Absolutely, on Gold Derby there wasn't a single person who was predicting him for Best Supporting Actor, and even in the Best Actor race, only 109 people were predicting him. Major shocker! I'm thrilled he has a nomination to his name though!

There's only 3 Shockers: 1. Lakeith getting nominated (in a good way); overlooked the Judas factor of him in that movie, overwhelmingly eclipsed by Daniel's performance 2. Another Round for Best Director 3. Ma' Rainey's Black Bottom's failure to land a Best Picture Nomination

Remember the Academy can nominate in whichever category it prefers. That why Kate Winslet correctly won Lead Actress for The Reader. I think they just thought if Daniel wasn't going to be lead then neither of them were.

I had a feeling a stop-motion animated film would get in, as one usually does. However, I thought it would be The Willoughbys, since it was a huge hit for Netflix. Never underestimate Aardman Studios.

Shocked how Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and One Night in Miami missed Best Picture. Judas and the Black Messiah, Sound of Metal and The Father all got in when there was only 8 nominees. WOW!

My shockers: 1. Lakeith 2. no Tenet in score, cinematography 3. no Miami in best picture 4. Vinterburg for director (I thought the academy would just give that spot to Sorkin but glad they didn't!) 5. no Fincher for screenplay

VInterberg in Best Director was such a great surprise but the highlight for me was definitely LaKeith in Supporting Actor. One of my favourite performances of the year, by far!

To be fair, the late Jack Fincher did rely on Pauline Kael’s much-criticized theory about _Citizen Kane’s_ screenwriting credits. Still kinda sad his son David couldn’t bring him along with an Oscar nom, though.

Takeaways: The Oscar sucks at picking Documentaries: RIP Boys State, Dick Johnson is Dead, and Welcome to Chechnya. They may join Apollo 11 and Won't You Be My Neighbor? in Snub Heaven. Very happy with the Minari love Loved the Another Round director nom. Annoyed it didn't get picture after leaving 2 spots open Speaking of those two open spots, I am glad it was One Night in Miami and Ma Rainey that got snubbed. No hate to those films, but better them than The Father or Sound of Metal. I was wrong about Mank getting snubbed lol. 10 nominations! Poor Delroy, but yay Lakeith! This is easy this year. The biggest surprises were lakeith stanfield getting a supporting nod and vinterberg getting a directing nod. Neither of them had been even hardly mentioned in the oscar buzz. Good for both of them. Now let's see if there are any actual surprises at the ceremony. I don't think so. Nomadland wins Best Picture. Chloe Zhao wins best director. Chadwick wins best actor. And either Carey Mulligan or Frances Mcdormand wins actress. We shall see...

I don’t understand the Academy’s rules when it comes to International Film. Technically it should have been eligible in 2019 nominations (with Parasite) but I’m not gonna dwell on it too much because Better Days a fantastic movie !

With her eighth nomination, Glenn Close becomes the fourth actress with most Academy Award nominations after Meryl Streep (21 nominations); Katherine Hepburn (12 nominations) and Bette Davis (10 nominations). My biggest shock was LaKeith Stanfield as Best Supporting Actor since he has no business in that category. He was CLEARLY LEAD actor. I hate it when they put lead performances in the supporting category, but this is the most egregious offense ever in that realm!

@@VicenteTorresAliasVits Honestly everyone lol. I found Delroy Lindos's performance to be the best performance of the year. I'm happy for Lakeith, but he is a lead actor in Judas, not a supporting actor. Even Daniel is a lead if you want to look at it closely. I think it's a great group of nominees, but Delroy Lindos was sensational.

I cannot tell you how happy I am about Lakeith Stanfield. He is one of my favorite actors working right now, and I was so disappointed when his Oscar campaign wasn't taking off the way I hoped. As good as Kaluuya is, I thought Stanfield walked away with that film. It's a shame that he's in supporting, when that character is obviously the lead, but I'm just so happy to see him recognized. He is such an incredible actor.

I didn't really believed it myself but I had thought of the idea that Thomas Vinterberg could get a best director spot, since we also saw this suprise with Pawel Pawlikowski for Cold War two years ago and since Another Round got so much love at the BAFTA nominations, but I never believed that Vinterberg would actually get that nom. I'm a happy Dane right now:)

I can’t believe Tenet didn’t get score. Those backward/forward sounding themes were so innovative and unique. I wonder if they were just a little too “out there”, or if the movie itself was overshadowing the score.

Green Book didn't get a Best Director nomination but still won Best Picture. So it doesn't mean shit.

I was also glad to see paul Raci get a supporting actor nom. Would have loved to have seen alan kim also. At least Jered Leto didn't get in for that terrible movie. That makes me happy.

I would've loved to see Mark Rylance get in for The Trial Of The Chicago 7. I thought he deserved the spot more than Sacha Baron Cohen.

Pleasantly surprised to see Lakeith Standfield get in. Also love the cinematography nom for judas, vfx nom for love & monsters and the production design nom for the father I wasn't expecting those I'm also glad that the academy made interesting choices like Judas and the black messiah, sound of metal and the father for best picture over safe ones like ma rainey and one night in miami Mank deserved screenplay/editing over promising young woman
