You definitely have to watch some bunk sizes out there. I've seen a lot of funny stuff calling itself a "Double Bunk"

That's why mid-bunks became so popular I think -- they actually give you the seating for all the people you're sleeping

Funny how things change like that. I like seeing a luxury fifth wheel from like 5 or 6 years ago come in and having someone say "well it's a little plain" when people used to lose their minds over it

@@JoshtheRVNerd oh no im sure they probably haven't! However we have seen a couple OpenRange models we have liked and few Jayco Models we like. Since we still have at least 2 years before head to up to Haylett we are trying to pin point the ones we want to look at first. We have lists LOL And a notebook filled with questions. :)

Can you paint me a bit of a picture of what it is you're seeking?

Haylett RV yes! I’m looking for something around 25 feet, outdoor kitchen, double sized bunk beds, queen bed preferably facing out like in this model. This one is actually the closest I’ve gotten, I’m just a little bummed it doesn’t have a slide out. No slide out is really what is holding me back in this model. But I’d rather have bigger beds for my growing kids than a slide, I think. Oh and something that can be towed with a mid size suv.

The RV from the factory has two empty propane tanks, jack cranks, and the power cord. That's about it. EVERYTHING else is between you and your dealer to work out. You may want to call your salesperson to get a better understanding of what your money is getting you BEFORE you get there

I am curious as to what about laminated sidewalls catches your attention. There are significant benefits to both types of construction.

Factory builds as shown. Majority of the consumer market has pushed brands away from tubs. We still see them in a few things here and there

I have the choice to camp in just about anything I please working at a big place like this. I Choose to camp in a Jay Flight. I think it's important to remember happy customers *rarely* report their experiences. Most of the reviews you see are from the very-vocal-minority. Jay Flight is the highest volume single series of campers out there since 2005. By sheer volume there will be a few that need a little extra work. I think that's the cause behind the symptom you're seeing.

@@JoshtheRVNerd The difference I see there is tongue weight -- for the Grey Wolf it's 585 and for this 224bh it's 445. I'm finding that that number is SO important but completely impossible to get prior to sale and finding a CAT scale. These trailers are so close to the payload limits of our 2015 F150, even with the max tow package and 7,000 lb payload package. It's really frustrating. This 224bh will push it for us, since the advertised tongue weight is likely 200-300 pounds underestimated. Even that new little Jay Feather 199 that you reviewed is something like 685 advertised...which suggests that the vast majority of half-tons towing just about anything are awfully close to their payload limits with a packed trailer and truck. What am I missing?

All Jay Flights have a propane cooker hooker upper :)

This is a more basic series camper. It's more of the "bare necessities" type. As you move up into a higher budget product like a Jay Feather or White Hawk you'll see features like that more commonly.

Great question! Different brands have different segments or time periods in which they're either a little higher or little lower on that benchmark. The service records of a brand is a key factor in what we do/do not carry (though certainly not the only factor). In two pretty extreme cases we have parted ways with brands for which sales were on fire, but service records were... "Less than satisfactory" seems like a diplomatic way of saying it. So making sure the RV stays in your driveway instead of coming back here is a major factor. We do a LOT of tracking on it. Brands like Rockwood define the idea of "Gold standard camping" in almost every case. Freedom Expresses have really become dialed in recently. Jayco is always a solid choice and the RV I tend to find myself in most of the time (a basic Jay Flight like seen in this video no less!) But I'm not UNhappy with anything we see here. Weirdly you cannot associate price tags with product quality. It truly is the workmanship of the labor force that will determine whether something is solid or not. A great example there is Catalina. There is absolutely nothing special about a Catalina on paper. They're not built using any sort of special materials. Yet we just do NOT see them back for service work. What they do they do WELL -- and they exist in that "Entry Level" price point. We love having them here. A lot has changed since you first got your camper and let me tell you -- it continues to change every day. So I think the best thing I can suggest is to speak with a member of our team (assuming you're willing to offer your business to Haylett's of course) & allow us to really get to know you and your camping goals. That'll let us provide more fine-tuned suggestions.

I just remember the keystone I had (not talking bad about any brand) was held together with little Staples. Keep in mind it was not a lower end keystone either. Anyway thanks again for responding. Typically "Upscale" also includes slides. I can think of nothing in a "luxury class" w/o slides currently

Weight stated in the intro is the dry weight of the RV as it was individually scaled coming off the production line.

It’s not prepped with the ability to flood the roof with panels. Not fully plug and play either. “Prepped” and “ready” aren’t the same thing in RVing. Ready is plug and lay. Prepped like this means they got it started. My recommendation is to work with a local facility who can assist you with more hands on assistance

Most bunkhouses do not include any sort of ladder. Bigger kids usually do not need assistance to upper bunks while things like removable ladders are readily available for the littles to get up/down.

Likely never. Streaming media has generally taken over the design mindset. They leave available HDMI plugs for those still looking to bring along the disc wallet for rainy days

@@thedoc40tt I would not recommend it. By larger SUV I meant more something along the lines of a tow package expedition. By the time you load cargo into this one you're basically smoking 100% of your telluride's capacity which I don't like seeing

It’s probably the absolute most you want to handle, but for keeping things somewhat local probably be OK

It is not, nor can an SLX be made so from the factory. A Full Flight is closer, but white hawks and eagles are tested and proven. Cougar as well.

Jayco doesn't offer factory sink covers for SLX models, but we can get you some from a Full Flight or aftermarket options pretty easily

No RV in this class has extra insulation packages made for protecting the water system in sub-freezing conditions. Cabin temp likely wouldn't be an issue as long as you were pumping the furnace and keeping propane supplied. This is a basic SLX series Jay Flight. The "Full" Jay Flight with Thermal Package will be able to offer some solid extended season service

I definitely agree with that. I cannot speak for Jayco, but if I had to venture a few guesses: * This little guy wasn't really made with a primary focus on entertainment * If I was going to put a TV in, then I'd swap to a swingout mount for sure * If I was going to watch TV, then I'd likely pull the curtain over to the other side to get it out of the way But default though? I definitely agree.

@@JoshtheRVNerd So a swivel one would work here? We're looking at this exact model and that's what has baffled me. We definitely can't use the fixed one because if you're sitting at the dinette then you can't see it. Also, I am wondering if down the road we can remove the dinette and put a couch there to save walking space plus add a little more comfort in seating.

I think so provided the screen isn’t too big. Remember this model wasn’t really made for TV viewing as a primary focus. But I do think it’s some thing went with a good amount you could make work

@@JoshtheRVNerd This is a big hold up with this camper -- we like to watch a movie together some nights. The Puma 22RBC flips the layout and gives a free wall to mount the TV. Here with this 224bh I can't see where to possibly put it. Is there room to mount an arm on the end of the kitchen overhead cabinet next to the door? Also, Josh, opinion on quality Puma vs Flight SLX?
