Cutting the engine for the horses was a class act - very admirable. On the other hand, tempting folks such as me with this particular bike is not so good. It's been a long time since a new bike made my pulse grow quicker.

I agree with your top five, an excellent bike which I rode for two hours or so a couple of months ago. It is definitely worth a road test if you have any interest in it. As I already have a bike I was not tempted myself but a worthy contender for anyone's money, as you say a lot of value there. An easy ride, and I think a relaxing ride. Thanks for the video.

Loved this video mate. Always check out your current offerings. Would love you to review the current 1050 sport. The front end may be a bit utilitarian and needs a handsome makeover but I think the extra bit of power may just make it my next bike. Currently still in love with a custom Yamaha TDM 900.

I had always thought the quick shifter on anything other than a track bike was just a bit of marketing, until I had the chance to try one out with a pillion on the back and realized if I timed the “quick shift” in the right spots there was little or no snatch and jerk to upset the pillion ! So now I understand why they are becoming so popular on touring oriented bikes. 👍 (See, you can teach old dogs new tricks after all 🤪👍.)

Been riding my Rally Pro for a month and I do agree with every point you've mentioned. Another great improvement is the thermal management. The cooler temp is very stable no matter how hot/cold it is outside. And, no more hot air flow to my knees (I'd owned a Tiger 800 back in the days). As for the wind protection... well... the bike has got some but in no way it compares to the 1200's :) The suspension (The Rally Pro's got Showa on the both ends) is more solid and progressive than the WP used to be. The quickshifter is just a bit rougher compared to BMW's 4-cyl inlines but works perfectly overall.

Nicely done TMF. I bought a Tiger 800 a few months ago and 'think' I prefer it's looks to the 900. The engine sound of the 900 isn't the triple whistle I love, it's maybe a grower. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the token screen.

Mid-sized, we need more lower CC bikes, but with big bike features, 400cc-600cc with shaft drive for commuters or long distance. Just as an example. I ride every day for work, I don’t need or want a 1200cc bike, but I would appreciate not cleaning the chain each week. Just the little things. 900cc is not mid-sized, the original fire blade was 900cc.

I went into a shop to buy a shirt; nice, decent price. However, when I went to pay I was charged extra for the shirt to be shipped to the shop. “What” says I, “that’s ridiculous!” Then the cashier said she’d also have to add a substantial fee for unpacking the shirt and putting it on display. “What” says I again, “that’s ridiculous!” Then, just when I was taking my credit card out, the cashier said, “of course nobody wants the buttons it comes with, they’re really not any good but lucky for you, for a price, better buttons could be bought but of course there’s a significant charge to sew them on, and oh yes, the colour you’ve picked costs more so let’s see, that comes to . . . “ “What” says I, yet again, “that’s ridiculous!”
@richardbrooks4549
@richardbrooks4549 4 года назад
Walter Wilkins You’re buying your shirts from the wrong places! Bikes are priced with options because some people want them and some don’t. As long as pricing is transparent I see no problem with that.
@maxflight777
@maxflight777 4 года назад
Walter, your post doesn’t make any sense. I think we should be delighted that car/bike vendors offer “basic” models for those who want them. (I tick every box on the option list) ... but it doesn’t guarantee any more smiles/enjoyment than the guy who buys a base model.
@UncleWally3
@UncleWally3 4 года назад
Max Flight. Unlike purchasing most items (like a shirt) buying a base model off the showroom floor, at least in North America, still requires paying exorbitant shipping and set-up fees. Add to that the sales ploy of parts and accessory configuration. For example, go to any Triumph website to build “your bike” which is basically paying a manufacturer to first sell you parts that are removed then selling more parts that one pays to have replaced. The value of the original parts is often a total loss. I’ve purchased three new bikes in the last dozen years and a couple of almost unused “pre-owned” bikes. In my case, there’s no doubt buying the used bikes was, by far, the better value. And by far, when I sold my fully farkled reconfigured new bikes, the buyers got a great deal - me, not so much. So, whining aside, I’m just tired of the new bike purchase game where one walks in with a legitimate MSRP price in mind and rides out wondering what the hell happened to the MSRP. Maybe it’s just me being a grumpy ol’fart, but on principle I won’t buy another new motorcycle, I’ll wait for a year or two and buy the bike after someone has configured it as both the rider and the manufacturer themselves would have it on the road. Good discussion thread though, I’d love to know where my thinking is wrong - take care, be safe!
@richardbrooks4549
@richardbrooks4549 4 года назад
Walter Wilkins Hi Walter. I guess the point is you work out the price for what you want and if you are happy with it, you pay it. If not you walk away from the deal. Triumph made less than £240 per bike they sold last year. Hardly a rip off!
@auscurrymaster
@auscurrymaster 3 года назад
@@UncleWally3 Not sure about North America, but here is Aus (and I believe in the UK as well) you pay the advertised price, without extras for shipping etc. Obviously if you have the guile for negotiation you will get a bit off the top as well, especially if you have ordered accessories with the bike.

