How is the model configuration simpler than "XR" road version and "XC" off road biased version. Never could see how people had difficulty understanding that, still it looks and sounds lovely.👍

Great vid Chopsie and brilliant that Destination Triumph treat you so well, I spoke to Triumph UK today and they still can't get me a bike for several weeks! Really good to hear that engine, sounds great on the video but disappointed to hear the new firing order has made the engine more lumpy - as someone who doesn't take their adventure bike off road (and 99% of us don't as you said) it beats me why Triumph would change a brilliantly smooth engine ideally suited for the road, into something more suited for off-road given most people buy them for the road!! I get the vibes aren't excessive but I'll reserve judgement until I get to try one (I loved the old 800's smoothness and am a fan of Triumph Triples generally). Thank you for the early look, can't wait to have a go on one (eventually!!)....all the best mate and see you on Thursday.....oh no, wait I minute.. ;0)

@@LambChopRides Oh dear! I do hope they haven't spoiled it - really grew on me when I rode the 800 in Thailand and when I saw the Green and White Rally Pro 900 at the unveiling at Hinckley thought the new bike looked a winner....could be a potential GS replacement in future if it's OK with a pillion.....

THIS! I'm planning on buying a midrange Tiger, either the XRT or the GT. Right now, I'm leaning towards the XRT 800 - it'll probably cost $6-8000 less than the GT down here in Australia. Or maybe I'll just wait an extra year or two.

So Triumph would have us believe that by taking a cross-plane 4-cyl crank and chopping off one crank throw, makes a 3-cyl better for off-road use? Oh yes, that was what was wrong with 3-cyl engines: Regular firing intervals, and not enough vibration. I'll stick to secondhand 800 Tigers, please. Keep the marketing fools away from the engineering department.

I know "T-plane" crank was an effort to make the engine better off road...but what's the point in a bike that is a "Road" touring bike? Lets face it, very few people go truly off-road in this class of adventure bikes as they are big, expensive and heavy. If you ARE taking a Tiger off-road then you are going to buy the Rally version in which case this engine would make sense,
@stuartgreenfield6302
@stuartgreenfield6302 4 года назад
I'm still running in a 2019 800 XRT. One of the main reasons I bought it was the triple engine. I love triples and I know lots of people do. It is silky smooth and sounds great. Plus no vibration to speak of. I find it difficult to believe that many of us take their £13K plus bikes offroad. I know I won't take on much more than the odd green lane. I bought the bike to downsize from a 1050 Tiger, which became too hard to manhandle around due to the onset of decrepitude. My point is that to change the character of the engine to suit offroad riding with the inherent increase in vibration and sounding like a twin seems like a strange way to go. Of course I haven't ridden the 900 yet. I've hardly ridden the 800 but it is brilliant. I love how it sounds and the total lack of vibrations. If I'd have wanted a twin I would have bought one.

You stated the trade of of vibes with a T Plane crank, could you expand? Thinking on getting a GT PRO, a quick test ride following saleman on another revealed some vibes? Concerned they may be much worse since I didnt go above 6k rpms????

Just making sure I've got this right; because of all the people that take their Triumph's off road (that's 2 people), Triumph have completely re-designed their engine to, erm, engineer in some roughness and get rid of the smoothness because, erm, the (2) off-roaders didn't like it... Ok, I geddit now......

@PhilWare1

The "T-plane" crank just makes the bike vibey like a twin, and its lost is smooth Triple character. I found the vibrations in the footpegs/handlebars were quite noticeable after less than an hour riding. I'll admit its got loads of torque, but if you want that then its easier to just stick with a big twin or better still a large displacement V4. A triple engine is meant to be the "best of both worlds" but this one, strangely misses the mark. I reckon Triumph should have stuck with the previous generation's 1050 smooth i.e. the Speed Triple engine in the Tiger Chassis. Overall I found the bike rather boring...

Great review.. I had the GT PRO demo for 4 hrs and thoroughly enjoyed it. I like touring so decided to do one junction on the motorway (75mph) on the way back to the dealership, this was the first time I noticed the vibration, was wondering if this could be a problem for 300+ miles? Would heavier bar weights help?

@fyorbane
@fyorbane 4 года назад
It's undeniably a good bike but like MSF said why make it like a twin when it's a triple and most people will not take it off road. Strange. Also why cap the power to only 94 hp. This is a 900 triple easily capable of producing around 110-115 hp with plenty of mid-range as well. By keeping it at 94 hp it makes it the least powerful in class [ BMW F900XR-105hp, 900 Tracer GT- 113hp, Ducati Multistrada 950- 113hp, MV 800 Tourismo-110hp]. And that TFT dash rev counter is just plain awful [who designed that needs shooting]. Don't forget this is the GT PRO the ROAD going version. I think Triumph have somewhat shot themselves in the foot with this model.

A great extensive review as usual Chops. Can't say it does much for me TBH looks wise but 1 thing I did notice that's a definite improvement is the seperate rear subframe so if you do suffer an off at least the bike won't get written off because the rear foot peg mount has bent which then needs a whole new frame.

