I love this bike. Just put my first 200 miles on it after 9 years of not riding. I'm 44 and glad to use this as my commuter/weekend bike. Non stop compliments on this red and black. Be safe ya'll.
Man I'm so in love with this bike hopefully in like 2 years I'll get into a motorcycle training school for I could learn and get my license asap because this bike I totally love for a first bike.
You don’t need a motorcycle license you only need a drivers license and a bike permit and you’ll be aloud to ride it legally you just have to keep redeeming the permit
@@X9reアニメ Wow, never would have even thought to look up such a loophole. Will definitely check if this is applicable in my country as well. Thanks so much.
I went to the shop today and wow I was surprised at how small this bike is compared to the normal motorcycles! I'm 5'10" and it looked small on me. It has the size of a scooter in my opinion. Going for the Night Rod Special instead.
I bought this bike last summer as my first bike "2020 version, same specs). I dont regret it. You can adjust the "schift lightning" in the menue. The initial setting to 4K rpm is for the first 1000 Kilometers "ride in" period. In my opinion, the 650 is a Sportive touring bike with more relaxed geometry for longer rides. The 636 is a sports and track oriented bike with more agressive specs and geometry.
I still think my 2019 Ninja 650 had the best color way (orange & black), but the TFT display is so sweet on the 2020 and above compared to the analog tach and small LCD screen or whatever that was. I can't believe Kawasaki isn't putting that display on the 636, that just makes no sense. Man, I miss my bike, an old lady smashed into me cause she doesn't know what a stop sign means and my bike was totaled and my body was broken. I'm recovering okay but will have lasting issues, forever. My left knee and right shoulder will never be the same. I had my bike modded very well and wasn't done but shit happens. I gotta say a full Yoshimura Alpha exhaust really woke that bike up and made it sound freaking awesome. So whoever gets this bike, definitely first mod has gotta be an exhaust and the Yoshi was the best bang for the buck, I got it for 700 bucks, brand new and worth every penny. Btw, I think the 650 is 68HP not 52, but adding a pipe definitely added power. I didn't get the chance to flash the ECU but other people that have says it was freaking awesome and exactly what that bike needs, along with a Sprint P08 filter. ✌️
What shocks me about this video is seeing that you live in an area where you are paying $2.17 a gallon. I use to ride a 650 in 09. Loved it. Great response and nice riding position. Yes, it's a good beginner bike. I've been riding for 12 years and just bought a brand new 2019 636. So disappointed in the quality of the build. It has crazy micro-vibrations and couldn't get the manufacturer to fix it. Sadly, I will never buy a new Kawasaki Ninja ever again. But, I kinda appreciate hearing the same sound on this new 21 650 that my 09 made. It was a solid bike.
The flashing is your shift lamp.. its set low for break in purpose.. can be adjusted with the rideology app. I just got a 2022 matte grey. Love it! Great video
Lol! I knew where you were right when you came up on that corner with BBQ bros. Close to my hometown. Thanks for the video. Laughed out loud about the memory being a block of cheese
Great Review Mr Dillweed! I'm 5'4" so i'm limited to the sports bikes I can ride - This summer I had a choice between a 2nd hand cbr650r and a new Ninja - I opted for the CBR as the in line 4 won me over - saying that, the cbr seat height is a little higher. The new 2022 ninjas will also be available as an 'urban' package where you'll get a free 30 litre top box - perfect!
@@brazzadazza is it street legal ? Cause I know I’ve heard some people say certain exhausts will give you more problems with cops depending what you got
@@bradonrodriguez6586 it depends, in Australia full system exhausts are illegal but slip one aren’t. I’m not sure how it works in other countries though. Also slip ons can create more power surprisingly enough. Here, the Max cc a learner can ride is 650, so if you were to attach a slip on exhaust it would create more power therefore be illegal to ride.
Thanks for the vid. This is a GREAT bike, but SO, SO different from the 636 - the 650 is all day comfortable, the 636 - well, its not. Two totally different bikes and IMO not comparable to each other. The Ninja 650 is basically like a "sports tourer" whereas the 636 is a supersport bike, no question.
I owned a 2014 Ninja 650 and it was a great bike. It was my 7th bike, and I've been riding for well over 20 years. I always found it odd to think of it, or others in its class, as "starter" or "beginner" bikes. Anything that will get you well over 100mph is not in the "starter/beginner" class.
