[2021] How to move Wordpress from subdirectory to root directory/folder (remove wp from url)

Important Update 15 Apr 2021: No extra changes are required if you are using elementor. Text you need to replace in index.php file Change the line that says: require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/wp-blog-header.php' ); to the following, using your directory name for the WordPress core files: require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/wordpress/wp-blog-header.php' ); Replace wordpress with your directory name in above line.

Hey man I want to do exactly this however .htaccess already exists in the root because the main site is also in a subfolder. I was wondering do I replace that htaccess with the one in the new site folder as well as the index file?

hey, I have a problem. All my pages shifted to the main domain, but the homepage is still redirecting to subdirectory in which the wordpress site was before. what should i need to change ?

this solution did not work for me. It redirects to my subfolder. I have changed URL of only site URL field in settings page.

Hi I changed back the Elementor url back to the old one. Website is ok. Now how do I edit the website with Elementor

HI, I had successfully updated my website by updating the index.php file in the public_html folder. The website was working. When I updated the url in Elementor to my website url, the site images went missing. What was the problem?

Hi! and thank you! all worked until I removed the /nameOfTheFOlder from the wp panel, after that, I receive a 404 error message. I think the issue is that I'm using elementor. Can you please share the link on how to update the links there? I don't see it in the description. thanks
