I think the GTI is unfair has the Mazda sits between the R and the GTI. The A3 has the same engine as the GTI so also inferior. Hard to compare it to anything really, but give them time they will be giving the R a run

@@Skwisgaarz666 truthfully the only company that still does conventional torque converter transmission out of the bunch is Mazda. They know it works and they stick to it. Meanwhile all the other brands trying to invent a new design with CVT and AMT that obviously once it failed it would be too costly to repair one without a warranty, so for that reason alone, the only trusted Japanese brands with decent craftsmanship and design would be Mazda and Lexus. Mazda has been a clear winner in brand engagement in Canada and now picking up sales in the USA.

I don't know why people are so big on VW you're exactly right the price to fix that shit is insane. & on top of that they're not that reliable. IMO. I have the Accord 2.0t... I was thinking about getting the Kia K5 GT but I decided to go with Honda because I know they're reliable, little slower than the K5 factory but I tuned my Accord now I'm just looking for a K5 on the streets & see what happens haha. And I don't want to sound like a total hater I do like the way Volkswagens look and they drive really good but so do Hondas 👍👍🚗💨🔥💯%🇺🇸

The W8 engines in passats. The 2.7t in allroads. Oil leaks. Transmission troubles. Early dsg issues. Complicated and expensive front end repairs. Squeaks and rattles. Lol. My head is out of my ass and I'm over the "soul" of the average German car. The only one I'd consider is a 911 since it is actually reliable, save for the ims issues.

Doesn't make much sense the golf R is Awd and so was the Mazda however the Mazda claims a much higher horsepower and is half a liter bigger in displacement it would be sad to see it race an even lower horsepower version with 2wd

Gti will definitely win from a roll, and maybe from a dig if it’s on some decent performance tires.

We knew the mazda would loose but it was a fun day. But in some ways this also proved that MAZDA needs a mazda speed or some GT version of the 3

A new speed 3 would cost the small company a fortune in development costs and few would buy. There will be no speed 3. If it were a profitable idea they would have never discontinued the old speed 3 in the first place.

Why is it out of it’s class? Both awd, both hatchbacks, both automatic trans, both turbo engines, Mazda makes 30bhp less! That’s it

Yea for sure. I have a 2015 Mazda 3 with a manual, did intake and exhaust and she is quickkk. I've had loaber Mazda 3s from the dealer and even in 2.5 like mine they are way slower feeling. The few horsepower gained is very noticeable, especially on the top end

@@SamCarLegion a very VERY GOOD tune. But EA888 has one of the greatest engine for turing its very easy have a Golf R with 450HP and more that 550 of torque. I think that Mazda could be best in other thinks but in raw performance never.

DSG is truly godlike (in terms of reliability). It is better to get rid of such a car as soon as the car warranty ends.

@@rogerbarrett9920 are you sure you need to spent 7000 to fix the DSG? This is "wet clutch" and even if you feel the clutch slipping the cost of clutch replacement is less than 1000 USD. Gearbox itself is as robust as manual, way more reliable than automatic except the clutch pack. Fyi, the clutch pack is designed to last 240 thousand kilometers. There are people who been travel more than 300 thousand kilometers without the need of clutch pack replacement. The one that not long lasting dual clutch is using "dry" clutch which often use for model less than 250nm. Don't buy anyone which using dry clutch, the headache never end.

@@fachman that hasn't really been a mazda problem for quite some time. Granted the new mazdas could have some weird issues like the hondas that were recalled of course. My 2012 mazda 3 2.5 has been through 8 winters and hasn't rusted at all minus some exhaust piping and bolts underneath the car. My old protege 5 and nb miata were a different story though...protege 5 rusted so horribly.

Mazda will most likely not do that in any near future. I spoke with a salesman in my region (Europe) and he said that shift to luxury is making them a ton more money.

Update: I test drove both for about an hour. The Mazda has a nicer interior for sure, and the AWD came in handy on some backroads w/ low wet spots, but it's just relatively boring to drive. The GTI is much more raw, the steering is more precise with that LSD (not referring to acid), and coming from a shitty '09 Nissan Altima, I really don't mind that it's a little less luxurious and stiff. It's miles better then my current whip. The GTI is more fun, hands down. The Mazda is more luxurious, hands down. That's kinda the decision... Then there's the wild card of whether or not AWD is important to you. I'm getting a GTI. #stancenation (or whatever they say) Thanks to the 1 person that read this.

@@mezzb Sounds like the right choice for your climate! I moved from Massachusetts to Texas recently. If I was still up there, I think I'd lean towards the Mazda for that exact reason.

The turbo engine in the mazda has zero top end pull. You're better off shifting at 5k than anything higher. You get the most pull in the 3-4k range in the mazda.

My GTI was more reliable than my Mazda 3. Both great though

@@Alexandru-T. well for one European spec Golfs get port and GDI injectors added to there engines which eliminates carbon buildup. US Golfs are GDI only and combined with turbos they gunk up pretty fast, the DSGs have been problematic too especially the 7 speed dry DSG.
