Been looking for THIS video for weeks. Real world overload of THIS truck. Thanks man. I have been a 3/4 ton guy for a long time, but I hardly tow at all any more. This weight is exactly what I would tow a couple times a year at most…thanks. This at least lets me know it’s doable, and relatively safe.

Great video! I think this is the most weight that I've seen a 3.0 tow on youtube. I was impressed to see that it just idles down the highway at 1200 to 1500 RPM. The 5.3 would definitely had to have been turning way more RPM to produce the torque. I really like my 3.0 but haven't towed anything with it yet so this was good to see.

I have a 2021 3.0L duramax elevation. I tow my pressure washing trailer with it 3-5 times a week. It has a 500 gallon water tank and when full, that alone is 4300lbs. With all the other equipment plus trailer when full it's weighs approx 8500lbs and it handles it just fine. I've towed with it since new and now have 51k miles on it. I make sure to take care of thr Maintence on it such as diff oil changes and recently changed transmission oil at 45k miles. I use amsoil for everything including oil changes.

This is really the best towing video I've seen here. I like this man isn't really trying to promote the truck but rather demonstrating its ability to tow heavier than factor set loads. Nice to see a heavy tow from the 3.0L. Now that they have the tow rating up to 13k with the 2023s I'm considering trading in my 2500 for one. Also thought those hills looked familiar. One thing I have found with my 2022 GMC 3.0 babymax is that it will pull wayyyyy more than the truck can handle. The rear leafs are freakin weak. I am going to put the helwig add a leaf or the overload bump stops. Very little weight and it’s bottoming out. They are sprung soft! But. Saying that. This is my favourite truck I have owned I think. The engine and brakes seem to handle the load fine, and the transmission temp on mine never went high. I pulled about 6k lbs car+trailer in my '20 Z71 RST about 550 miles. Truck said 17.5 MPG average. I could hammer down and get up to 70 at the end of the ramp every time. I think yours is right on the mark with the load you were pulling. After pulling with a 5.3 and 6spd and getting 7-8 MPG previously, I will never go back to gas. The flip side is the 6.2, but the premium fuel requirement was a no for me which is why I went with the 3.0. Half of the magic with the 3.0 comes from the 10spd trans which is all around good even with the 3.23 rear gear. Emissions aside, they can get more power out of it, but the 1500 chassis and driveline components probably couldn't take it. I'm happy with mine exactly the way it is. Typically 26 average daily and 29-30 on long highway trips. I rarely get less than 600 miles to a tank. I think I had 490 once when doing a lot of slow city driving.

Thanks for posting this man. What's your rear diff? I have a 3.21 and am thinking about a 3.92. How was the braking? I read that these engines can take it but the brakes suspension are what the tow and haul limit is based on.
@panchovia
@panchovia Год назад
That is true, I just towed 12,700 pounds my weight rating is 9100 pounds truck squatted a lot as you would think engine never sounded like it was working these engines can handle a lot of weight I was at a gross vehicle weight rating of 18,300 pounds and the truck could still light the tires up in first gear. I would never want to tow that much weight again in a half ton or do it on a daily basis. I had to get my tractor to town.

Everyone always talks about torque,of a diesel but watch the STV with the Diesel vs Eco boost and the Diesel doesn't have the horsepower to pull like a gas motor, If you want real gas mileage you need to fill up do a run than see how much fuel you need to fill up that's the only real way to do gas mileage, congratulations on the new truck very nice👍👍That pretty truck will be pulling that matryx soon😂😂

@KotaBearTV

It's the z71 with off road package so it already has a softer rear end but yes wish it was just alittle stiffer for bigger loads
@geothermopudge8475

It’s actually stiffer than all trucks in this class, my company has 2016 z71 a 2019 f150 and a 2021 rst z71 3.0 both z71 lose less bumper height with the same trail load tandem axel deck over 14k trailer

You wont be happy until the rear engine belt driven oil pump let's loose around 150k miles and to repair it the transmission must be removed this is the reason I didn't buy a truck with the 3.0 dmax

I won't have this truck past 60 k so don't bother me any
@monunyabidness5949
@monunyabidness5949 2 года назад
Definitely one of the least intelligent designs. They should have just made it a chain if they were going to put that in the rear of the motor. But then they probably would've cheaped out on the chain guards or something to make you still have to remove the transmission for something basic.
@v8chevy788

Definitely not a big enough issue to avoid buying this fantastic engine. When's the last time you put a 150K on a vehicle and how long did it take you to get there?
@David-yy7lb
@David-yy7lb 2 года назад
@@v8chevy788 it took me 3 years to put that many miles on my 08 gmc duramax, currently I have just over 580k miles on the same crankshaft driven oil pump, that rubber band on the 3.0 wont last that long
@v8chevy788
@v8chevy788 2 года назад
@@David-yy7lb Ok. You sir drive a lot of damn miles (LOL)...most folks that I know won't keep a vehicle that long so it wouldn't be an issue for them. With that said, not everyone needs an HD 6.X liter diesel, so of the 1500 series diesel options, I'd take the 3.0 duramax all day long over the competition, including the 1500 gassers, even if it does require a belt replacement at 150K. I'm just more curious of how long the 3.0 lasts overall as the V8 duramax appears to run forever...
