Pre-Final for the second round of the 2021 GoPro Motorplex Karting challenge in the Briggs heavy class. The day was going so well. I was in the top 3 in lap times every time I went out on the track, 3rd in practice, fastest in my qualifying group that would set me up to start on the outside pole for the Pre-Final. The first start was waved off and when we finally got rolling on the second attempt I didn’t have the best launch and settled into 3rd. All day long I was struggling with my rear tires sliding through turn one. On the second lap I went into turn one and the kart wouldn’t turn. It slid wide and I tried to turn it back but I didn’t catch it in time and hit the turn one barrier. The contact bent the left from steering. I was able to limp the kart around and finish in 7th. After the race I found the left front spindle ear was bent down a lot and outer tie rod end was also bent. Thank goodness the guy that builds MGM karts is always at the track for support. He was able to bend the spindle back and we got the tie rod end bent back. Put the lasers on the front end and checked everything. Had it put back together and ready to race again in no time. Thank you Paul Rice of MGM chassis for helping me out and getting me back in the race. I start the final in 7th with some work to do.
