Thanks Scott! Seems to be interest in it, now I have to figure how to make it interesting haha. I've been struggling with that video for a while now. There's so much info in it that it's hard to convey it in an interesting way. The challenge is on!
@@BlindstuffMTB I wouldn't worry too much about making it super interesting, just start with a disclaimer about how it's a bit boring cause it's not a ride video and then go forward with the dry goodness (for those of us who care)
Great vid. You got a new bike and at the same time you got a confidence builder. Pisgah looks like riding in the Allegheny Natl. forest......plenty of rocks and roots. Congrats on the purchase
Thanks Don! I've wanted to go to Allegheny for some time, heard a lot of good things. Unfortunately when I go to PA I'm always in the Philly area, so its a bit of drive.
Love your new YT Jeffsy. Keep the videos coming and get back up here to Washington State. Love your work. Stay safe. My cousin lives in Miami Beach and from what he’s told me COVID is really bad in South Florida as of right now. Glad you got to get up to beautiful North Carolina. Such a beautiful place.
Thanks! Will do! Wish I could make it back to the PNW soon, so many great trails we got to ride and to think of the stuff that's still out there. South Florida isn't doing great at all now, lots of time at home just to be safe unfortunately. Still getting to ride, just not as much as I'd like.
BlindstuffMTB Well please keep in touch. Would love to shred with you when you get back up here to the Seattle area. Bellingham has phenomenal riding, Darrington has some awesome trails. So many wonderful options plus our dirt is phenomenal. And we’re really close to BC. Stay safe and please keep in touch.
I ordered a black magic Jeffsy 27.5 a month ago. I live in Connecticut and I have been looking forward to getting my first FS bike. I currently have a hardtail XC bike. The YT website said September 9th is the availability of the bike. I guess that's when it's due to arrive at the California location. I'm so impatient for it to get here ha ha. Everyday, I am coming onto RU-vid and looking up "Jeffsy " lol So I was psyched to see this! I usually comment AFTER I watch a video but I couldn't wait!! Oh wait....yeah, I watched your unboxing and assembling of this bike! That's right, I just remembered that. I made some dickhead comment about you using your own torque wrench and not the included one. Yep, I'm a douche. I also watched your vid of your last weekend on your old Jeffsy. I just subbed. Keep on making em and I'll keep on watching. Ok, going to watch now. Edit: Wow man great video. That staircase looks gnarly asf bro! Because it even looks steep on the gopro! Awesome!
Lmao, I got a really good laugh from your unbox torque wrench comment. Congrats on the new bike, it'll totally be worth the wait, specially jumping from a hardtail. I've never had the chance to ride in CT, but from watching Jordan Byron's channel it looks super rocky, a FS will aid your riding so much! Stoked you liked the video, that staircase was a huge deal for me to get, took a long time; turns out its not really that hard, just very scary.
Great video bro! In the next one, please cover the adjustments you made to the suspension. I just rode a fs for the first time last week at Beech mountain and my hands were shut. I noticed you mentioned your ride improved after the changes to the fork suspension. My Jeffsy arrives in October. This sucks. The pro race was sold out so I went with the pro 29. Almost got a Transition Scout to avoid the wait, but really wanted the 29 wheels. Looking forward to the next video. Cheers!
nice to see you back riding and producing the content, damn it feels good, right? I knew we will be listening and watching you how good decision you made about that bike and of course 29" wheels, ,,,,, keep up good work and stay safe cheers V!
You know its a great feeling when things come together. You were always right about 29ers haha, saying it since I can remember. Cheers Verdon, stay safe!
Great vid! I am waiting for the approach video since the bike check I am also considering a new bike and trying to decide if it should be a 29er I hope i can learn something from your vid👍 Looking forward to it
Well worth the trip man, you gotta make your way out there when you get a chance. Dupont is all flow and high speed, Pisgah is all chunk. Best of both worlds just 10 min from eachother. Thanks man, the adaptation was faster than I expected. Really enjoying the bigger wheels.
