great example of beauty is in the eye of the beholder. i find the giant 23” wheels horrendous. one could pick so many other designs that will make this beast even more imposing. and @$5K+ i’d confidently pass. anyone else? the noise in the cabin was great. thanks for sharing motoman!

I beg to differ.. some friends aren’t really friends. You can lose them and the relationship ends for good. You can lose money today, and make it back in a short space of time. But to some extent, yes I still agree with you, the true friends are worth more than money.

Brian is a class act. You both make a great team and he sheds less than Kumo. Keep up the great work! I really like what MB is doing with their vehicles and these 48V electrical systems. I wish more manufacturers would get onboard with this technology. Your wishlist for a plugin hybrid would make this vehicle other worldly.

Part of me loves the engineering. You can just see how incredible this drives in the twisties. But part of me despises that obscenely low MPG. I wonder if e-tron could have been this fun with active sway bars and other tech.

I thought that one of the most trick options on the GLS/GLEs with 48V is the e-active control that erases speed bumps and allows the vehicle to "hop." Does Mercedes still offer that?

Yes, on the non AMG versions (actually in the US, now just the GLS580). The AMGs get the ARC+.

The car is so huge - the wheels work perfectly with it 23" really wow - this looks like a car straight from the Tuner shop for a music video. I only knew this mono block wheels polished from Maybach - they really work. It looks like a truck, it has the size of a truck and it weighs like a truck - but - it moves like a sports sedan. Since we all will have to drive EV´s in the future - why not use a 2 t EV skateboard with bonkers power EV motors (4 of them) lets say 1000hp+, and a 1ton battery down there - with 200 kWh - go crazy Mercedes! Wishlist: How fast would it go? How far would it go? What company inside Mercedes would be better suited to try this out then AMG... To George - great that you have such friends like Brian, that reflects over Brian - but also about you having this kind of friends!

Motoman, GLS63AMG v. Alpina XB7? Also factor in that MB has had well documented issues with the 48V system. So much so that they have had to issue ‘stop sales’ on many of their autos with this system.

The wheels are reminiscent of older style AMG rims, only this time they don't look that good to me. HP is closer to 650 or more on a dyno?? Like usual....

Thanks for the feedback . . . it's the lighting. One of the planes is out for annual so we have a bit more room to try some new set ups. That great, but also very hard to throw enough light in that large open space. Monday's episode is a different set up so would love to hear your thoughts on it. Bear with us as we continue to experiment.

Which would you buy if it was your money, the XB7 or the GLS 63? This would be very helpful information for those of us trying to make the decision without the ability to conduct a thorough test drive.

What would I buy? An E63s Wagon. What would I choose between the two? Tough call because as discussed in the episode, the GLS 63 is sharper because of the faster suspension. The advantage of the XB7 is its rarity. That is the decision for anyone looking between the two.

I went AMG between the 2. I had an X7 M50i (XB7 wasn’t available) and wanted to see the best between the 2. So far it’s AMG as the winner. Just my thoughts on why: 1. MBUX is just better than Idrive. The software is painfully difficult for no reason. 2. I think the comfort of the AMG is just a hair better, ride wise. Comfort to comfort mode. 3. Back seat leg room is much better in the AMG, if you care about your passengers. 4. AMG sounds better. 5. I think the front end looks better while the X7 side and back is slightly better. The PA grill on the AMG is gorgeous. Hope this helps.

@@jaredboswell5139 I had a 2018 GLS63 and grew extremely fatigued with needing brakes every 9K and they ran me $2400. I told my service advisor that I basically needed brakes more often than my oil changed. Has it gotten any better or needed less often? Insanely, another one is on my shortlist.

I assume the torque converted instead of the multiclutch is for towing. At least that's the reason I've been told the Cayenne gets the Tiptronic instead of PDK. Also, one correction for the options game: The $250 upgraded interior isn't just the stitching. You get a slightly nicer leather, with the full quilting and the stitching. The base leather is also nappa, but has worse stitching, and no quilting.

23" wheels on a SUV? No thank you, even though the wagon wheels look great. I'm spending $150k+, I don't want to feel every bump in the road that 23" wheels supply. Also, carving canyon roads is a California thing. Here on the East Coast, luxury vehicles are meant to be quiet [internally and externally], comfortable and stable. If I want to carve canyons, gimme a BMW M4 Competition. I'm thinking the Alpina is the way to go here.

@@allyoop7138 but they look terrible, is the only issue. The multi spoke Alpina wheel and the AMG multi spoke are gorgeous. It’s a small difference in the 22 and 23. I have both.

@@jaredboswell5139 I agree with your comment on the fugliness of the 22" wheels. Alpina wheels are the best looking around (IMO), but on a SUV, comfort is king. I wish Alpina offered their wheels in a 22" model too.

Sad Europe gets rear entertainment screens in back seats and the US doesnt. Thats a Tragedy for such an expensive truck! The escalade is 20-40k less and has more entertainment. Fail by AMG

I actually found myself in this situation. I went with the GLS because I love the room it has. I actually use it. I’ve had the cayenne turbo before and loved it.

@@jaredboswell5139 it is a great SUV. My personal issue is this. A large luxury SUV like cayenne provides good practicality with amazing performance. A Navigator, Escalade, provides amazing practicality with good performance (top trims).The GLS provided really good practicality with really good performance. The reason I mention these factors is this. In my mind if I'm going to buy/lease a vehicle around this price range I would look for a priority to have either class leading performance or class leading practicality. With a willingness to sacrifice a little the secondary priority. If im spending 100k ish, somthing about the SUV better knock my socks off every time I get in it. Again this is by no means an Indictment the GLS. Tell me what you think of this?

@@AustinF516 I would say we have to correctly categorize these vehicles. The Cayenne is a midsize SUV so I don’t really think it can be in competition with these. The navigator and Escalade are built on truck frames so they do not have the same suspension type as the BMW X7 and the GLS. So really in reality the only competition for these two is the BMW X7 and the GLS. But let’s throw the navigator, Escalade, BMW X7, and GLS in one category. The Escalade and the navigator both do not at their top trims have even close to the power of either the BMW X7 or GLS. I would also argue that they do not possess the handling capabilities either. So really it comes down to a slightly bigger cabin over an insanely distant amount of performance. The reason I chose both the BMW X7 and the GLS over those two is because the performance is so much better and the distance in capacity is not that huge.
