show the viewers what a good quality SDR can do and maybe compare real live results so one can see the difference. This will be very revealing for all. Give all the info to the viewers and not restrict yourself to dongles, who in fact where not designed for what we do with it today. Looking forward to your future productions.

I'm a stage tech and use sdr on my mobile. I have took it to many gigs and listened to in ear monitors. I do have the privilege of going to the wireless unit to look at the frequency its transmitting on. It works well.
