Coming from a current owner, as he said any potential buyer should wait for the new gen. And I don't think Subaru will stray away from the OG formula considering how conservative they have been. From what I've gathered from spy websites, next gen WRX will closely resemble the all new JDM levorg (which is not a bad thing at all) However, the fact remains, this is still the absolute performance bargain for around 26k. Just keep in mind that you are not going to get any fancy interior or tech/creature comforts with the current gen (matter of fact those are crappy) so if that bothers you, you should definitely wait for the next gen. But what you are getting is more than enough power, a simple yet robust AWD system, and a family approved practical car with huge community and aftermarket support. Also knowing that these have high resale value/used market demand will let you sleep better at night if you have to take out a loan to purchase the car like most of us do lol.

The near total lack of (new) safety technology has been a plus, to me. I've just never been a fan of it. I feel like, to some degree, it encourages drivers to actually be less safe, less attentive. The real world R&D is still too young for me to engage with it all. (That read kinda weird, sorry.) I will concede, though -- my neck and lower back thank the backup camera.

Love the 2020 WRX. Fun daily driver and can fit your family. Hits higher revs faster than STI which makes it a fun daily, but sti is obviously the choice when it comes to the track. Downside is trunk space (for family) can't put kids bikes in the back. And the rev hang is so annoying if you want to launch it or drive fast. Note the rev hang is NOT noticable if you are daily driving and shift a little slower. Personally I would get this WRX 2020 instead of the next gen because we all know how the 1st year of current Gen had issues to work out. 2020 WRX is perfect as it's the last year before the switch. And people complaining about the color, just get the classic WRX blue for cheap and mod the heck out of it to your desired look. This ceramic white with the red brembos and bronze rims look really amazing in person
@CurtGodwin

I picked up a 2020 WRX STI Series.White for not much more than the WRX - and I love it. I had a 2019 WRX (which was OK...except for that rev hang), and I think the STI is just as compliant on asphalt as was the WRX. Those Bilstein dampers are very good.

@alextodd4587
@alextodd4587 4 года назад
@@Kiss__Kiss Sure. I loved my 2011 WRX. It was a daily driver of about 75 miles round trip through curvy hills and a touch of highway. However, it was closing in on 120k miles, the power steering was a persistent issue, the suspension was in need of repair, and I feared a head gasket failure as the motor was slowly starting to consume my coolant. Additionally, loading up 4 kids daily to take to school/daycare was a headache each morning and felt like trying to wedge everyone into a miniature clown car. I figured the Outback had more rear hip room for car seats, leg room for my children as they grow, more cargo capacity, better creature comforts, the ability to tow, and a similar engine that puts out better mpg with regular unleaded instead of premium. The 2020 Touring XT came with Nappa seats (which are awesome!), ventilated front seats (can't tell they work at all), slightly better mpg (avg 26.5mpg), fuel savings of about $65 per month (due to inc. mpg and dec fuel price), steering responsive LED headlights (unbelievably fantastic on curvy roads at night), Eye Sight, and the best looking center console Subaru has ever released (which is horribly glitchy, a pain in the butt, hard to use while driving, resets/turns off occasionally for no known reason, and the biggest overall reason I'm considering switching vehicles again.) I can not sum up this last part any better then this... I hate hate hate hate hate this center console, the glitches, the slow processing, the interface, the lack of physical buttons, and the cumbersome process of turning off the auto start stop. It does however have the ability to update, so I am just hanging in there hoping Subaru pulls their head out of their tailpipe and creates a new and better software version to use. I would also be remiss if I didn't mention the "fun" factor. The WRX is fun. Pure and simple fun. The exhaust note... The bolsters holding you as you corner... The press of your seat when you accelerate... The feeling that you could have gone faster if you had wanted to (that the car could handle it). The Outback offers none of this to me. It's comfortable, yes, very much so. It's quite. The stereo is better. There is more room. The headlights don't suck. But I also no longer look forward to my drive. It can't corner like the nimble WRX, it doesn't accelerate well due to it's CVT, basically, it's not fun like my WRX was. Instead of a daily experience, my drive is now a simple commute. A very comfortable yawn.

