Dude! I watched this video 5 months ago, I needed to buy a hybrid car and these were my three options due to my budget, it helped me a lot to finally choose the Hybrid Corolla, I am so happy with my Hybrid Corolla, thank you very much for helping me choose the best option. No mention of warranty differences, I think that’s also a BIG factor. Hyundai offers the best in the states, 5 years unlimited miles roadside assistance , life time battery warranty, 10 year 100k and 3 years of free maintenance. Toyota and Honda don’t come close in that department.

If you went Insight EX in the US, you'd pay $26,155 with one of the upgraded color options. And as an owner of an Accord LX, you will be very happy with the Insight EX. The Insight's most awesome value proposition in my opinion is that you can get the Touring version ($30,185), which is basically only a slightly smaller car than an Accord Touring Hybrid ($37,590), with nearly all the same features of the Accord Touring Hybrid, for $7500 less, while getting about 11 mpg better fuel economy than the Accord Touring HYBRID! This is undoubtedly the genius money play in the Honda lineup. You still get leather, still get moonroof, still get upgraded audio, still get heated seats. The only things you don't get on the Insight Touring that you would on the Accord Touring Hybrid are: Head Up Display (don't care), Ventilated Seats (would be very nice in South FL), and Parking Sensors (don't care). But for $7500 (plus taxes of $525 on that $7500, so call it $8000) I would be more than fine with the Insight without it ventilating my seats or ventilating my wallet. You might feel manlier in your heavy Mercedes status symbol getting 31 mpg at best or up high in your SUV getting 26 mpg at best, but these are survival times economically speaking, and the Honda Insight is such a smart option for staying afloat and getting around inexpensively with all the comforts.

Great video, thank you! A couple of things that are missing and worth mentioning, I believe, are: 1. Hyundai seem pretty confident in their reliability of this generation and give you a significantly better warranty than the Toyota one, actually TWICE as good in some parts. 2. At the dealership, the prices are not so comparable anymore. Toyota adds a huge markup to these cars, and are very adamant about it, while Hyundai, being less than the top name in the game, are willing to be more flexible to be competitive. So, while MSRP is pretty similar, I would recommend going to test drive the cars and get actual prices. ESPECIALLY if you have a trade in and you plan to finance, which gives Hyundai more room to play.

Hyundai provides piece of mind with their 10 year 100,000 miles power train warranty. In the states it's pronounced uh-lawn-truh. I was really hoping to find a video comparing the Elantra Hybrid to the Ioniq Hybrid, but you've given me a couple more cars to consider. I am a driver for many local dealerships. I am a fan of Hyundai's technology, though my 2012 Elantra Limited doesn't even have a back up camera. I was hoping for more detailed specs in your video; cabin size, car length, city and highway gas mileage, wheel size, and the way they handle on the road. I would have preferred less focus on the reputations and costs of the vehicles. Hyundai's Warranty makes up for it's lack of experience. Honda's no transmission seems to imply cheaper repairs, and the Corolla? I'm sure all 3 are great cars, but all I got from your video was how similar they are, their reputations, Hyundai's electronics look better, and Honda doesn't have a transmission. Thanks for that much though.
@kova2331
@kova2331 2 года назад
Hyundai's warranty will not cover the DCT transmission failure. Once DCT fails due to overheating or improper use of the clutch, the dealer considers it "normal wear and tear" and thus will not repair or replace under warranty. At least that's how what I've been told. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think the word you were looking for when describing the interiors of the Honda and Toyota is "antiquated", but, possibly, "unimaginative". And the Corolla is so.., boring. We aren't looking for excitement per se in a Hybrid. But let's look at a little fun.

My view on resale value is that it only really matters if you're looking to trade in your car every so often. If you intend to keep it past 5 years, residual values won't differ all that much between these cars 😅
@carhelpcorner
@carhelpcorner 3 года назад
If you look at the market values of 6-10 year old Corolla and Civics versus the Elantra, they do tend to command higher prices. Both the Corolla and Civic still have that superior reputation for long-term reliability which increases their desirability on the used car market. I'd say the only time resale value doesn't matter is if you plan to buy and keep until the wheels fall off.
@stevenleonmusic
@stevenleonmusic 3 года назад
I dunno about Canada but in the states people will step over their own mother to buy a Toyota or Honda, even with 100k+ miles on it. The resale value for Honda in particular is insane; it actually borders on being a legitimate investment. The same cannot be said about Hyundai or most American-made cars.