The Tiger 900 GT is very tempting. Its an expensive bike in Canada. Because of Covid-19, Triumph should offer a 1000$ reduction, a free set of aluminium sides cases & 0 % financial buying rate to motivate me to buy one this summer! If they do, i would buy one! I cannot consider the GT Pro because its really over my budget. I will maybe wait in 2021 for the hopefully improved & upgraded V-Strom 650/700 XT.

I prefer the Triumph, got some proper good character where are the BMW is almost too perfect in that smooth germanic way - plus the 850GSA is very heavy to move around, more so than my 1200GS due the high COG. The BMW has a better TFT and arguably looks, bit to me the Triumph is the better bike.....quite close though.

TMF, thanks for your usual quality review. The problem with the old one was that it was excessively hot, it toasted the pillions feet. It was so hot my wife refused to be a pillion on it and I brought the Tracer GT instead (a great bike). Does this suffer with the same issues?.

@John Lightfoot I had a tmax for the day, being 6'2" might have impacted this but I found the "lumber" support in the seat gave me a really dead arse. I think my legs are too long so it pushed me in to it too much. Nice scooter though, just wish it was a bench style seat.

@@SuperchargedLlama I'm 6"3 and agree. None of the big Honda or Yamaha scooters are any good for tall people. On the Honda adv 750, the handlebars hit my knees when you go towards full lock. Maybe the BMW 650's are better.

Do the Triumph Tiger adventure day in Wales Andy, that will show you exactly what these bikes can do. We use 10% of the capability on the road. "We are taking the bike up there??" was the most commonly heard phrase from me on that day but I can highly recommend it as it gives you huge confidence when you take these bikes on the road.

Another top review tmf, as you creep up on late 50 s , having a lighter bike makes a lot of sense. 12.8k +luggage ==14k+, too much , but std one all in for 11k sounds a deal but not seen what extras are missing on that. Now that we are seemingly flying the great British flag , can see you getting one of these,even if it is a thaimph. 😬

Question about your helmet. What are its benefits compared to a normal full-face helmet? Is it just styling? And what are its drawbacks? How noticeable are they?
@paulaus
@paulaus 4 года назад
Adventure Helmets allow you to wear Motocross Goggles which is handy if you are riding off road especially when hot.. You can also pull the visor down when it's wet. The peak keeps the sun out of your eyes. Typically they ventilate really well as well. Disadvantages are they are noisy on the road and the peak and styling means they aren't as aerodynamically efficient as a regular helmet so your head might get knocked around a bit.

OK, watched you vids for a good while and been a member for a (well, wife would say since birth, but for you a couple months!), but serious question time. What's your perceived advantage of having a peaked helmet? Never seen the attraction myself, but you've mentioned on a couple of occasions but I've never understood why. Appreciate your insight as always...
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 4 года назад
Well first it looks cool of course and that's very important, but also in summer the peak is great for keeping the sun out of your eyes (also the low sun in Spring/Autumn) + this style of helmet tends to have a larger aperture than standard full face helmets so visibility is superior I find...no disadvantages either really....