I've tested the Rally pro. It IS too viby. From 6000 rpm, it was getting uncomfortable. No where near as bad as the BMW F900XR (which is horrible imo), but worse then the Tracer 900 (GT). But sub 6000 rpm, it's a nice ride. I Wish they had put 120/70-17 front and 180/55 -17 rear wheel on the GT version though. It would give it more "fun" potential. Speaking of sporty and the Tracer 900. How does it compare? I've tested both, but didn't get to take either to the twisties. I felt like the Tracer was a lot more sporty and will be more fun to own as your only bike.

For a road bike why make it lumpier with "acceptable" vibes? If I wanted a twin I'd buy an F900. Also, they still have the exhaust stuck under the rear seat so you can't use soft throw-over paniers without a frame, which defeats the objective. Excellent review as usual. 👍👍👍

Message to Triumph : “Triumph please offer us a Tiger 900 GT with tubeless spoked wheels; then a lot of riders (like me) would really be very interested in buying one. Why: Because a lot of riders prefer 19 inches front wheel to have more fun in twisty roads, because we prefer tubeless spoked wheels & because the Rally model is a little bit to tall for shorter riders. 4000 is pretty good at 70 MPH. You could call that an adventure bike, if you put a skid plate of decent thickness on and some 50/50 tires. But I think for the extra $500 USD I would be sorry that I didn't add the spoke rims, better suspension, the extra modes and engine guards that the Rally Pro has.😁

As an owner of a 2019 Tiger XCa my only regrets are the new tubeless rims but most importantly the easier access to air filter. The new styling doesn’t do anything for me at all. I bought this bike for off-roading and I’m quite certain I’ll never push the limits. In closing Triumph is a motorcycle company that brings “it” to market in all its models. Very interesting review, especially for me as I have a Tiger 800 XRT and will be thinking of getting the 900 GT Pro after I've had a test ride. What I like about your vid is that you know how to ride, really giving the bike some wrist so as to try the engine's performance and the bike's handling, not just potter along the lanes. Great stuff. I love my 800, one of the best bikes I've owned and I've had many, but my sole criticism is that it is impossible to get on the centre stand unaided. It is for me anyway, only able to do it, even then with an effort, by first putting the back wheel on a bit of wood to raise it. Hoping the 900 will be easier but if not, that won't put me off buying one if I like it otherwise. I notice in your walkround that you got the bike on to the stand. However you are way taller and heavier than me (five eight, eleven stone and I'm old and decrepit too) so that might explain it. Either that or the 900 is actually easier, which I hope is the case. No problem with the stand on my previous bike, BMW 1200 GS. Thanks for the review, one of the best I've seen of the GTP version.

Can you say, CANDY STORE!!!??? I gravitated IMMEDIATELY to the Tiger 900. I'm 6'2", 180lbs. I sat in the bike. It's COMFY! It had cruise control! Heated grips! I don't care much about electronics packages. I'm 60. I like non-ABS bikes. I grew up with them. I do like a nice dash though. Love my 2020 Ninja 650's dash. That being said, I CAN spring for the Pro, and that seems to be the norm on the showroom floor. Make sense. They want to sell the deluxe model. But would you estimate that the base model is just as nice? Or, all in all, would you during for the Pro. No one's doing a vlog on the base model. I know it doesn't have heated seats, but I'm a daily commuter. I don't own a car. I've never missed what I've never had. My Ninja 650 has ABS, that's it.

"Tiger 888" sounds pretty damn cool to me. I think most people will respond well to the "lumpier" crank configuration... It's become the new norm for their twins and I'm sure it will in the triples as well. I'm not exactly a fan but it sounds pretty nice and that's what sells bikes. 12:55 is the best demonstration you could give a bike to be honest, that could have been a nasty crash on a lesser bike!

Burgundy? Looks more like Honda red to me... had a 1983 VT700C and a 2007 VFR800 that had a very similar color. I think the decals are a bit garish and take from the beauty of the paint.

Triumph should have admitted defeat, and built a proper dual sport twin. End of. Want an 800-900 triple pretend adventure bike? Fine, sell one with a 19" mag wheel tubeless tyre. Dont pretend with a spoked 21" jobbie. Simples. Oh hang on a minute, 1200 Scrambler....

18.38 rear seat heater switch. No, just no. Just buy a car. Along with scrolling thru a TFT screen for your modes, TC, and electronic suspension, for THE LOVE OF GOD, is there no end to ridiculous 21st century electronics on bikes. I mean, ffs, when this one day goes wrong, who fixes it? Not you or me...

A good as this vid is by Chops this bike doesn't sell itself.. let's address the elephant in the room its isn't a GS and will live in the GS shadow. Does anyone take a 10k plus bike off road Triumph? Certainly non of my mates. How ironic a KTM Superduke goes past 😁😄 still I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder for future purchasers.

