I was involved in dismantling a Compton theatre organ that had been installed by well meaning amateurs. Some of the supports left a lot to be desired. Seeing how professionals install an organ has been a fascinating experience. Thank you for posting.

This is really an outstanding presentation of the Kegg installation and the profoundly thoughtful work of Charles Kegg & Co. I am beyond impressed. And the time lapse video sections are fascinating.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this - and looking forward to Part 2. This is the best documented installation I've ever seen, and your commentary was very well done!

I am a traditionalist when it comes to church music, it's great to see a church maintaining the organ tradition. Also, for someone who is into listening, rather than the technical stuff, this is a brilliant, educational video.

The 16’ reed without the resonator would make a cool rank

That's how the kinura was invented. Someone was testing various resonators on a reed pipe, and decided to see what it would sound like with no resonator fitted.

it's always fun to replace a swell shade motor that is on the ceiling above all the pipe and out of reach!!!

What a marvellous video, and how exciting for the organist to see a new toy installed from the floor up.

As always, an excellent presentation! For a taste of the "other side" you should come follow a Taylor and Boody installation. Let us know if you're ever out east! Or in the Chicago area this summer...

Send an email to brent@organmedia.org. Maybe something can be worked out.

It is an exquisite building. It appears unfinished on the outside. For a Roman church, it isn’t one of those monstrosities that have become white elephants now. This church is doable, manageable, and actually posh looking……like a Christian Science Temple. Roman churches usually prefer an electric organ. This is a refreshing evolvement indeed.

Did the Archdiocese have much/ any involvement in decisions regarding the organ? Wonderful craftsmanship. I'm guessing the shop closed while all the employees are here for the install. Very smart design of organ case to match rail.

First of all, this is a great video. I really enjoyed watching it. But I do need some clarification for the swell shades that were already there from the wicks pipe, organ or were they already pre-installed by kegg

It appears in the video that a reed organ had been used by this church. How about telling us about that too please. I'm a reed organ restorer and I'd be very interested in that. This is a good video.

What pieces of music were used in this video? I was only able to recognize the Bruhns E Minor prelude, the Franck Chorale in E, and something else that sounded Baroque and familiar.
@deaganjones4666

The first piece was Toccata in G Major by Theodore Dubois. There was also Priere a Notre Dame by Leon Boellman and Kommst du nun, Jesu, vom himmel herunter by J. S. Bach BWV 650

@@deaganjones4666 I was really curious about that first piece, but I'm hoping Brent will weigh in.

Paper tubing for the wind? I immediately imagine silverfish, etc, feasting on that.
@OrganMediaFoundation
@OrganMediaFoundation 3 года назад
Paper tubing has been used for a very long time for extending wind to pipes that are not directly seated on a windchest. The tubing is not entirely paper, but has a foil lining. It's somewhat stiff while still being flexible and light.

@@James_Bowie The tubing is known as PAP flex “Paper-Aluminum-Paper” and was developed for use in air cooled automobile engines. My 1970 Volkswagen had PAP flex. It is heat resistant and so far in organs it has lasted for over 50 years.
