Awesome! I used to be an avid scanner listener, but that was really 20 - 25 years ago. Now I recently got the idea to pick up this hobby again and I was looking for a nice second-hand scanner. Until I discovered SDR this week! Of course I immediately placed an order, but until it is delivered I can certainly get by with these online SDRs! And of course with the rest of the episodes of SDR guide! Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Greetings from the Netherlands.

@FrugalRadio
@FrugalRadio 3 года назад
Thanks for the positive comments. Regarding PC-HFDL, maybe try uninstalling & reinstalling. It should run for 5 minutes at a time before closing. If it is crashing after selecting the VB cable, see what happens when you pick a different audio device (even if no receiver is connected to it), just to see if it runs. If it does, then the issue might be with the drivers for the virtual cable (perhaps a reinstall would fix). If it doesn't run with another audio device selected, then that suggests the problem would be Windows / software. You could try running it in compatibility mode too see if that helps. Good luck with your troubleshooting!

There are new projects emerging all the time that allow for transmit capabilities. Devices like the Pluto, and Hack RF also facilitate this. Now there are some projects for Raspberry Pi that turn it into a transmitter. However there are strict rules around transmitting in most countries. If that is an area you would like to experiment with, I would suggest obtaining an Amateur Radio license. This basically gives you several sets of frequencies to talk to others, or perform all kinds of radio related experiments 🙂
