Want to know what the team back at Hamamatsu set out to achieve with the new GSX-S1000? We look at the features and benefits and talk to test rider Ren Tabata and assistant chief engineer Yusuke Ohata about the project.
While I agree with the upgrades other bike companies are doing to stay relevant in the market. I'm not seeing the innovation part in these models from Suzuki. The new Hayabusa and now GSX-S aren't really paving new grounds here. They seem just "good" enough not to fall behind the competition too much.
@@kugangles9860 You can ride a bike entire of life and it's still working fine. They display so many stuffs on the screen and that's not a good choice for what you can't change
Well here in the US we no longer have a Z1000. It was replaced by the Ninja 1000sx which is more of a full fairing sport tourer. Closest thing we have to a Z1K is a Z900 which is not really fair to compare the two.
@@kugangles9860 I was in the market for a used Z1000, but I guess not anymore. Kawasaki screwed up the Z900 by being cheap as always. Like they couldn't even give the Z900 radial calipers smh. Even the swingarms are cheaply made. I rather get an MT09/XSR900 or even MT07 or SV650 over Z900.
@@gsxraiders i had the z900 from new and was very impressed with the look of the bike, but it lacked soul and like you said, there was a lot of corners cut to make this budget bike look good but it does not perform very well. Such a shame i wish these engineers would have more balls to the higher ups and stop making shitty bikes that just look good :/
@@motomoves4807 It's a love/hate things with these 4 Japanese companies. They seem to always throw away the chairs and keep the table lol. You either have to put up with their shit or accept European price+reliability lol.
*Wowww Suzuki, absolutely no stone unturned for S1000, Now please update baby gixxer S750 too, it badly needs updates like revised styling, slipper clutch and make it weigh little lesser & your sales would rock!!!* 🌟
Love the updates. But they really do need to revise about 4 of the 6 gears in the transmission. First through third need lowered, fifth through sixth need raised. They are too close together. Fuel economy could easily be increased with cruising RPM and the launch wouldn't be eating clutch plates due to a too tall first gear. Also it needs electronic cruise control. ZX-10R, S1000RR, MT-09SP, MT-10, S1000R, as well as some Bavarian, Austrian, and Italian bikes all have cruise control. It's a BLESSING on longer rides, especially with the wonderful 19L tank on this update. Few compromises. I really like this 2022 refresh. Top notch.
I've seen some TFT that are near impossible to read in sunlight. Much less legible than a white-background analogue needle. I find it a regression, not progression.
personally i hate the front of this bike, they used "dirt bike" inspired parts for the tripple clamp? like why would they tell us that? they clearly were just trying to save money by using parts they already have from other bikes.
Styled for a market that doesn't exist ....these short seats are a mystery to me too....all look the same....terrible.....not to mention all the Electronics.
I just spoke with the rep when pre-ordering my S models for the US. There is no plans for a f models but they are in the work of a touring model. The F model was not popular enough reproduce at least in the United States
I just got GSX S750, find the handlebar low, too much leaning on the handlebar, just to add riser cost a lot because you have to change some cables. I love the height of Sv 650 Handlebar, much better seating position, les pressure on hands.
I had a 2018 GSX S1000A. Loved that bike. Unfortunately summer of 2019 i had a run in with a deer and the insurance wrote it off. Been looking for another bike and nothing compares or gets my heart racing like the GSX. I wish this would come in Canada sooner than the fall, our riding season is pretty much iver then. This will definitely be my next bike as long as the price stays similar to the last model.
The S-1000 updates are great, but I'm really hoping for is an update to the S-750, liter bikes, even in naked configuration are too much for the city/road.
The 750 is so darned good already, I have a hard time seeing what they can do to improve on it. If they need to update it to rbw for Euro 5, I hope they can do so without screwing up the GSXR like crispness and aliveness. I they were to rbw it, I would want cruise control, though. But cruise control don't seem to be a big priority to the Japanese makes. Maybe cops in Japan don't have their entire pension funded by riders pointlessly pulled over for accidentally going 5mph over the limit for 5 seconds by accident....
@@paulnorman8274 The most obvious updates would be a proper color tft dash and led lights, rider modes and better breaks. I would not change the engine, but they will have to for Euro 5.
Cruise is wonderful. Just demo'd a MT-09SP today and locked in cruise. It's so nice. It only requires throttle-by-wire which many bikes are equipped with now, and some switches and ECU programming.
Please Suzuki, put the engine from the Hayabusa in the bike and you have the perfect hyper naked-bike! With 160 Nm torque, the motorcycle would be unrivaled.
