The Ford Edge ST is unique. Sure it's built on the same platform as the rest of the Edge lineup but it's powered by a 2.7L twin turbo engine. It has incredible performance, incredibly comfortable seats and seating for up to 5 people

*I wish they made the 400 horsepower engine available in the Ford Edge and the Lincoln Nautilus. It would fit in both engine compartments.*

That would be pretty crazy! There's an ECU tune available that can give the 2.7L EcoBoost a bump from 335 to about 388 hp

@@superbrownbrown VR Tuned and Vivid Racing both have ECU tunes for Edge ST. A tune could potentially void your warranty but you could also reach out to a local performance Ford dealer to see what they would recommend as well

I picked up my 2019 the same day that you released this video. I (nor the dealer) can't seem to get the foot activator to work correctly.

Oh that’s interesting. Does it just not work or does it work sometimes?

I’ve had a 2019 ST 401A since October 2018. I’ve found the foot sensor to be nothing but irritating and useless because you look like a moron because it never works.

I’ve had. 2019 ST 401A since late 2018 and am looking at ordering a 2022. The only thing I can’t stand about mine is the horrid 8 speed transaxle. I’m hoping that them tuning out 2nd or third means it’s a more satisfying drive. I need to test drive one to verify it’s better because the 8 is so bad. I despise that it holds the gears so long getting onto the interstate. I really hope they go RWD like they did with the Explorer with the next iteration.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 3 года назад
I did notice that it was a pretty smooth ride and it did change gears well. I normally drive in sport mode to get the engine to rev higher. Don't think Ford would change the drive train for RWD on this unfortunately. No guarantee it's going to still be around past 2023 when the contract for production runs out in Oakville
@DeanT1987
@DeanT1987 2 года назад
the 2021 Edge ST is completely different in terms of gearing it's actually a 7 speed gearbox not 8 speed(well its the 8 speed gear box and they deleted one gear) so they were able to space out the gears more and the computer doesn't hesitate to choose gears. Test drove it, worlds of difference buttery smooth and no hesitation. Sport Mode is a dream.

@@DeanT1987 Hopefully I didn't screw up wording in the video and say 8 speed transmission! Agree with you 100% on sport mode - it makes such a huge different in the way it handles

These are decently nice but are now almost mid 55k and probably close to 60 after taxes tag and title on a new one--there is a ton of nice vehicles in that price range.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 2 года назад
It does open up a lot more options at that price. Which others would you also consider in that range with similar specs?

@@CarsWithSteve Sadly I have had bad experiences with reliability and dealer treatment by Ford and would get an RDX A spec from Acura or a GV 70 from genesis.I actually like Ford products--but they shortcut on things and then the dealers make you miserable to fix stuff.I took a chance and went from honda---and I do not like Hondas, but reliability trumps everything else--and bought a KIA stinger last year and have had no problems with the car--and when it had a recall they ubered me home.The edge is in aniche spot because its performance matches vehicles that are a little more then it--but if you go on the forum--lots of issues--especially with the transmission.Fords also do not age well--after about 3 years they show age more then any other brand I have bought--and I have owned mazda--honda--kia--pontiac--chevy and even a GMC truck for a year--Honda and KIA have been the best so far about everything from reliability to performance to the dealer.

Wow sounds like you’ve owned quite a few brands! That GV 70 looks pretty nice and good reliability from that dealer group in general. I liked the stinger when I was in it a few months back and am liking Dodge more every time I do a review on them. The performance and power on the Edge ST is pretty good compared to some others in the same class. I’m hoping longer term the drop to the 7 speed transmission will make things better 🤞

I just got a 2020 fully loaded ST with 9k miles on it for $36k the day after Xmas. Sticker on them was $56k just a couple years ago. Dealer had it marked at $42k, I talked them down to $36k because they wanted to get rid of it before end of the year. Deals are out there to be had.

If this vid is a new as it says, I’m pissed…😡 the dealer told me it wasn’t available anymore 2 weeks ago, so I had to place an order for one here at BRANT COUNTY FORD …

Yeah this one was available when the video was shot but was sold not long after. Unfortunate that you had to look at a factory order but at least you have the benefit of potentially getting different factory incentives when your vehicle is ready for pickup!

Higher octane will decrease your perforce... that's the entire purpose of octane.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 2 года назад
Erm.. can you show some science to back that up? From my understanding the higher octane means greater resistance to knock which makes combustion happen earlier. The engine controller would take advantage of that to dial in more aggressive timing and higher boost pressure The big question is if it's worth it or not. In a Civic probably not.. in the Edge ST.. if you really value performance and can justify the cost of higher fuel it would
@leifashley
@leifashley 2 года назад
@@CarsWithSteve Sure. Additives (Octane from this point on) chemically act as an ignition inhibitor and octane just a measure rating. There's no chemical called 'octane'. Additives raised the anti-knock rating of fuel so that it doesn't combust before the plug spark, which is the knocking you hear. High compression engines and engines running at high RPMs will cause this effect, and additives change the fuel so this occurs at higher levels. However these additives, being ignition inhibitors, offers no extra power in the fuel than the fuel itself nor does the engine controller even know what type of fuel you put in the vehicle. Otherwise it would compensate for low octane ratings and you wouldn't get knocks in the first place. All of the above is verifiable rather easily from google and wikipedia where pages talk about the AKI or R+M/2 ratings. You can find information on this here at least: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antiknock_agent en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_gasoline_additives en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating Octane equaling more power is a popular misconception, usually because games tend to have "high octane boosts" that push the myth. But especially in racing circles, 600cc sport bikes in my case, you learn the details. The only time a computer will dial in more aggressive timing is if the engine goes into a sport/race mode where it also adjusts the air/fuel intake, but none of that is fuel compensation dependent.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 2 года назад
Appreciate the research you put into your response! What you're saying makes sense but I'm trying to buy into the idea of the higher octane fuel not having an impact unless the car is tuned differently. There's a video by Jason at Engineering Explained where there was a dyno test done on a 1.6L VW Golf that had 2 cylinders fed regular octane fuel and 2 were fed a higher octane. Without doing any tuning the higher octane put out improved performance. Check out the video here if you have a few mins - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gqvhaPLuTPI.html Here's a more recent one breaking down a few cars that recommend but don't require premium fuel ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dxAQmj3P8xs.html Most of these saw an improved MPG and a slight improvement in the hp/torque with premium and no additional tuning I know in tuner circles they rave about stage 1/2 tunes and the performance gains from that alone - so now I'm going to need to find a shop to do some testing at!
@leifashley
@leifashley 2 года назад
@@CarsWithSteve Right, the issue you're talking about is a power loss under pinging. That can happen. If that video holds true, the question would be why. Sadly I wouldn't use a VW at all for this type of test due to the legal and engineering issues they've had in the past, but any other car should work. Technically, if you're using a premium high octane fuel you don't need, a lesser quality octane fuel should get you better MPG and power, so that matches. I was surprised by all this as well, but I've seen it in racing circles. But tuned and modified bikes, in particular, have much higher compression ratios so we have to use higher there to not get stutters. This was before bikes got EFI as well. It's fun stuff - lemme know what you find :)
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 2 года назад
@@leifashley I was thinking the same thing about the bike vs cars for compression but will keep you posted when I get the chance to get a car that would work well for some dyno testing. Cheers!