I'd watch a video on picking out a bike based on geo charts. That's how I picked my current bike (transition patrol) and was very happy with the outcome. I'd be interested in how your approach went
Greek out! My vote is Yes for a "How I chose this bike". It's probably the most important part of choosing a new bike without having them all lined up to test ride or dropping a chunk of change to realize it's not right. To many frames, geometries, accessories to not lose one's mind. Stress less, ride more. Be good, do better!
Great vid mate! Looking forward for your next videos and i'm super interested in your aprouch and desk research how you picked this bike over (for instance) a propain hugene or something similar. Also i'm curious for the durability of the bike, would like to hear your opinion on that topic!
Nice review. Seems like a solid all-arounder of a bike. I can only afford one bike and want a do everything rig that pedals well up hill. I am looking at the Jeffsy, the IBIS Ripmo and Evil Wreckoning. Hard to beat the kit on the Jeffsy for the money, but... for 1K more the Wreckoning seems like a monster. It's gonna be a tough choice.
Both choices are phenomenal. I think they're slightly different bikes, be honest with your needs, are you going to use that extra capacity to warrant the extra $1k? There's basically no bad bikes now, just ones that fit the needs of each person.
Great vid! Curious what version you got? Don’t think you mentioned it in the vid. And maybe in your full review you could say why that version. Cheers and keep it up!
Thanks Dave! I did an unboxing video before this one and just kinda assumed people would have watched that, which in hindsight was kinda silly, should have done a brief overview. This is the Pro Race version.
Welcome back to the trails Stefano! Nice quick first video of the Jeffsy with one exception- you never show the bike, lol! Was sure we'd see it at the end! Which model is it, Pro Race? And what size frame (your size, too, please)? I assume it's been to VK quite a few times? How does it handle which sections differently from the 27.5? I would theoretically be interested in a theoretical video, theoretically...maybe you can show sections of trail that correspond to frame aspects or something like that? (Extremely) Happy Riding!
Lmao, I never showed the bike... You know, since I made a video on unboxing it and went over all the details, I assumed everyone would have watched that, which in hindsight was a silly assumption. Its a Pro Race in size Large. I'm 182 cm or 5'11" and a lot. It rips at VK too, very happy with the pedaling performance here in FL!
@@BlindstuffMTB I watched the unboxing video after this video. In hindsight...backwards! (I'm subbed, but don't get notifications, I have to look for your latest). You now have me looking at the Pro (XL or XXL, but can't decide. At 6'4" I might go down in size to try to keep it more nimble), but no silver, *sigh*. Black or that Green that could be cool, or... Your unboxing vid has me (the least mechanical rider on Earth) convinced I might be able to put it together. Might. How do find the bobbing while climbing? Do you think the Jeffsy, being at the Enduro end of Trail, is overkill for riding 90+% in SFla? I wonder if the Izzo is enough, or not a big enough step forward for me... Looked at YT parts- the hanger description didn't exactly match the bike. Was that the case for you? Nor did the whoever's skin match the Jeffsy model. But it worked for you? And really took 3hrs? Yikes! I might have the bike (Sept) before you get your technical research video done, haha! But you did linger lovingly in your shots of the bike on the unboxing vid, so I guess you're sorta covered here- OTOH it never hurts to look at each video as a separate piece... Thanks as always, and thanks for your work on that new feature at VK!!! And man, let's hope for a turnaround in the Covid spike down here! Chuck
@@BlindstuffMTB Hey Stefano! While waiting for the (mythical?) geometry video, how about a quick & easy VK video? :^) I'd love to see the Jeffsy (and you) in action!
I am so torn between this bike and the orbea occam - I just can't figure out which would be better for my type of riding, maybe you will have the chance to demo the new occam and give your input? :D
I haven't had a chance to ride the Occam so I can't say much about it. I'd love to demo one, but for the close future, demo events don't seem to be running at their normal rate, so no idea when that'll happen. At a quick glance it looks like a solid contender too, being able to chose between them would definitely have to be a price / components ratio or digging a little deeper into geometry charts.
