Welcome to a NEW series where we look at used bikes AFTER the hype. Today we're going to ride the V1 YT Jeffsy 29 and see if it still holds up to today's trail bikes and things to consider.
If you enjoyed this video please nominate a bike you'd like me to review after the hype.

Great insight! I have a 2017 Jeffsy Aluminum 27.5, and it's been an absolute wonderful machine. Taken it to bike parks, raced an enduro, did an XC race on it and just about everything in between. It's never really left me wanting more.

Good idea for a series. There are several ways to continue: you could do common and market saturated bikes or bikes that are still great rides but became somehow untrendy and thus lost value.

Love this new and much needed series. Like so many others I too get caught up in the industry marketing hype. Thanks for reminding us that our current bikes are still relevant, capable and most importantly... fun. After all, most of us are on bikes that were recently (less than a handful of years ago) considered "cutting-edge". Our local trails haven't changed much if at all in that time and my 3 yr old HD3 is still up to the task. Having said all of this...congrats to anyone who just scored a new ride. I know how awesome a feeling it is. I too am looking foward to my next.

I bought a Jeffsy as soon as they came out in 2016, I got one of the aluminium models. Committed to the 29 early - everybody thought it was so weird back then. Absolutely loved the bike. Super poppy, jumps well and great suspension that even works well with a basic shock. The reach numbers are super short so you should size up. Sliding the seat way forward on the rails is a good plan too because if the slack SA. Some of the kit that comes on them OE is a bit questionable, but overall they're sweet bikes. I agree with what you said in the video entirely. I actually sold the frame from mine last week to a younger dude. Feels good to know it's going to have another lease of life under him because it's such a good bike!

Awesome, nice to know the bike is still out there shreddin
@JNOTECH
@JNOTECH 4 года назад
What makes the Gen 1 Jeffsy still relevant are the decent geometry (it's not the most slack, but it doesn't have to be) and the progressivity of the frame. The latter simply means that the progressive curve for the rear suspension ramps up more than something like a Trek Remedy or SC Bronson of today. You can run a coil for more of a linear feel or stick with air suspension for more poppiness. You don' t always have to have the latest models to have fun on the trails. Many of the longer reach bikes of today don't always have the advantage all the time, it actually works against you in steeper, technical, tighter turns often found on natural trails. Longer reach gives you an advantage when the trails or sections are more opened up, like as you would see in a bike park.

I rode this bike back to back with the Hightower LT and VASTLY preferred the suspension feel of the jeffsy
@JNOTECH
@JNOTECH 4 года назад
@@mtbsavant5414 I can see why. According to the software Linkage X3, the leverage ratio of the Hightower is quite odd. It is digressive until 40mm of wheel travel, then it gets mildly progressive. The Jeffsy on the other hand is progressive from the beginning, and it ramps up much more than the Hightower (making it a much, much more progressive frame) and tapers out near the end a little. This tells me the Jeffsy is much more supportive in the mid stroke and gives the rider a much more solid platform to push against with your legs

I've a 2015 capra which I built frame up with new 2018-2019 parts. Got a fork off a brand new enduro which was swapped out from new for a upgrade. So apart from the age of the frame it's a 2019 bike. And in all honesty I'm yet to find a bike I like more, the geo is perfect for me. Think the only bike I could replace it with is a 27.5 2020 jeffsy with a 170mm fork. The capra is a really good bike which had a long production run, making them plentiful 2nd hand.

If you want a bike that still feels like an more playful and agile bike that likes to get off the ground but still has modern components and you can buy brand new, look around for the trailbike made by focus, the focus jam 27. It is a 27.5 inch but it has more “old school” vibes and geometry but it’s a really fun bike with a good price point . My friend rides a stumpjumper 29 from the same year and near same components but is about $600 usd more expensive, but it feels way less nimble and playful then my bike even though his is a medium and mine is a large, his bike is also way lighter as they have lighter tires, and wheels, while I have tire maxxis minions dhr/dhr II and stronger tires, I aso have incerts/rim protection + pump + tire repair kit + Two CO2 cartridges. All of this and my bike still feels more playful, I really advice the bike and will probably get the same brand when I have to surrender my bike now. I love the brand and I live by it

that is seriously gorgeous bike. I'll be honest with you though I would never buy it, not because I couldn't afford it, but because I love tinkering plus it's a bit over the top for me. I would much rather buy a less expensive bike and work on it, and upgrade it myself I currently have a GT Aggressor Pro which cost me about $550 brand new when I got it last year, but since then I've upgraded every part on it and now it's worth about $2600. I'm the same way with computers, I would never buy a prebuilt because I would rather build it myself I went from building a $600 PC a few years ago to doing so many upgrades that now it isn't even the same PC and it's worth about $3,000 and that's not $3,000 in chip shortage, GPU scalping price either. But I digress, as i said gorgeous bike, lol.

Personally, I think some bike companies are now going too long and too slack. The wheelbases are getting ridiculous, affecting agility on the trail. I demoed the new Switchblade and Evil Offering and feel like I'd actually need to downsize on both, when I used to be on the cusp of possibly upsizing. I guess some people like the extremes of modern geometry, depending on their riding style, but c'mon, when is it too much? First gen models like this YT and the Following are more than enough (in travel and geo) than most people need for typical trail riding.. and if we're honest, can be a lot more fun as well. Just my humble 2 cents..

The value I got with the jeffsy vs like the trek remedy I was also looking at in the same price range was well worth it. It has the e13 mechanical dropper and e13 wide range gear set. I don't know why someone would pay that much for a full suspension bike. went you can build a better one for almost half the price. I was able to get all Shimano xtr drivetrain and brakes for around 700$

You should review my 2015 Cannondale Trigger 29. Its a bit like this but even moreso. Super fast handling and the best technical climber I've ever ridden, yet still can be ridden with confidence on the gnarly stuff.

I have a 2020 Jeffsy comp 27.5. Definitely love it, and it is the EXACT bike i want, but my only other bike to compare it to (that i sold to buy my YT) is a 2018 Trek Fuel ex 8 29 and that bike is very far from Playful\fun.

I've been riding the same jeffsy but 27 al version for over a year and it's amazing. Check my channel to see what it's capable of if you know what you're doing. Rode chatek and morzine bike parks, all the trails at revolution bike park and some wild natural welsh enduro. This bike can do it all, it's cheap its reliable and solid. Just get rid of the stock dropper and enjoy. Thanks for the vid, cheers!

Modern trail bikes have become too long, big, slack and total overkill for most trails rides. XC bikes just don't do it for me. And absolutely no need for a enduro where i live. Give me a shorter, semi slack, sorta light tail bike to FUN with.
