This video was incredibly helpful! With our last Subaru, my husband and I tried to link the car’s home link button with the garage door opener and nearly ended up divorced :-)
Depending on the opener I think you probably can if you press a pairing button on the unit. Having a functioning opener does make the process easier though. (I’m not certain about this, but I paired a different kind of opener on my motorcycle using that technique.)