Forgive if I have missed something 'not obvious' as it were, but the following seems utterly obvious to me. If it had less handlebar vibration before than it has now, it now has too much vibration which the makers knew how to avoid and previously avoided. That it is 'absoluteley nothing' (which of course it cannot be if the rider can feel it), is meaningless. Perhaps that's a rather pedantic response to a casual use of the word 'absolutely', but for me handlebar vibration causes serious discomfort, and I have ridden very few bikes whose bar vibration was not too much for me. Seems like a sound bike apart from that and one or two minor points, and its being suitable for a shorter rider as he says is music to my ears. Having enjoyed a 2013 v-strom from new for 5 years until stupidly trading it in against a new Tmaxd30DX 18 months ago, this seems tempting if it is comparable to the 1000 strom (warning: do not buy a Tmax, they are awful). Thanks for the video. How is it with a pillion I wonder. I take my wife on my bigger bikes and any bike no good with a passenger is off my list.

So hang on chops! 100cc extra and no more power! I’ll stick with 800 then!!!

By 2040 the midsize category will include 1200cc .lol If you consider what midsize was 30 years ago....750cc+ was considered big

Did find the seat was high enough for a tall ride. I love 900 bike I’m about to upgrade my America 900. I’ve had since new and I always found it a little to small but never lacking in power. I’m trying to decide on the 1200 Rally Pro or the 900 rally Pro.

Shame they didn't produce a smaller engine size version. The fuel consumption on Triumphs is shockingly bad and this is no exception, and it is very expensive. So it needs to be good, which it is, as long as you don't mind 55 miles to the gallon and even worse on the 800 cc models. There are some cars with twice that engine size and 5 times the weight that can do 70 mpg.

I do take my tiger 800 off-road so that's 3 people. I don't take it on single tracks though. We have lots of unsealed minor roads (thousands of kilometers). I wouldn't swop my 21" front wheel. I haven't felt any need of a different firing order. It sounds as though there are some good improvements but not enough to trade up. I also don't like the new headlights or display (personal preference). If mine got written off I would buy the 900. Good review thank you

Excellent video! Our local dealer didn’t have any Tiger 900 GT Pros for me to test ride when I bought my BMW 750 GS. I was at the dealer recently and sat on the 900 GT Pro and found it much lighter than my 750. Do you prefer one of those over the other?

Excellent review. Just bought a Ducati Scrambler for commuting in the Paris region. Loving it mostly but it really isn"t confidence inspiring on motorways or in bad weather conditions. Most of my riding is in dense traffic but I do get out for the odd jaunt. I'm very tempted to move to this Tiger as it really is a Swiss army knife machine and still fun to ride. The lower centre of gravity might swing it for me. I imagine that filtering wouldn't be a problem? The only thing that I don't love is the colour choices and the overall look. The Rally green is far better looking but unfortunately not available for the GT pro.

I wish they ditched the expensive stylema calipers and gave it full adjustable suspension. Basic brembos or nissins would have been plenty. The styling isn't my cup of tea either, the graphics look tacky

Nearly 42mpg US = 50 mpg U/K...not too shabby to be honest in my opinion. Interesting bike. Think I'll see if the wife would like this too! She rides her 675R, but would be interested as a pillion on trips on this maybe?

I'm always suspicious of reviews which give a positive opinion on all aspects of a bike. Always figure they're worried another road test won't be forthcoming. I've ridden the bike myself and felt it's lacking in area's. Engine is a great improvement firing order works, would I have one, No

Great vid as always Chops, your chanel is fab! I started watching this bloomin months ago (and somehow never got to the end lol) when I was looking at the SDr which I bought, now my missus is getting back into coming out with me we need something better for a passenger. I've not seen a bad word really about the 900s. Now my lovely wife has fallen for the Rally Pro which I'm secretly glad about as I'd love something different to compliment the SDr which ain't leaving the stable and will probably now lose the rear seat 😆 haha

It has a bit more whine than the 790 and sounds a bit smoother in general (I have a 790 Duke) but it's not far off for sure .... I'd be willing to bet that if KTM made a triple it would sound exactly like this trumpet 😉

HI i have been lucky to have had test rides on the tiger 900 gt pro and the rally pro . now i have ridden all tiger 800 models and have to say this 900 is by far the best mid weight tiger triumph so far. the rally pro is miles better then the old xc or xcx models . the engine is still smooth but with some character to it . 95hp may sound low but its not it will fly and quick shifter is brilliant , use it mid bend and the bike is not up set the bike at all . brakes just light years better then the 800 tiger . TFT screen excellent and all the other electronics are great . if you like Triumphs go test ride one . when all this lock down is do. by the way just got my test rides in before the lock down . but did not order one due what was coming. ps owed tiger 1050 for 7 years the 900 tiger much better. my currant bike Kawasaki versys 1000 gt . heavy . but great mile muncher.

It's a nit pick, I know, but it really annoys me that they're doing the Japanese style headlights - low beam on one side, high beam on the other. I have that on my current bike (versys 650), and it's just too easy to outrun the headlights - anything over about 60 kph, and I'm not comfortable with my ability to see the road surface. I reckon the fog lights would help, but it's still a bad idea, imo.

I tried the Tiger 800 and the Tiger 1200, and i felt both too weak low down, it has no torque. Do the Tiger 900 has much difference in torque low down? Do you feel that punch from V twin?
