CoupleCarReview
This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2021 Lexus UX250h hybrid small premium SUV. The UX 250h has a 2L 4-cylinder engine paired with the Lexus Hybrid Drive and an ECVT, it has 181 horsepower and standard AWD. It gets 445 miles to every fill. It comes standard with LED headlights, 18” wheels, a power moonroof and power adjustable heated exterior mirrors. Our test model has the Black line special edition package available in Canada for $1,100 CAD. It comes with black metallic 18” wheels, black mirror caps, LED automatic high beam headlights and black painted roof rails. In the US, there are 3 trims but you can add packages and a la carte items to those trims. In Canada, there is one trim with 4 packages. The Black Line Special Edition, F Sport Series 1, $2,000 CAD, the Luxury package, $5,300 CAD and the F Sport 2 for $8,800. The Luxury and F Sport 2 packages come standard with a power lift-gate with kick sensor. This Hybrid gets great fuel economy, 5.7L/100km, 41 MPG city and 6.2L/100km, 38 MPG highway. The Lexus UX 250h is comfortable, fuel efficient and competitively priced.Typically, we get the top trim to drive but this UX 250h is missing the 10.3” display screen you get in the Luxury package for $5,300 CAD or the F Sport Series 2 package for $8,800. We have the standard 7” display screen, which is controlled with the trackpad at the centre console. Our test model comes with the Black Line Special Edition package for $1,100 CAD, some interior features include, blue accents and blue stitching throughout the cabin. The UX hybrid comes with an impressive amount of standard features like Apple Carplay and Android Auto, power windows with auto up/down, a heated leather wrapped steering wheel, Nuluxe heated and ventilated front seats, 8-way power adjustable driver and passenger seats plus a moonroof.The Luxury package offers some features you may be looking for like driver seat memory, a wireless charger, head-up display, memory mirrors, a power rear door with kick sensor, and a 10.3” display screen. It’s priced at $45,550 CAD with this package. JD Power gives the Lexus UX Hybrid an overall score of 77/100 and a quality and reliability score of 75/100. The Lexus Canada online calculator over 48 months shows the Lexus UX 250h will retain 49% of its value over 4 years.

My wife owns the UX 250h AWDe “luxury package” she loves it, we’re empty nesters. Here are a few facts about this vehicle. -the first gear on the CVT it’s an actual mechanical gear. - it is not an SUV, you can call it anything you want but this vehicle is a hatchback. - even tho this car is a hybrid it’s not a slow car. It can stay quite close behind a “fast”vehicle. -you can fold down the rear seats for extra cargo space and leave it that way since only 2 people are going to be riding in the car most of the time if not all of the time. -the rear electric motor helps to accelerate the vehicle from stand point. -it’s loaded with enough technology to keep you confused that many people are never going to use to it’s fullest. My wife being one of them.

I agree with you about it being a hatchback. I own a 2017 Mazda3 hatchback and the dimensions of this UX struck me as being very similar. I'm guessing the Mazda probably has more trunk space though.

The UX250 h hybrid power train uses an E - CVT transmission, this is the epicyclip cvt set up & it doesn't have a mechanical launch gear. The new NON hybrid Toyota CVT transmission is the one that has the mechanical launch gear.

I would disagree with their description of the cargo area. I went from an RX to a UX Hybrid, and even though the initial presentation of the cargo area seems tiny, there's a multi-level storage system underneath, along with intelligently laid out cubbies on either side. Plus, this is the only Lexus where the seats lay perfectly flat, and it's extremely easy to plop them down - even from the rear. I have been extremely pleased with the usability of the space.

I have watched other reviews of this suv, and all have said that it has a small trunk, but you have to realize that it is a small suv. If it was a large or mid size suv and it had a trunk space like the UX then you can say it is small. just my opinion, with a small suv you will get everything a bit smaller.