You make perfect sense brother! It’s the biggest beginner bike Kawasaki makes. I looked at the 2022 636 and the 2022 650. I chose the 650 bc it’s more forgiving then 636.
I am may be few months late to reply about your question regarding the flashing light issue. Because it’s a new bike, Kawasaki wants you to ride it under 50 miles per hour until 1st service is done. Btw nice review. You nailed it mate.
I just bought this bike same color scheme and all a week ago for my first bike. The acceleration is amazing, LCD display is flashy, overall appearance is sexy! The exhaust is the only thing holding this bike Bk a little!
The tft is flashing from a shift assist setting to alert you when to shift at set rpms i turned mine off, it can be found in the manuel i dont remember what page
This looks like an awesome bike to start on. I started on a Ninja 250 and def made some mistakes that would have been way worse being on something like a SuperSport. The issue with the 250 was it near topped out 6th gear at highway speeds so I got bored super fast. I like that this seems like a medium where you have enough power to not feel helpless, but it's not too much that it would be unsafe for a beginner and also will give more longevity to a beginner rider. Although it's possible to start on a 600 SuperSport, now that I have one I'm so glad I didn't, the power at 9k rpms+ is just fucking insane. I can't imagine what a literbike can do.
I think the blinking at relatively low revs is a warning because this showroom test bike is under 1000km/600ish miles and you're still supposed to break the bike in and not rev it over 4000 rpm... I tried the Z650 recently, the bike was very new, some 300km done, and the display was blinking like that over 4000rpm. Once broken in that should stop and it will flash only when you approach the rev limiter and are supposed to shift up. It might then even be programmable to flash at a certain rpm you want it to flash at you
It would be crazy if that blinking speedo had something to do if your going over the speed limit like how a GPS system tracks your speed and tells you your speeding
I ride an 1800cc Indian right now. I was looking at and test rode a Ninja 300 today. It was cool, but my skill level is definitely well beyond the 3 or 400. It felt terribly slow. Considering the 650, but I am a shorter rider. I'm 5'8" and have to tippy toe the 650
They out the tachometer to flash at 4,000 for break in. After 250 miles you can move it to 6,000, then after 600 miles you can drive however. You can go into settings and adjust when it flashes which is pretty cool
If you've run a Ninja 400 for a while and want to go bigger, the ZX-6R is like stepping from a Honda Fit into the Acura NSX. It's not a slight upgrade, it's wildly different. The Ninja 400 and 650 are comfortable sporty street bikes. The ZX-6R is a racetrack weapon. Not as comfortable, very stiff (by comparison), super high strung power, radical ergonomics (by comparison), four-cylinder characteristics instead of a twin. If you want to upgrade from a Ninja 400 and stay around similar ergonomics and use, I'd recommend another brand. Yamaha MT-07 (or the rumored YZF-R7 version coming). Suzuki GSX-S750. KTM Duke 790. Honda CBR650R or CB650R.
If you wanted to lay on the tank like a super sport when on the highway could you? Im new to riding and im looking at this bike as my first bike but I dont really know the ins and outs of different riding positions. Also can we get feedback on ABS versions of this bike. Is it worth getting the ABS system. BTW I am in Florida but I WILL wear a helmet.
I owned a blue 2013 Ninja 650 back in the day and absolutely LOVED that bike… except yes, the vibrations were terrible. I’m curious to know as well if Kawasaki has addressed this with the newer models
In Australia the full powered 2021 Ninja comes in grey and the restricted versions comes in teal. Brand new full power version is just over 10k which is similar to the SV650 full powered version. The Honda cb650 only available as the restricted (51-54 hp) which is about 11k. The Yamaha MT07 full power is about 14k. So the Ninja 650 and Suzuki SV650 full powered versions is the best money can buy if brand new in the 650 class. Second hand is the best option IMO.
Most to all motorcycles make a clunk when going into gear from neutral. Usually larger the displacement, the louder the clunk. Like there’s a tiny clunk on my 125cc bike but a big one on my 1000cc
I want a bike instead of a car I’m turning 21 next month but still have a slight fear of driving a car but for some reason a bike doesn’t seem as scary any tips?