I bought a Honda Insight in 2018. After driving I was getting nervous and was losing consciousness and strength in my right hand. I complained to the dealer and Honda company in California but they did not listen. While driving I was getting unconscious, called an ambulance, and had to check the cause, but they couldn’t find any heart trouble or brain trouble or tumors, etc. But later a friend who is an engineer told me that this kind of car is health hazardous. I found out that many have complained about Honda cars for the same problems in the past. After I kept complaining, the Honda dealer asked me to come and promised to change the car. When I went to get another car, he took away 8000 dollars from the faulty car to take it back and sold the other car for more than the price. They never confessed that Honda Insight is a faulty mode and has been discontinued many, many times in the past. I was very hurt. I thank God that I survived, even though they cheated and lied to me. They also wanted me to sell the car to someone, but I couldn’t. I love others as I love myself. I was collapsing. Then how can I give to others? I told them that dishonesty will not bring blessings. But they were so cruel and did not listen, seeing I was a senior and a woman they took advantage of me. They never write when I complain but only talk on the phone. We purchase laws to protect, but we cannot purchase righteous God. Plus, he doesn't care if you are Honda or Toyota. He will fight my battle. I am a missionary living with little income and this giant Honda stole my money, but I tell you my God will give me sevenfold plus back.

They're not the same. The Honda has a physical clutch that engages at highway speeds, connecting the engine directly to the wheels. It's kinda like driving in sixth gear. At lower speeds the engine drives a generator, and electric motors actually move the vehicle. In the Toyota the engine and two electric motors are meshed together with a planetary gear set, and the system doesn't have any clutches or direct drive gears. Both vehicles are able to move on electric power alone for short distances. To the average motorist, both hybrid systems function like a standard CVT.

Bought the 2023 Elantra Luxury Hybrid in Canada several months ago. You failed to mention that it features full independent suspension on all 4 wheels, which greatly assists handling. The power train is lifted directly out of the Ioniq, where it has served flawlessly since 2016. Hyundai designs and builds their own transmissions, so they have full control over the quality and capabilities. This is not true of Toyota, for example, whose transmissions are built by Aisin-Warner. Hyundai also metalurgically designs their own steel, which is why their vehicles typically have 5 star collision ratings while still being quite light. I really dug into the product, and I came away convinced that Hyundai is tremendously undervalued - and underappreciated.

I test drove both Corolla Hybrid and Elantra Hybrid and other than "perceived" high reliability of Toyota there is not a single thing I liked about Toyota. After adding dealer markups on Corolla BASE trim LE hybrid FWD with convenience package, I was saving less than $2k over a fully loaded top of the line Elantra Hybrid Limited trim. With Elantra limited, I am getting much roomier (Elantra back seat rivals that of Camry in terms of roominess) car with TON of useful/luxury features (Heated and ventilated leather seats with memory function , dual zone climate control, dual 10.5 inch screens, power sun/moon roof, cabin ambient lighting, Bose sound system, digial key with ton of remote features, much more sportier looking exterior, 3 years of free maintenance, 5 years bumper to bumper and 10 years powertrain warranty), ton of safety features). Overall, a much more car for my $ than Corolla. Now coming to reliability, Hyundai has poor "History" but they have come a long way and they are consistenly rated close to Toyota. In fact, 2023 JD power reliabilty ratings have placed Hyundai at #8 out of total 33 car brands, which is right after Toyoya placed at #7. At last, one needs to understand that every car brand (including Toyota) will have some dudes and you take calculated risks. Hyundai's super long warranty coverage made this choice easier for me. If you are also in the market for a compact sedan, just don't go blindly by one specific brand in mind. Go and take the test drive, feel and experience different cars before spending 25-30 grands. There are better cars out there with much better value.

So, now with gasoline here in the U.S. nearing or above $4.00 per U.S. gallon what type of miles per gallon does each vehicle receive? I'm sure gas prices in Canada are as high or even higher. As far as reliability goes our 2010 Prius is nearing 200,000 miles, pretty much trouble free. I have to agree Toyota Hybrids are more reliable than the others. Also current Toyota Hybrids have no engine belts to replace and less expensive to maintain. We currently have a 2020 Highlander Hybrid AWD, a 4,500 lb vehicle, that easily averages 35 mpg per U.S. gallon, with summer sometimes over 40 MPG.