Great video, thanks for sharing. My 2020 Jeffsy 29 is arriving in a few days. Can't wait to hit the trails up here in NH. I am def curious about the approach you took in deciding this bike even though I already made my decision and am awaiting my delivery. I'm also REALLY interested to know more about how you tweaked the suspension. I may have to listen back to this video, but it sounds like you dialed it in pretty well and as you said "got the best of both worlds". I would love to know more about the way you did this during setup. Thanks and looking forward to more videos.
Thanks, and you're gonna love the bike, congrats! There's no universal magic solution to bike setup imho, you have to experiment a bit to figure out what works best for you. I'm 165lbs, so I found that the shock works best with no volume spacers, but I know that wouldn't apply to someone who is 190lbs. Once you get the bike, try to do 30% sag for the shock (whatever pressure that is) and 25 - 30% for the fork. I went off what the manuals said and ended up making the fork softer than suggested and the shock harder than suggested. My rebound numbers are pretty close to what is recommended and I'm running just a tad less compression damping.
Funny, I’m considering going back from 29er to 27.5. My local trails are mostly flat and tight. I occasionally get to a bike park so was looking at a 2021 yt jeffsy 27 for the extras travel in park but which is alloy only. Thoughts? Carbon 29er jeffsy or alloy 27 jeffsy ? Thanks
I don't think there's a right answer to 27 vs 29, it's absolutely a matter of personal preference. I'm personally faster on the 29, but i dare say sometimes it makes things too easy, the 27 will often "feel" faster. As for looking at the 27 for the extra travel, it's not really needed for the bike park. The 29er will be able to handle anything you can throw at it, to see a real difference you'd have to go up to a Capra.
Just the man I needed to see..... I'm torn between Jeffsy and Capra. My son is pushing me towards Capra, but I'm reluctant due to climbing prowess... but then if we go to Bailey is the Jeffsy's travel going to be enough? I enjoyed my Nomad... to give an idea
It's a hard choice for sure. I pedal a lot and prefer the playful nature of the Jeffsy, but, if I rode mostly Pisgah, the Capra would make sense. The thing about the Capra that I've read is that it's a bit more plow through everything and less playful, to me 170mm on the 29er or 180mm in the 27 is a TON of travel. I just wouldn't use it on most trails I ride, but maybe you will, I'd try to think through that. I've ridden my previous Jeffsy at Whistler, and while I didn't send Dirt Merchant, it did just fine everywhere. It's obviously not a park bike, but it can handle a ton for most riders.
Hey Francisco, happy you liked the video. I'm sorry to say I haven't ridden the new Capra. Its definitely a bigger beefier bike, much less playful but more aggersive. I'd say really think about your needs and if the extra aggressiveness of the capra makes sense for you.
I just got mine two weeks ago and I love it, but i find the Jeffsy a bit more difficult to climb than my old Trek Wahoo hardtail , on flat terrain i find my self doing an extra effort to gain speed, but again, it may just be me adjusting to beefier tires and full suspension bike. The seat is a killer tho, even with my padded shorts after 5 miles I just wanna stop because it hurts. Definitely, I will upgrade the seat. Did you have any problems with a clicking sound coming from the rear shock? I adjusted the shocks (front and back) and its bothering me that i hear a clicking sound. Thanks
A hardtail will always be more efficient on smooth climbs, there's just no way around it. That being said, on techier stuff, I'd expect that the Jeffsy would track the terrain better. The seat is indeed killer, I ended up swapping to an Ergon saddle and so far I'm very happy. Haven't had any clicking from the shock. I would recommend you check if the saddle rails are clean and re-tighten them, that tends to make sound more often and its super easy to mistake for the shock. If you're sure its in the suspension, check the pivot for proper torque.
Do you recommend this bike for Natural trails but also bike parks (not the worldcup downhill trails though)? Because I do both... I was also thinking about the propain tyee but I don't want to be overbiked (or underbiked of course)
Short answer. Yes I do. Long answer, depends on how much time you spend on trails vs bike park, if you're doing, say 50/50 i think you could benefit from a slacker bike. If it's more like 80 trails / 20 park then no doubt. Also depends on how aggressively you ride and whether you need to plow through everything or you want something more playful
@@BlindstuffMTB thanks a lot! I don't like to plow over everything. I had a canyon torque 2013 with 180mm and I didn't like it since I felt like I didn't have much control because I lacked feeling for the ground with so much travel. I think it's about 40% Bikepark, 40% natural Enduro trail and 20% longer tours with flat trails.