Hello , i own a scooter bws (50cc) I am 15years ils in Canada and I was considering what motocycle I should take , : z400 or z650 or ninja400 or ninja650 thank you and also, what could I say to my parents to get them done with the idea that I get a bike ? At 16
It's "entry" level but yet does a quarter mile in 12.3 seconds. The C7 vette (with a manual) does the quarter mile in 12.2 seconds. Very few people will buy a Ninja 650 and be able to actually push it to its limits.
It feels nice cruising next to cops and them not batting an eye at you and to have fun without having to break the speed limit, ride safe guys, it’s not what you ride it’s where you’re going 💪🏼
Is this a good first bike for a girl who is 5’4 haha... I’ve been thinking of the ninja 400... but it’s gonna hop on the freeway quite a bit so I’m worried in that sense. Any idea? Thank you!!
I'm just 5'4 just got out from a dealer today and sat on it. Both of my foot touching the floor about 1/4 of my shoes..Very low seat :) But also you need a little bit of strength to handle it or to balance it.. Because when you put full tank of gas is a little bit heavy when you're on stop light and the bike lean a little bit on one side. As you progress it will take a while to upgrade because it as a lot of power in acceleration. You will not easily get bored :)
@@OKBAOK I think I’m going to end up getting the ninja 400. It’s my first bike I’ll see how it do on that one. Plus it’s cheaper, I like to think I’m strong but the weight is a bit of a worry for me starting off honestly.
@@Kaitlynsfashion Yes cheaper and lighter plus you're a girl. 400 is best for you actually 400 has enough power for your needs street and freeway..Good starter bike for you..
The bike is rated at 67 HP / 47 lb-ft torque, and these are excellent first bikes for anyone who expects most of their riding to be done in town/city. They have the same kind of engine power profile as the 500s used to, and it's ideal for the type of riding described above. The torque comes on early, so it's no problem to weave through packs of cars to get to the next light. And they're narrow and nimble. They are what they are - unintimidating, predictable, versatile beginner's bikes. The 650-class bikes, imo are a much better choice for most beginners than 300s in that most people won't be wishing they had more power after 6-9 months on the 650 vs. the 300. Most folks seem to be satisfied with a 650 for 3-5 years. Or at least to keep it around for quick trips even if they've moved on to faster machines. There are usually a few good, late model examples available used in the 5-6K range here in the U.S.
I really love how this bike looks. But, as you said, it doesn’t sound that great. I really love how the Ducati Supersport 937 sounds, but it’s a lot of money compared to this. Seems to hit all my boxes, but it’s pricey lol
@@theprofessionaldillweed6235 Dillweed! I’m in a pickle.. and I need your ever-long wisdom on motorcycles.... I passed my road test etc etc etc (yay me) and, looking to buy my first bike. Ninja 650 ABS was my first choice... but... been thinking about Zero E. Bikes, and Harley’s Livewire.... give me your opinion, or maybe a video regarding E.bikes... and if you’d even recommend them for beginner riders? Thanks man!
Noor E oh man.. coming to the Dillweed for wisdom.. that’s where you’ve messed up... but here’s my two cents; I’ve never ridden an E-bike nor have I had a dealership that sells them let me ride one but from what I know about them is that it’s such a different type of riding and a much different feel but I wouldn’t be able to give my honest and complete opinion without throwing my leg over one :)
400 is very reasonable, don’t let a dealer tell you you NEED a bigger bike. You’d be fine on a 650 as well, you’ll have a bit more power for freeway passing on the 650 but if a 400 is what you’re comfortable with starting do that not what the sales guy thinks
@@colbyd.5044 it's lighter and the seating position is slightly more aggressive. It revs higher, handles better and there are way more mods for it compared to the 650. If you want a 650 look into the CBR650R, that would be my pick
@@listocalisto8124 it is, bit what you get for the extra $2500 is worth it. Inline 4 with 25 more hp, better brakes, better suspension, traction control. Well worth it. I hate the display though
that P-twin sound is the one thing that'd keep me off this bike. In my experience withe 2014 Versys: with the same engine: It does sound throaty when you whack open the throttlle, but any other time the engine sounds like crap and it doesn't matter what kind of pipe you put on it. Which means stock is best since it's the quietest. It's too bad because I like almost everything else about the bike (other than no option for a center stand).