Great review as usual. I think the closet competition, when it comes to execution and size, is the Mazda CX-30. While Mazda's infotainment is aged, it doesn't feel as annoying as Lexus system. Its refreshing to see a press car which is a base model, reflecting what most people are going to get.

For those you say it is under power, u probably didn’t drive it. Lol. It is preppy and zippy. It has enough power. As for gas consumption, it actually gets better than reported. City is around 5.4 L per 100 km and highway can get to 5.2 L per 100 km. As gas price gets higher, hybrid will be better choice. Also for the touchpad, you can get used to it for sure.
@felixli5279
@felixli5279 2 года назад
Similar experience here re our UXh. We routinely got 5.0-5.3L/100km city during summer. The official 5.7L/100km city leans more towards our winter driving when snow tires are on and avg outside temp is -10 ~ -15c with the heater often at the high setting. IMHO, this is insane city fuel economy when every competitor in the same luxury subcompact segment is officially rated at nearly double the fuel burn of the UXh(Their power output is no where near double of the UXh though...). Though we find the highway consumption is consistently dead on at the official 6.2L/100km rating. I can attest this little crossover is specifically optimized for urban stop n go traffic where its hybrid system makes the biggest gain in fuel burn savings.

Hi Andrea and Zack. I have a question. Do you agree the push on EV cars? I have only UK data. Do you have Canada's data? If UK wants to reach 2050 goal to all EV cars, they need to produce just under two times the annual world COBALD production, nearly the entire world's production of NEODYMIUM, three-quarters of the world's LITHIUM productions, and at least half of the world's copper production. That's a hell of a lot of energy that's going to be required for batteries, that might last more than a decade. And that is just one country. Where the rest of the country will get those materials? The cost to recycle a LITHIUM batteries three times the cost of the battery it self. Should the auto industry invest more to the HYDROGINE cars? I am not an environmental activist, I just asking these questions, it seems to me will be a hell of the impact on our children environment. Thank you. Frank.

Thanks for the review. I agree it's a quarky looking suv. I have been driving Lexus for last 18yrs, different models, loved them all but Lexus needs to get away from that sharp edge lines, pointy lights and come back to smooth finish looking vehicle i.e Q5, GV80, etc.

Hi Andrea - nice review; with you on that trackpad (like everyone else), but NEVER going to buy any beautiful, tech-rich Audi vs any Lexus. Why are used Audi's rather inexpensive - they're maintenance hogs.

I thought I hated the touchpad and wanted a touch screen, but then I changed my mind cuz I dont have to inch forward to use the touchscreen. It takes time to get used to tho.

Andrea is 100% right re: Lexus interior. “It works” can’t be a valid argument; pay phones work, too.

Zack -- sometimes bigger IS better. I don't see you being happy with a 15" monitor in your office or a 32" TV in your living room.

Agree with Zach, it's ugly, but disagree with Zach, the grille is not good.

I wish every car had the option to order without power lift gate, they are useless.

Sure get an Audi, all the tech toys and all the maintenance costs that come with it. Reliability over performance, get a Lexus.

Why doesn’t the Lexus light up blue when it’s hybrid ? Do you have to pay extra for that ?? I hate the mouse pad ! So not functional …

Nope, according to Toyota HQ back in the 80s when their luxury division was in planning stage, LEXUS brandname stands for Luxury EXport for the US.

Run flat tires.... The Automotive world indication that they built the car so small you cannot fit a spare tire in it. Unless you live in Vancouver run flat tires are a disaster in the prairies and eastern Canada. They are so noisy and rock hard they almost knock your teeth out. All three sets were gone of my Mini Coopers at 20,000 KM they don't last and at $100-150 extra a tire they are not worth it. I carry a Tire plug kit and a compressor in all three cars!!!! Most tire shops will tell you if you have to replace a run flat it's a special order. So you end up stuck in the middle of nowhere waiting for a tire to be shipped to the shop.

That's like saying a Porsche is just a VW with a different badge which is technically true re the Cayenne vs Touareg.
