Folks, Nick is right on with this review. I've used this reel for the past couple of months, and totally agree with Nick's review. In reference to the price, it's in line with great reels in this catagory. Everyone would like to go into a car dealer and pay $18,000 for a $50,000 car. We all know that doesn't happen, have to pay a price for quality stuff. Good luck everyone!!

Really great video.. dined deciding to switch to Shimano I have been wanting the metanium and I finally saved up enough to get one. I paired it with a zodias!! Wholly Molly everything u said definitely true. My other real is the bantam!! I like the bantam too but it’s a bit heavier(I will use that for topwatsr frogs and Texas rigging). Really love ur videos!!

Let me get this straight. You said 11lbs of drag will stop a bull red in its tracks? What do you consider a bull reds size, in relation to stopping it with 11lbs of drag. Just a question buddy, not trying to discredit your comment.

Bull red is anything 28 1/16” or bigger. As per TPWD. And trust me when this reel is hooked up to a 45” bull it has no problem with stopping and turning her around. Maybe 10 min fight with the big old girl. What you have to realize is that we catch reds in the skinniest of waters. Witch restricts the fighting power of a bull red. Now when that same bull is caught out in the jetties , well it’s gonna be a while. Due to the fish being able to dive.

@@captoscar.estringel thank you sir. Makes sense, but I've been on bull reds in the 35-42 inch range in 4 feet of water with heavy drag and 30lb braid and they're just torpedos. Great video though. Thanks.

Review was great. I own 2 and love em’. Drag power is a marketing hype. I agree 11lbs of drag is adequate to land giant fish. I’ve landed Muskies over 50” and did fine. The smoothness of the drag is what really matters and the new Met 20s deliver big time. However, I don’t think the new Met 20’s are smooth. I have older Shimano and Daiwa reels that are cheaper and just as smooth, if not smoother.

Hey, can this reel cast 1.5 oz lures? On their page it states max 1 oz, but I was hoping it might cast a bit heavier lures. A response would be the tie breaker for me.

I’ll use a shower blow 125 which is 26g or 15/16oz. I have not tired anything over that but the reel does an amazing job. I use the jdm version as seen in the video.

Does the drag still feel tight after loosening it all the way? I never had a shimano reel that does that besides the Calcutta 300te? Just want to make sure I didn't purchase a defect from Japan

I had the same issue with my U.S. version. There was a few pounds of drag even when backed off all the way. There is a easy fix for it. I took the handle off and put it back on and left the screw that holds the handle on a little looser than it came from the factory and it worked fine. The handle screw was on really tight.

@@bucac1213 I didn't have any problem with my Curado 70mgl, Curado 150mgl's or my 19' Antares. Just with the 3 Metaniums I own. I have the U..S. Met. 150, the JDM 22' shallow edition and the 23' JDM all had the same issue until I un-tightened the handle screw. They're all fine now but I just don't know how this gets through Shimano's quality control???

Have both. Zillion all day everyday. The met can cast a mile, but if the wind changes, you cast a different direction, you change lures, or even change cast style and you'll be readjusting the metanium to get it right, all day long. The Zillion doesn't need much tuning, maybe a click or two on the brake dial and that's it.

@@ETuss713 yes i agree with you. Not having much problem if you cast into the wind using zillion. For metanium you will get backlash if there’s wind. You need to cast in the opposite direction or using shimano dc

I've checked all the JDM websites and you'll not fine a better price than Digitaka. I ordered 17 reels from them in the last 1 1/2yrs. since the Yen has been down vs. the U.S. dollar. I only had to send one back that was a little Geary. Just make sure if you want line, buy it with the reel. When you buy line only, the shipping is expensive.

Would you recommend the xg over the other 2 gear ratios? Looking for an all around bait caster the xg has the longer handle coming from Japan.

Thank you for the interesting and informative video! I also plan to purchase Metanium 2020, only in the HG version. Unfortunately, dealers do not supply this model to Russia, you will have to order it in an online store in Japan or Ali express. The only thing that confuses in the technical part of this model is a plastic endless screw, along which the eye of the logger moves. After all, according to the classics, it should be metal. How weak can this place be, in your opinion? Please dispel my doubts! Sincerely from Moscow!

I’ve been using the 2020 Metanium for about 6 months on saltwater use. I’ve had no issues whatsoever. I’ve caught a lot of inshore saltwater fish with it. Obviously metal would be better but it’s fine as is.

What about the spool? Braid tends to absorb and hold the salt. Won’t it ruin your spool over time?

It can if you put heavy line but there are better options out there for bigger lures like the tranx.

I have a cl 200 clais and two conquest 50s, just got the metanium 7.1 it has a slightly bigger handle than the conquest and a little less smoother, have yet to cast it

Hi bro..have a question for you. Is activating (ON) 2 out of the 4 tiny sliding blocks (braking) from the side plate, performs better? Or just leave (factory setting) the way it is. Mine has all 4 OFF when unboxing. TQ

I set it 2 on and 2 off on all my reels. You can leave it off if you have a magic thumb. I don't get why some folks leave it at factory. Its personal preferences depending on what you are casting.

the jdm version is a size 100 spool and the usdm is a size 150 spool

The U.S. version holds more line, has brass gearing and larger handle. The spools are the same diameter wide but the U.S. version is deeper.

hi bro.is it this reel suitable for bfs setup.i want to buy and pair it with my zodias 6-12lb..im in the middle between aldebaran bfs and this metanium..because this mtanium they said suitable for all around fishing..sry for my bad english..greet from malaysia..

If you want true bfs, the aldebaran bfs will be better for you. If you want versatility, metanium is a good choice.

my target fish is snakehead and peacock bass at different fishing spot(open water/heavy cover).with the budget i have,so i will proceed with metanium..for bfs setup mybe ill wait for slx bfs launched..tq bro for the reply...happy fishing..