Alex Todd Thank you for that awesomely detailed response. Our 2017 is great as well, although silent(Sure you can add an exhaust but still doesn’t have that rumble), it gets better gas mileage than any of our old EJ series engines. But I wholeheartedly understand what you mean about missing that raw, exhilarating experience. I almost want to go back to a 2004-2007 GD Chassis STI. As far as a SW Update to the ICE? If it was me, I’d skip because at the end of the day, it sounds like you have already made up your mind, and a SW Update won’t change your mind 100% Good Luck, Sir. In 2018 90% of WRXs were sold with a manual. It wouldn’t make any sense to get rid of it for the next generation. What I thought was interesting is 78% of BRZs sold with a manual, but only 33% of 86s did. Subi people just love manuals I guess.
@confidentlocal8600
@confidentlocal8600 3 года назад
One reason I've considered a WRX (and its much slower relative, the Crosstrek) is the lack of in-your-face tech in both vehicles. Less crap to distract and annoy the driver and fail out of warranty. I test drove both and found them both refreshingly clean and simple compared to everything else out there. Frankly, if Subaru goes all-in on the tech and drops the manual, it will join a crowded field of expensive, tech-laden, automatic cars that are just as fast, get better fuel economy, and are more comfortable. At that point, I'd rather go full-on cheap and save my money, or opt for a GTI which still has a manual transmission and can have some of the more annoying stuff turned off with VCDS.

After driving my '19 base for 11 months, I've come to the conclusion that going limited trim or this series.white is the better way to go. Even though all trims suffer from most of the same flaws, these two trims would make them less noticeable/more tolerable. My base isn't bad, just a bit bland. My only aversion to the series.white is the color; don't want a white car.

With the absolute 360 view you get in a WRX base model. If you have ANY ability to rotate your neck, and have been taught to make head checks a routine part of driving before changing lanes, then blind spot or side view monitoring is redundant for a driver of a drivers car? Thoughts?

No way they are getting rid of the manual. We all know Subaru is glacial when it comes to change. It's the same reason why there's no turbo on the Crosstrek. Does it sell as is with a manual? Yes? Then that's how you'll get it for the next 5 years. Like you said, it's cheaper for them to just keep using the current 6MT. I'll even go so far as to say the WRX will be the last car you can buy on earth with a stick ten years from now. The generation after this next one? That might be a bit more up in the air.

Subaru won't get rid of manual. I know they are phasing it out but not this next gen no way. Until the crosstrek has no option is when maybe wrx will lose it. SAVE THE MANUALS GUYS!!!

No one is going to be buying these racer Subaru’s. Only the boring Subaru SUVs and wagons are able to sell, why? Because the demographics who Marginally could buy the new WRXs are basically struggling for cash whereas the demographic that can afford to buy Subaru’s SUVs and wagons are older and more asset rich, which when govts globally are printing money, are the section of the population that does not fall behind economically. And it’s not like banks want to lend money to young. 20-30 year olds compared to 40-50 year olds.

A nice car for sure! It is a sad event it suffers from rev hang like so many other modern sporty cars. There’s always older MR2 Spyder, Miata, GTI, etc they are available for less and nothing dampening the sport driving experience

Kürşad Sezgin So that’s why no answers to your question. They don’t exist here, where this video is about and for. If you want an answer for your question, do a little research. The simple answer is that the system in the video is common to all manual transmissions and only manual transmissions, though differential locks exist on the WRX STi . Since the Levorgs are all CVTs, it means it does not. It has the Active Torque Split system with a 60/40 torque split via a clutch pack. See what 5 minutes of looking it up does, you uneducated, lazy asshole?!

@@afcgeo882 You don't have to answer my question, and even if this car does not exist in the US, it doesn't mean that I can't ask a question about it. Do you think that the audience of this video is limited to the people in the US? I don't think so. So STFU.

Many manual european cars have auto break, ACC, other active safety No excuse for subaru not to have those in the manual WRX. Disappointing there.....
@eeshunique
@eeshunique 4 года назад
Its business 101, I can assure you 95% of buyers doesn't care about that. So there's no point of adding cost to have active safety engineerd in and driving up the overall cost of the vehicle when its at end of its life cycle. With that being said, of course it'd be nice to have active safety features on the manuals and I'm sure they will include it the next gen thats due next year.