Can you help me with the size? I'm 1,84m (6'03) and my upper body is relatively long compared with my lower body. So far I drive a M Canyon Hardtail as I don't want my bike to feel like a truck. I have an offer for a 29er jeffsy in L from 2020. Do you think that will suit me well?
Hey, I'm 182 and ride a size L and it works really well for me. You're definitely not a M, in any case you would be an L or XL. Given that you want something nimbler I think L should work well for you.
Hey great vid. I'm this >< close to pushing the button on a 2019 Jeffsy 27 Pro in the outlet, thinking I'd probably go 29 next year when they're discounted (if available), but I'm wondering, sod it, that looks worth the money. What was your previous model?
So happy to hear its worked out well for you! I agree, it feel so fast. Quien tiene el record en Strava bajando Totunkamon jajaja, anda mas esta o la Reign de Guillermo?
@@Derickn1 yeah, YT's go fast and this year the whole bike industry seems sold out. If you're set on the bike, keep checking periodically, every once in a while a batch will pop up. Check the YT rolling circus for demo dates close to you.
Nice video. I'm dreaming of a new bike and considering a Jeffsy. I've been spending a lot of time on Geometry Geeks to figure out what would suit me. Its not really possible to demo everything.... Since I'm tall, 198cm, with a long back I find my current Cube Reaction TM too short, especially when standing. But at the same time i don't want a stretched out seated position as that kills my shoulders and neck.... I know I know, sound like an old man. So I think I need a long reach, high stack and steep seat tube to reduce the effective top tube. Going on Geo alone it seems to be between the Jeffsy and a Hightower. The Jeffsy comes at such a better price though. The Hightower is over £3k and comes with basically entry level components.
@@angelreynoso6723 yeah I'd say that's fair. I have a large frame XC bike as well and it wouldn't fit anyone shorter than me very well. I chose the large because I'd rather have a bike that was on the smaller end rather than too big and unwieldy but that's me. It's also easier to resell a large when the time comes.
I'm 182cm, which is just shy of 6'. I'm happy that I went with the Large. I feel like its already a long bike and it has plenty of space in the cockpit. With 470mm of reach, I feel like its plenty. I'd consider the XL if you prefer extremely stable, vs a bit more playful and easy to move around, for me because of that the L felt like a better choice, but I honestly never rode the XL to know.
Same here. My delivery date says mid May. I’m just glad I was able to put an order on one. I got the email pretty late in the evening and did not check in until midnight. I ordered a large. I’m excited
I'm 13 I've been riding for about a year just got a new bike trek marlin 7 probably the best starter bike ever im upgrading to the yt bc I need full suspension
Man..I’m struggling between the Canyon spectral 29er and the Jeffsy 29er I’m looking at both their top builds but I’m waiting on the 2021 jeffsy to release because I’m hoping for a 160mm front and 150mm back like the spectral has. I have a 2017 giant trance 2 with 170mm front and 150mm rear medium size I’m 5’8 1/2 and 165lb you recommend medium on the YT? Canyon sizing I hear are weird. It’s time for a new ride even though I built this trance like a down hill bike lol
Man I know you're struggle, I just settled on the Jeffsy Blaze and it really just came down to looks because both bike have awesome reviews and come at a bargain for what you get.
Happy you enjoy the videos Aiden. I understand what you mean about the hubs, definitely loud. I personally enjoy them, but get how if you don't they can really be in-your-face annoying. Thinking of running a different grease in them to see if it'll quiet them down a bit.
Aidenmtb Are better hubs louder? Somebody at the local trail had loud hubs the other day, I packed up and left. I have always appreciated how quiet this sport is, it’s what drew me away from motorcycles. I love the sound of rolling over roots and rocks and the suspension doing its thing. I couldn’t see myself making someone else listen to that.
@@BlindstuffMTB that's good to know. My current hub is pretty quiet and my wheels are on the cheaper side. I'd definitely be greasing that hub if I do end up getting the Jeffsy.
