I have been told today that Toyota is almost 500 parts back ordered across the nation for this Coolant Valve issue. This continues to be an issue for many many Rav4's.
Just did the replacement, took less than 50 minutes, watched my security cameras after to see. I DID not remove battery, first I pulled off the engine dress up cover, removed the 12mm bolt that secures the other hose next to the bypass valve to gain access to the bypass valve 12mm bolt and then removed that. used a pick to pull out both sides of the white clip that holds the hose to the bypass valve and removed the hose, coolant spills out, no big deal. Then from the video above I removed the wire that is held on with a 10mm bolt and move it out of way. I wasted probably 10 minutes looking for a mirror to see the clamp on the hose that is the short end of the hose down below the bypass valve. Once i seen it i knew what I was working with and felt it to get a set of pliers on it. I used a square end set of pliers that had about 3/8 wide jaws. Other pliers would slip off. Hose slid right off. Next was the lower hose, there's a plastic bracket on it halfway that holds two other hoses, just unclip the bracket from the other hoses. Once that was done I turned the wheels as far right as possible. I lied on the ground and could easily see the lower hose and clamp. The clamp ends were facing up and all I did was use a pick screwdriver with a hook end to grab it and spin it around. Then it was very simple to grab the clamp and slide it off. I slid this one onto the mount instead of back onto hose, made it easier for install. Reversed everything you did and top up coolant in radiator through radiator cap, not overflow bottle and run engine to get air bubbles out. rinse away any excess spilled coolant and done.
My RAV4 got the same issue at 54k miles. The dealer charged my $850 for part and labor to replace the coolant bypass valve. The part itself is about $125. We need to highlight this issue to Toyota to make a recall!!!!
Bought our 2020 RAV4 from a dealer last November with 82K miles on it. They said oil and filter service was done and ready. Exactly 5K miles later the maintenance required visit dealer message came up. I took to Wally and had a full synthetic oil service done and a rotation. Get in car and message still on. Went on radio display and into maintenance menu and reset all services due. Message still on. Hmmm. Watched your video and about the coolant bypass deal and did a road test, coolant temp is normal as usual. I have been an ASE certified master tech for 30 years and thought it is odd to have a major issue without MIL (check engine light) coming on. Scan for DTCs and found none. The. Went into vehicle settings on my instrument cluster using left thumb buttons. Chose maintenance reset and also reset my TPS system because I rotated my tires and gauged them to proper pressure. Maintenance Required message is gone now. No money spent. I’m not saying there is not an issue with the coolant bypass on these vehicles but this message is for oil change service also as mine is now off. I will keep an eye on coolant temp but you should hear an alarm chime if there is an issue with a gauge reading and also see the red check engine light come on for a trouble code. At least that is true with my 2020 RAV4.
Thank you for this video!!! I bought my 2020 Rav 4 with 29k miles a couple of months ago. Then, this message came on the dash when it had 33,600 miles. Good thing i saw this video because when I called the dealer, they said I only have until 36k miles to get a free repair for the issue. 👍👍👍
Just had this code come on my car yesterday and am still below 40k on it. Dealer is still looking at it and doing a pressure on it but they mentioned a bypass code. Didnt know about the goodwill claim so that will definitely come in handy versus that price tag. Thanks for the video!
It's not "a lot" ... Had my 21 at the dealer for the 10k dealer and asked they said seen 3, it's a big dealership... Not worried... Won't leave you stranded.... Go to Ford and see how many waiting for engines and trans.....
I had the same issue in my 2019 rav4 My Toyota dealer told me it is Ok and not urgent . He said it has nothing to do with the engine temperature . It is only responsible for the heater in the winter . I’m not convinced by what he said . I’ve been driving it for 2 months after the check engine message appeared and everything is fine Any advices please
@@erneale1316 yeah I just call today to a Toyota dealer in Doral and they telling me that...! That's why I star searching for another opción and I see this video... toyota it's not more the same quality than before...
@@marceloenriquez9041I bought my 2020 rav4 xle. And 15500miles now. 2 years warranty is already expired. same issue. I did change engine oil regularly with synthetic. They charged me $350 for just check up. This issue should be recalled.
Would this issue cause the overflow tank to be below Low? I have 18K miles on mine and noticed it after I went to a local tire shop for a tire. No visible leaks, No maintenance required light message either.
But would the RAV4 consume the pink coolant? I checked the oil, and the oil was clear and not foaming like a blown head gasket. And no visible coolant leaks/smells anywhere. I am suspecting foul play by the local garage I visited, and they possibly took out some coolant for me later to come by with an issue they “know” about.
Yeah kinda crazy they quoted me 840$ said he can help me out for 800$ I already am paying 170$ for the diagnostic itself that can be applied to total cost or the repair for 30 days after the diagnostic so I’m asking for the goodwill thing idk what it is but I’ll probably drive off right now and also get some other quotes from other places
How many miles do you have? The quote sounds right but you shouldnt pay it! You need to call Toyota corporate right now and ask them for assistance. Google Toyota Corporate Phone number and open a case
That and the headliner leak issue this model has as well. Got my headliner replaced (less than 30,000 miles a month ago/ seen the issue all over the internet too and now my RAV4 back again a month later with this Coolant sensor issue & the part was on back order so it’s a known issue (as well as the headliner leak water etc… google that you will see it / just put headliner leak due to inclement weather like rain snow even car washes for the following year’s Toyota RAV4 2019 2021, 2021 ….and they haven’t recalled either issue and they are well aware of the issues. Thankfully, I did not have to pay for either one of the issues since I was still under 30,000 miles and I also purchased an extended warranty. I wish everybody the best of luck. I also wish that Toyota would take some responsibility for this and do recall taking peoples money it’s terrible.
I would expect Toyota to come out with Warranty Enhancement at some point that would cover this issue. For now, I would approach your local Toyota Dealer and ask them to submit a Goodwill claim. With your current mileage Toyota might ask you to pay a small portion of the repair. Do not ignore the issue. Get it fixed the right way the first time.
@@solayaung3735 maintenance required means oil change or some form of maintenance. Engine maintenance usually means that the coolant by pass valve has an error.
In the Video the RAV4 had a bad coolant hose and sensor. The hose and sensor are connected. They were replaced under factory warranty because the vehicle had less than 3 years or 36,000 miles.
@@ABSVabeautifulsunsetvlog this is a known issue for Toyota. I would ask the dealer to submit this for Goodwill. Goodwill is extra assistance from Toyota that is approved you could get this done for free or for $100 deductible.
