That's great, James! You've got some of the best worship tone around. I also respect that even though you've made the switch from Iridium to Stomp, you still talk highly of the Iridium. I think sometimes in the P&W community we tend to have the "grass is greener" mentality so it's refreshing to see you respect both units even when you prefer one to the other.
Man thanks so much! Means a ton. I’ve definitely gone gear crazy in the past, so it’s cool to be in a place now where I can just use what works best for me. Everyone is gonna be a little different with all of that, so it’s less of a “what’s the absolute best thing out there” and more of a “just use what you wanna used thing. Iridium is great, but the Stomp has a much better workflow for me and I feel that the tone is just as good!
I run my Benson preamp into my hx stomp and even with both of those boxes sounding great I actually use the little cab simulator switch on my Big Sky..... literally polishes everything off, it just makes everything so perfect and warm..... for me at least.
Hey james, I have kilt v1 and wampler tumnus and was thinking of buying Superbolt v2. Should I put SB before kilt or after? I would use it as low gain setting.
Love your tones and playing James. I would always know it's you. Brilliant way to be. (I was going to say super cool! 😎) Just a thought from an Audio Engineer in a previous life... If you are still running this board, swap the position of the Big Sky and the Stomp. Everyone should hear the Stomp through headphones even if it's only while using HX Edit. This would give you access to the phones output on the left of the Stomp. Also, try put your stereo FX through the send/return of the Stomp. This way you can move all your stereo pedals wherever you want in the chain. Loads more options and space available using this method. It does take a block for the send & return but you should give it a go as it's definitely worth it. The FX Loop can also be assigned to a footswitch so Juliana, Timeline & Big Sky can be muted with one click!. Keep the tone vids coming!

Hey Mato! I wouldn’t use the word “better” or “worse”. The workflows of both units are completely different, with the Stomp being much more flexible. The stomp takes a little tweaking, but the patches I’m using sound incredible to my ear and provide extra useful features too. The iridium sounds good, but there were a few things that I didn’t enjoy with it. The switch to the stomp has been great!

I'm currently running bigsky/timeline after hx stomp. Sounds great to my ears but wondering if it is better to run before stomp? Signal Chain: In -> GoodWood Interfacer -> Barber Tone Press Compressor -> HX Stomp (Bondi Effects Sick As FX Loop 1 & JHS Kilt FX Loop 2 both in front of amps) -> Stereo Timeline -> Stereo Bigsky -> Stero GoodWood Interfacer
I like to run everything in front as if it were real amps. Running stereo effects after can sometimes sound cleaner/crisper, but I like how it sounds in front!
I have a question friend, in 2020 you used the RC booster before the compressor, and in this new version you use it after the compressor, what was the reason?
Honestly no real reason! Just how I happened to set it up. I’d probably go into comp first still, but even that comes down to preference and not necessarily a tone advantage.
@@jamesransom7711 I think that putting the compressor at the beginning cuts the bass a lot, it seems to me that your clean sound of 2020 has more body. I'm not an expert, but my ears work.
@@johannmunoz_gtr they’re completely different setups, Iridium as the amp vs. the stomp as the amp. That patch on the stomp cuts a good amount of low end. The order of the RC and the comp isn’t going to affect anything.
Amazing board! Quick question, how do you approach or what setting do you use on your amps for your gretsch duo jet? I have the same guitar and sometimes have difficulty on getting a great tone. Thank you.

Question as someone who is finally upgrading to a dream board with higher pulling pedals power wise. What is the best signal chain for guitar pedals? I am running a Strymon Sunset OD, JHS Lucky Cat, HoF Reverb, and a Zoom MS-50G for amp/cabinet modeling. Im wanting to add a keeley verbotrem, mxr dynacomp, and a booster at some point as well, but Im not experienced on the best way to run a signal chain to keep my tone from dying down in the chain.
Hey man! I would get an isolated power supply first, and wouldn’t recommend daisy chaining all those effects. As far as order, I’d go Comp, sunset, boost, delay, verb, amp. That’ll give you a solid place to start!
Awesome DH Amps demo! I have his patches too. Just curious, do you adjust his EQ settings at all for your Gretsch or are you just using his stock EQ? Thanks

Thanks man! I think the Superbolt is a little more interesting as a circuit. The morning glory is a blues breaker style drive and they sound amazing with a Stratocaster into a fender amp, but I find it just a smidge uninteresting in my rig! Still obviously a huge fan favorite though!

Great walkthrough my friend, brilliant tones! Interested to know, are you using your interfacer with the buffer on? You seem to keep the tone pretty much the same when everything is switched off. Tone suck is a real problem I have with my board, I have to add a bit more compression to keep the tone rounded instead of already having my tone before I switch on the compressor. How do you combat tone suck with the number of pedals you have?
Thanks Lewis! I really don’t like tone suck and have learned a few tips and tricks over the years. I do run through the buffered input on the interfacer and that helps things from the start. The two strymons have optional buffers and I keep them on just as a double check to make sure everything is flowing nicely. I’d recommend just putting a simple buffer in your rig to start! Make sure your cables are letting all the high end through as well.
Dope tone bro! 🤘🏼in your signal chain, what’s after your kilt v2? Please correct me if I’m wrong but I heard your volume pedal goes into the vertex boost and out of the boost into the audition.. so I was wondering what goes in out of the kilt.
Thanks Edgar! Might’ve explained it poorly but the out of the Kilt goes into the input of the boost, and the out of the boost goes to the in of the audition. The trs cable from the volume goes into a separate 1/8” trs jack on the boost

Hey James, nice walkthrough and tones! I usually play mono through my amp, but I've been wanting to go direct the with DH patch. If stereo wasn't an option, would you sum to mono or play through one amp? I'd hate to choose one because I love the mix of the two together!
Incredible sounds man. This is kind of an abstract question, but what's your process for dialing in delay and reverb? I'm thinking of your general clean sound at 4:30 - how do you decide how high of a mix to use or how long of trails to use? Do you use a lot of pre-delay? Do you want your delays stronger than your reverb or vice versa? Would love to hear any thoughts!
Thanks so much Parker! Not an abstract question at all! I just go for what feels right. If a part needs to get out the way quicker, probably not gonna make the tails really long for the reverb. Brightness is how lively I want it to be (darker for smooth, brighter for some energy). Pre-delay depends on the song, but it’s usually between 9 and 12 o’clock. Delays for me are definitely usually pretty strong since they help define the parts, but I run the filter down a little so that only a couple hits are audible when everything else is going. I’ve actually started running a little less verb lately depending on the sound/feel. Just a lot of experimenting basically!

I’ve talked about it a lot in previous videos but the workflow of the stomp just works better for me. The patches I’m running have wonderful tone and allows so much more flexibility with how I run my entire rig. Iridium is still cool though!
@jamesransom7711 I tried both Edward's and Hislops, for some reason Hislops sounds very quiet with a lot of lows, and kinda boxy. Do you know what problem might be?
@@oleksandrk4853 you need to replace the original amp+cab blocks with just amp blocks with IRs after them. Copy or save the amp settings. Otherwise you’re basically using a stock cab and then putting an IR behind it.
@@oleksandrk4853 no. The Edwards patch comes with combined amps+cab blocks if I remember correctly. You need to replace those with amp blocks only, and then put the Hislop IRs behind them.
