To be fair, the Greer Lightspeed is a pretty well liked overdrive outside of church circles. Drew from Switchfoot used one for a good bit before Jackson Audio made him a signature drive. Rabea Massad and Pete Honore also both really like it. There's a ton of secular guitarists that play boutique stuff.
Dude seriously, probably the best pedalboard rundown I’ve seen in a looong time. THE BEST TONE. Gotta look into the barber tone press. Sounded amazing. What kind of pickups are in the portlander?
Henning Pauly (EytschPi42) likes 'em a lot too, and he's a hard-rock/metal-type guy. But he's also an insane person, so... In all seriousness, Strymon products are *really* good, as long as you don't mind digital effects, and an empty wallet.
Prasanth Selvadurai I personally think so, especially for different price points. But it’s all about tone and how the pedals feel to you so I can’t speak for everyone 😄
@@0megalul309 boss pedals are just fine. People used boards of nothing but boss pedals from the 80s until the boutique boom. The best thing is if something breaks you can walk into almost any music shop in a pinch and replace it. Too each their own though. I like boss pedals and a slightly less empty wallet 😆
Holy tone!!!!!!! Thank you for this. Tone is perfect. However behind this is an incredible guitar playing. Could you do a video on your playing? Like how you approach/think about guitar when your playing live. Or what type of things you practice? Saw you play live in San Antonio with bethel and you were the only guitar player and your playing was so good, soooooo good so was your tone. But tone is nothing without a skilled artist behind it. Thank you!!!
Oh my goodness this is incredible. I’m a huge gear nerd and this makes me really happy. At the same time it’s overwhelming because I’m literally just now getting into pedals 🤭
Hey!! Blessings, I´m form Ecuador. Excelent sound! You are a genius at this! I want to ask about the noise, I power my pedals with Zuma, I have some Strymon pedals, JHS, etc. but I can't get rid of an annoying noise, any advice? My guitar is a Stratocaster
Hello, the noise problem could be a few things together. 1.) Your pickups are single coils so theres pickup noise & hum 2.) Compressor pedals add noise to your signal 3.) Poorly/cheaply made guitar cable or patch cables dont shield and block radio frequencies 4.) If your amp gain and volume gain are really high then there is going to be added noise even if youre on a modeller 5.) Take off some of the high and low frequencies but not too much to where theres no punch or clarity, interference is also in the highs so that should help. 6.) Use a quality di box and add buffers to the beginning and end of your signal I've found those help a ton 7.) And finally always use grounded power & make sure the metal parts of your patch cables arent touching if they're cheap ones & if a patch cable is dying then they can buzz and crackle. Hope this can help you with your board and future problems God bless! 🤙
Sounds great man, good stuff, what's most impressive is your humble delivery, I think your inviting personality will connect & inspire people as much as the gear/tone, and that's what we should be doing for our brothers and sisters. Great Job, and I'll be on the look out for HX Stomp presets...I've recently pulled most of my strymon stuff off and I'm using the stomp with my analog drives & comp... I really like the simplicity of the snap shot mode for a set list, no real need for midi anymore, 12x24 board Rock-n-Roll, lol
Hey man, I was hoping you'd be able to share the DMC settings! I've been menu diving on it trying to figure out the way you have it switching the strymons and what not!
BEST PEDALBOARD RUNDOWN I HAVE SEEN! Thanks for this and all the detail. I have your presets and kemper profiles and they are INSANE! The AC30 and Prosonic in stereo are an amazing combo. Thanks for what you do David!
Thanks for the cool video man! Quick question about your guitar volume knob - noticed you were swelling with the knob instead of the VP. When you play, are you basically keeping your guitar volume knob at 10? I usually play with it at 7 but know other guitarists dime it and dial in their tone that way. Thanks and God bless!
Hey David Hislop, I have a question if you’ve got a minute or three haha. I’m worried that sometimes I disappear from the mix. People in the congregation say that they can hear me during the choruses/loud parts but that they can’t hear me when it’s a lower dynamic like a bridge or a verse or if I’m doing ambient stuff. We don’t have a lot of instruments necessarily, it’s usually just me on electric, bass, drums and keyboard so I don’t think that I should ever disappear unless I’m just not playing. That makes me question wether I have my gain staging/overdrive staging set up correctly. Currently I have it so when I kick on my overdrives for choruses and that bigger sound it gets louder, and I’m assuming that the sound guy mixes me in at this level, so when I don’t have those on I drop out because I’m not loud enough/don’t have enough gain, hypothetically speaking anyway. Should I not have my drives give me more volume? Should I decrease the volume I get from my drives so everything is the same volume wise?
Hi James! I'm not David Hislop but I might be able to help. I apologize if I have wrong grammars in this comment. English is not my native language 😅. I was an electric guitar player at my church and became a sound guy when our former sound guy went to another country. I'm not the best sound guy but I learned a lot from watching videos on youtube and also by practicing on virtual soundchecks. The thing is, your volume might not be the problem. Being loud doesn't mean you will cut through the mix . So here are some of my thoughts that might solve your problem: 1.) Difference in tone between your non-overdriven and overdriven sound. It might be that your guitar's mid frequencies disappears when you do not engage your overdrive. An electric guitar is usually heard in the midrange frequency. 2. You might be playing in the same range as the other instruments. Your instrument's sound is easily buried in the mix if your playing in the same range as the others i.e. keys. 3. You're electric guitar's sound is not mixed right in the front-of-house or your band's overall sound is not mixed right at all - If every instrument in your band is not EQd correctly, it will muddy-up your mix therefore losing clarity on your overall mix. I hope this helps. God bless you! 😊
What are your amp settings for the prosonic and vox? I have a blues Jr and Vox ac10c1 with greenbacks and just would like help in getting to that edge of breakup. Playing a portlander with lollar el rayos as well. If you could share, thank you!