I bought a 2022 Honda insight. I love the way it looks.the side cameras let you know if a car is in your blund spots. Has lane notice too. Backup camera is even better then my accord experience. It is a bit off a dog on a small mountain pass. However on straight mostly flat roadways, it's very quiet and a nice ride. I bought the EX-L trim pkg. I would've bought the touring had it been available. Not sure if that would've made it more powerful.def miss the bells and whistles of my Accord EX-L. And the extra room. But the extra mileage and small amount to fill it make me happy

Technically no it is not, but it does share the exact same engine as other models which are part of the recall such as the 2021 Hyundai Kona. I would stay away from the 2.0L Hyundai engine altogether just to be safe.

In Canada Hyundai has a 5 year comprehensive warranty versus Toyota's 3 year warranty. Both, however, have the same 5 year powertrain warranty and the Toyota actually has a better hybrid component warranty. 10 years on the hybrid battery versus 8 years for Hyundai.

This would be a more valid point if the Hondas and Toyotas had quality control issues. I spoke to someone recently with a 2020 Sonata Hybrid that had been in the shop for 7 different warranty covered issues during their first 6 months of ownership. They traded it in to get an Accord Hybrid.

I have to agree that if one purchases a Toyota Corolla Hybrid you pretty much have a trouble free vehicle for 200,000 miles or longer, and still get at least 50 MPG on every U.S. gallon. Also no engine belt or serpentine belt to change, which saves you even more money in the long run.

in my opinion these hybrids are not worth it at all. the premium you pay for these cars will never offset the fuel savings, and as they age, they will all be likely to have more expensive problems than the non hybrid version. they will probably more expensive to plate and insure, they will also be much harder to work on by owners. save your money and dont buy hybrid.

Lol, here in Southern California, we are topping average regular unleaded gas prices $4.68 per gallon, which is likely to keep increasing….I am averaging 67 mpg in my Corolla Hybrid. What planet are you from that you aren’t affected by $5/gallon gas prices?
@dankollars4501
@dankollars4501 2 года назад
@@Adam-mj5hl never once said people are not effected by these high gas prices. i said it will take forever to re-coup the premium you pay for a hybrid. if you pay a $5000 premium for a hybrid, you will have to drive over 100k miles to recoup that extra cost at $5 a gallon and getting 67 miles per gallon.you also must consider the higher taxes and insurance. also consider that most of America is not paying $5 a gallon. and most Americans will not get 67 mpg. even with your extreme conditions you will have to drive 100k miles to break even, and most Americans will not keep a car for 100k miles. do the math. basically im just saying do the math before you buy a hybrid, that great mpg may not be that great after all.
@Adam-mj5hl
@Adam-mj5hl 2 года назад
@@dankollars4501 First of all, the msrp for a Corolla Hybrid is only $3,050 higher than the standard LE gasoline only version ($23,100 vs. $20,050). Second of all, you assume gas prices will plateau at $5/gallon. It doesn’t look as if gas prices will stop increasing in the near future. How much does your calculations change at $6/gallon? Also, what about the environmental aspect of driving a hybrid vehicle, considering that a hybrid vehicle emits, on average, 46% less greenhouse gas emissions compared to a conventional gasoline only engine?

@@dankollars4501 Also, your statement implying that hybrid cars somehow are costlier to maintain or breakdown sooner than conventional gasoline-only cars is just untrue. Especially with Toyota hybrids a la the Prius, you regularly see Priuses lasting 200k-300k miles with regular maintenance. Also, Toyota stands by their hybrid vehicles by hybrid vehicles with a 10 year / 100k mile warranty on their hybrid engines.

@envision2k
@envision2k 3 года назад
The Hybrid model from Honda is typically $1200 more than the gas version. Based on $4 per gallon price of gas, people that drive an average of 12-15k per year will save $400/year on gas for every 10 mpg saved.... so you'll typically break even in 30-36 months on a Hybrid. If you don't keep your cars that long or drive less miles, then a hybrid might not be worth it financially.
