Hydraulic Lifers will limit top RPM's but low maintaince time and costs.. Varialbe valve timing still very good low RPM torque.. Any Modern Motorcycle can be brought to life as they all run too lean stock for Emissiosn.. Just give them 5% more fuel and you get more throttle response .. more drivability ect..
Most Dyno Read outs will also give you corrected HP for sea level and a ceratin temp and humidy @ 10,000 feet seems I recall any natually aspirated egine looses 40% of it's Power.. Skidoo now has a computer controlled Turbo on their 800 CC two stroke that a makes the same HP at Sea Level as it does at 10,000 feet Or get a Yamaha 4 stroke powered snowmobile with 225 HP if you don't mind all the extra weihgt of a 4 stroke
Everything I'm reading/learning about, is saying it wasn't designed for higher torque numbers. Excessive torque at low speed off-road riding, would just necessitate more electronic mitigation so you don't wreck all the time. It seems to me its designed to rev out more for highway travel, so high torque isn't needed.
@@ShawnZiemba Perhaps....but my dirt bike is all about torque and I have no problem off-roading with that. I expect it has as much to do with meeting a regulatory environment in California as rideability. Time will tell as more reviews come out. Thanks Shawn.
A stock M8 doesn't make much more - maybe 90-95 TQ, but it makes 70% more power than a stock M8. I'd also like to see a little more torque, but I can say that at any rpm above 4000, this thing will pull hard in any gear.
It has plenty of torque for a 540 lb bike. A stock big twin 114 M8 on a 800+ lb bike only has 120 ft-lb and revs to 5k before it runs out of steam. The PA revs to 8300 before it quits making power. It has plenty of torque. Pulls from 2.5k to 8.3k with a flat broad curve. The bike has so much power that the off-road modes reduce power from 150hp to 100hp (at the crank). Fuel Moto has a slip-on pipe and PowerVision tuner combo that increases the Dyno torque to 91 ft-lb and hp to 147! Those are significant gains. The SE Extreme flow air filter would offer gains as well.
@@chrissmith7669 Heavy Poor handling Cruiser frame .. poor brakes a dangerous bike to ride.. won't stop can't handle twisties.. I see they made a non Registed Drag Bike version that was pretty quick in the quarter mile
@@chrissmith7669 I was talking about the V-Rod a Modern Liquid cooled Engine .. but in a road couch chasis .. Heavy weak brakes bad handling not much lean angle .. I don't know a Street Rod from a Road Gluide they are all road couches too .. Forward Controls poor handling heavy bad brakes..
@@mikeskidmore6754 you should look for a V-Rod Street Rod. It’s no Road couch. It’s a pretty good sports cruiser but not what the die-hard Harley riders wanted.
This was a pretty pointless video. I mean it gives a rough idea, but really, you need to break the bike in first, put some 93 octane in the tank, try a 4th gear pull, and for the love of all things fast, stop rolling into the throttle! Also, while you may have started in sport mode, the computer disabled all assists as well as mode selection when it detected only the rear wheel spinning. In order for you to change modes again, you had to turn the ignition off and start the bike again.
HP is more than enough but that torque is disappointing for a v-twin. This bike is probably suited for highway rides more than trail riding despite the off-road pretense. Overall, it is still quite impressive but the Japaneses, German, Italians and Austrian have nothing to worry about.
Their website said "we took delivery yesterday and dyno this morning". The numbers suck because they didn't break it in first. Let those rings get seated and it be a different story.
@@eddierock5072 I'd be surprised if it even had 93 octane in the tank for these pulls. Also, watch the video again, but only look at his throttle hand... This is a pointless video and should be removed as it gives people a horrible misconception of this bike. To give you a better idea, I raced a stretched and lowered Hayabusa that had some work done to it today... It was only about 1 second quicker than me and that was my first time ever drag racing a motorcycle, so I didn't leave the line as hard as possible. I have it all on video. I'll upload it tonight...
I agree if hp was the only goal. That 131 is going to be a hell of a lot more fun though. The difference between even my stock 114 Fatbob and my Pan America makes me remember why torque is so much fun. The Pan America is obviously faster, but its more of a climbing rush of adrenaline rather than the instant throw your head back kick the back end out and chuckle that I'm used to with the Fatbob.
@@depthsounderdave I rode a Fat Bob 114, FXDR 114 and the Pan America back to back. There was a noticeable torque difference in the 114. I also agree the Pan America will snap the speedo way faster than the 114 machines. The high revving characteristics(for a v-twin) features for price and the capability of Pan America made it a no brainer for me to purchase.
@@OhioGuy82 agree, if I was in the market for just one bike the Pan America is a better all rounder. I get a lot of head turns with both bikes. If I'm bombing the boulevard going out to dinner it's the Fat Bob. If I want to put some distance between me and this town it's the Pan Am.
I rode my r1250gs back to back with the PA. The PA needs a quick shifter otherwise it’s not much quicker, I also had a s1000xr… it would spank my gs and the PA. The quick shifter on both of my bmw have spoiled me and make the bikes much quicker.
Manufacturers typically give their horsepower numbers at the crank. Bikes lose 10 to 15% of that power through the driveline. 150 minus 15 percent is 128 hp! Boing!