The B-King was a stylistic turd, in my opinion. Like sitting atop two trashbins and the tank off a Harley between your thighs. This S1000 is a hundred miles better styling wise, and with 150 whp (after a good tune) I'm not sure you'd want a Hayabusa engine below with all the extra weight, gyro momentum slowing handling, bulky transmission built to withstand monster power. It wouldn't be nearly as agile. Stable, yes. It would be the difference of fun-below-100 vs. fun-only-above-100 (along with hurricane force winds on a naked bike).
Really like the look of this, will there be a updated F model. Imagine it with the same headlight would remind me of the sert endurance bike, would look awesome.
A very heavily underrated bike. Heavily. Great to see the bi-directional quick shift and improved engine components. A real weapon that is very easy to use.
@@sugarrfree once you have it you realize how nice it is, well for me that's what happen. I travel long roads to works or weekend trips and it helps a lot with numb hands and being able to stretch a bit move your arm a bit. Maybe it's a age thing to lol I'm 40 now, I cramp up easily lol.
The only thing I don’t understand is why a 1000cc sports bike needs start assist? If you can’t get a bike rolling off the start you don’t belong on this machine. That, and 1000 nakeds are always easy anyways with their torquey engines and short gearing. I fear it’ll make it feel inorganic and. I. Don’t. Want. That.
I don't think they realise how fragile those new headlights appear to be. The don't look like they could deflect anything (stones/debris) flying up at them on UK roads. Doesn't look like a bike I would want to take out in bad conditions tbh. Leaves could get stuck on those lights when it's raining and you not be able to see where you're going and crash. It just doesn't make sense to have stepped flat headlights with ledges..
@@usbsol such a simple thing for them to add, that would make any bike a great bike and a do it all bike. Without the under panel wheel arch attachments that are weak. And also for them to stop using indicators that look like useless ears on the lower fairings. They could easy make them flush, top and front mounted, which would make them look better overall.
I like this but I also like my 16 model to. But mine isn’t stock either. It’s look so much better then stock. Getting that big ugly fender off it helped a lot and adding a tinted windscreen did even more for the looks.
i really hope suzuki updates their 2017 Gsxr line, and implement their hydraulic VVT system, BMW uses the most sophisticated VVT system on an inline 4 bike. suzuki is currently at the bottom when it comes to technologies on sportbikes.
Nearly at the top when it comes to durability, reliability, longevity. Buy what you like.... a gizmo plastered two-wheeled laptop, or a motorcycle that touches your soul.
I would very much like to see an upgraded and improved new version of a lighter and better finished Vstrom 650. But PLEASE, do not make another heavier bike as you have done with the Vstrom 1050. Lighter is the way to go with adventure bikes. The Ténéré 700, for instance, wheighs 200 kgs.
This literally holds 6 liters more fuel. Hahaha The first thing I looked for on the Katana was fuel capacity. When I saw that tiny tank, I just about spit at my screen. hahaha
Somebody please teach Suzuki on designing clutch actuating mechanism. They employ complex cam mechanism to convert linear cable movement into axial motion. Where as Honda use simple lever mechanism on the cluch cover itself making cluch lighter (ever for 1000cc bikes ) and progressive in action.
Nope. 2016 motoGP blue was the best looking bike ever made, this 2021 is just bad, like any MT yamaha junk. Not for me, all i freaking wanted was a GSX-S1000R AHHHHHRRRRRRRRRR. Not a SUZUKI MT-10- uglyyyyyy. It sounds like I'm a little irritated it's because I am I had a 2016 I wrote it hard I had a RU-vid channel Suzuki personally contacted me to use my footage and then they give us a fucking MT 10. OK Suzuki I've been with you for 10 years now riding the dragon and supporting your product so I hope you read this. Yo my homeboy is Michael Duncan yeah he's the X national super sport champion for one year and that's why I was riding around with him and me and him both SUZUKI ALL DAY. But you're killing me here I want either a new GSX--R750R or maybe update the drz-400sm or GSX-S750R and don't get me started on your freaking color schemes I can't even find a decent looking bike from Suzuki. Bottom line Suzuki if you want to go ahead and be the biggest manufacture of motorcycles in the world and sell more than everybody I think you need to hire people that you don't have working for you already, I'm picturing a bunch of younger people that all like anime. I think you need to hire a couple people from each continent and have them work together on their individual continent because as far as color schemes go the world differs greatly.I myself cannot stand maroon red, silver, and orange, and straight black is boring it's for young people or middle-aged people but not for people who want to live because they wanna be seen
horrible.. it's just an upgrade of the previous models.. should have at least gone with the new gixxer engine if you're gonna do something new.. just sayin