I'll have to do a video on this - In my experience with 6TB's (and I've played ALOT of them, and own two), the same settings don't sound 100% identical in every amp. Trust your ears. I'll expound more later :)
Just now realizing you went out of the JHS Emperor with TRS. Fine. I've done that with mine also. BUT the vibrato setting was unusable for me with the TRS cable. It cut the signal very strangely :/ Have you got any idea how to fix that? The chorus mode was heavenly tho in stereo.
David Hislop I’m using the keeley caverns and a strymon el capistan . I want a good volume pedal to add to my board. Is your volume pedal reliable? I’ve never seen one like it. Btw those strymon presets are great. We play king of my heart Sunday and I am definitely using that patch.
I read all your comments and no love for Plasma and Particle! Love it when the P&W board is unique and experimental - I subbed your channel for it. I have the particle also for ambient sounds - interesting enough yet not hard to dial in, and has presets, tap tempo.
you're the man david! your tone is prolly what's been inspiring me to be more creative with my tone. but what happened to your superbolt? and how did you use it back when you had it?
When I had it I used it like an “always on” drive to shape my tone and EQ slightly, ran it pretty clean. Now I just run my compressor with no “always on” drive.
Thank you for using your hands to change patches instead of your foot with no socks or shoes on. The nastiest videos are the ones when patches are switched with gross bare feet. LOL
Thanks for sharing! I’ve been using a prosonic for about 8 years now, as my main amp. Absolutely love it. Glad to see that more people appreciate it the great tone it puts out. 😎👍
hi David! Great video for those who follow you! I am among them! i have some questions! 1. Do you like the amt expression pedal? does it have enough fluctuation range? why not dunlop mini? 2.would you be able to make a video or graphic of preset pog 2? I understand that it is not difficult to repeat yourself but you want accuracy in it! 3.I didn't understand if you were using a preamp. why don't you use stereo preamp for example in the left ear fender prosonic and in the right vox? thank you! you are a wonderful person! praise the Lord Jesus Christ! you are an example of how to do it professionally!sorry for the google translate
The best and most informative 44 minutes I’ve ever spent, watching a video. I definitely have a long way to go, but this is definitely a great start! Thanks so much for sharing!
Such a stellar video! The tone, the way you explained everything so thoroughly, its all incredible! I haven't been this excited about a gear rundown in a while. Thanks for sharing bro! I'm feeling super inspired to go practice... and maybe go buy a kilt as well! haha
I came back to this video 4 years later and saw that I commented. Just an update, I DID buy a V1 Kilt. Best impulse buy of my life haha! Still such an incredible rig rundown... but we need an update!
I used to hate the kilt pedal, now it’s like “I’m going to take out all the drives on my board and just use the kilt”😰😂🔥this video is awesome 🤘🎛thanks for the video because bethel is all I listen too ❤️so basically I listen to you sound of playing 100% of my day !!!🤘🎛🎚
Looking for that volume pedal but I can’t find it on Amazon. Google isn’t bringing up any quick searches of it. Maybe I’m not typing in the right thing but what would be the closest thing to that volume pedal if I’m unable to find one?
I just added a DMC-4 Gen2 to my pedalboard. I couldn’t find a “Bank Mode” though. Did they remove that mode with the firmware update? I would rather have control of the banks like you are here instead of the preset mode. I build all my setlists out in Nixie. Much faster to setup.
Too many of cash money 's , spending on lead guitars pedals ....in cost , counting....total.......can be over ......can be zero ......I see....times .well spend.moneys , cost save ? Or waste .....I see.think twice before, or .....just for it .good. Best....of the best .in guitars
Hello? I have a question. Are Strymon Delays and Riverb activating and using Killdry? Are you using a space system with separate dry and wet sounds? I hope you answer me. I'm very worried about this problem. Bless you.
I have a large temple audio board. I’m looking to add a volume pedal to my board. I was noticing your volume pedal and I don’t believe I’ve ever seen one of those. Is it reliable? I have heard that the Ernie ball vp can break or wear out easily. Does your vp have a cable or is it electro optical?
the pedal he's using is a Hilton Pro Volume Pedal. he said it worked through some infrared mechanism so that there's no wearable parts such as strings etc.. i dont know how it works you'll just have to wait for him to respond.
xSynchr0 right. I watched it again and realized I missed that. I looked and found a Morley volume that uses the same technology so that’s what I’m gonna go with. Morley 20/20 volume wah combo. Seems pretty nice
That pedal board looks like a nightmare compared to any modern modeller ! No scribble strips ! So many areas for noise and faults ! If you have a problem on stage your knackered !! And it’s massive and heavy !! Mental you can tour with that reliably !
David Hislop thanks for the reply. Not sure if we get Dual Lock in South Africa but I will check it out. I need to move my Zuma to the bottom of my Trailer Trash board and add an Ojai so was wondering how.
Such a wast on every pedal, always using just one sound.. 2 delays, two versions of the same pedal, 2 pitch pedal, one pedal that does the same thing of the other..
